The NFL slapped Cowboys CB Alan Ball with a $5,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Chiefs wide receiver Bobby Wade.

Ball told reporters in Irving today that he will appeal the fine.

I know I'm in the minority, but I thought the officials made the correct call. Ball's helmet hit Wade's facemask, which, of course, is part of the helmet. Following the letter of the law, it was the correct call.

Now, do I think it was a ticky-tack penalty? Of course. But again, following the letter of the law, it was the correct call.

The letter of the law is trying to pocket every penny they can get.... What a surprise.

It was a justified penatly, and the fine is appropriate. Ball took a hard shot and led with his helmet for added impact. The replay shos it was premeditated based on his body movement. IT WAS STUPID because we had the third-down stop, but his STUPIDITY gave KC the ball back (not to mention, threatened possible, nedless injury to the opponent).

And the Cowboys' response to the infraction was IDIOTIC also, because they chose to complain about it and suggest it was a tic-tacky call. That's what's wrong with this staff; the right move would have been to call-out the player for this MENTALLY STUPID error. NO NEED TO LEAD WITH THE HELMET AND DRAW A NEEDLESS PENALTY! But no, not this staff; if someone does something STUPID, let's defend it at all costs.

I watched that replay at least 7 times, and it sure seemed like it was shoulder to shoulder IMO.

It's a horrible rule. The contact made to the helmet was minimal. The NFL is slowly changing what made the game great. It's a dangerous game, but they are also fairly compensated for that. If they want a safer job they are free to get one.

Leading with the helmet is was the KC player did to ROMO, yet no call, and he hit Romo directly in the facemask.

No, it's someone who actually watched the game. He led with the shoulder. It was pretty obvious.

I don't think he did.

And I don't know if the helmet ever made contact with the facemask. Buck and Aikman pulled out the old "well his head snapped back so it must have hit him in the facemask" but I didn't see any clear angle on the contact.

So what's your point? What does another independent play have ot do with tis one? But since you brought it up - yes, I agree, it should've been called a personal foul; but the refs missed it. I bet that player gets fined tohugh, as he should. If he is would that make you happy?

Ball's hit was shoulder to helmet. Still deserved a flag and fine don't get me wrong.

The hit to Romo was helmet to helmet. No flag, penality or fine BTW.

Looks like his point is that you don't know what you are talking about and should probably watch the two plays to see what leading with the helmet looks like.

I would like to know if that player got fined along with the Roy hit last week "if" you are following by letters of the rule.

The KC player had his head down, and hit OUR QB in the face. Totally different than what Ball did. Ball launched himself at the guy WITH HIS SHOULDER, and hit the guy in his shoulder. Ball did not put his head down and spear the guy. THAT IS THE POINT.

Why would the Roy hit get a fine?

Horrible rule and an even worse call IMO. Ball lead with the shoulder. There is no question about that. The way the WR came down, and the impact of the shoulder pad into the body of Wade caused his head to come forward which inititated the helmet contact. This is a real bad rule IMO. Head gear is going to make contact in football. Thats just part of the game IMO.

Did he get a FedEx from the league, as well?
