ESPN analyst Cris Carter issued a statement in an attempt to clarify his Monday comment about Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens.

Carter, appearing as a guest on ESPN's “Mike and Mike in the Morning” show, said the Cowboys should get rid of Owens, then followed that by saying “I take one bullet and put it right in him. Bam!”

ESPN issued a statement from the former All-Pro receiver, who said he should have been more careful when choosing his words.

“Obviously, I did not mean this literally,” Carter said. “It was not the right choice of words. I was simply recommending a personnel decision to improve the Cowboys.”

Much ado about nothing.

I'm glad he admitted to using the wrong words but he should not lose his job.

I think a bunch is being made out of nothing, in the first place, in regards to his wording. Who cares. it was obvious what he was talking about and that he wasn't talking about actually taking a gun out and shooting Owens.

Some people are just overly sensitive when it comes to things. There was nothing threatening about what he said unless you're a person who takes one sentence out of something and decides to show only that sentence, and none of the rest of the conversation around it.

I love when people express their faux outrage. It's hilarious.

I suppose you're right, but I can tell you that if the average joe used those words in the workplace, they would be disciplined and/or fired.

I've seen people disciplined for much less.

Media = Liberal

But you are assuming that he wasn't disciplined.

I wouldn't be suprised if this is what drove him to release a statement.

And what does the media being liberal have to do with anything.

If anything, the fact that he wasn't fired by the PC Police weakens your statement about the liberal media.

He is a Cowboys hater. Yes, he deserves to lose his job for that reason alone! ;)

It's fine that he apologized, but he still said the words, and as was said, people in the normal working world are fired for stuff like that.

i'll go back to what i said when this story first broke:

if he's fired from ESPN it should be b/c he sucks at his job, this issue would just give a little more fuel.

The media gives these guys a vehicle to air their thoughts. It has everything to do with the issue of BS being spouted out by talking heads, which is what this was. I hear it every day, and it has driven me to the point of turning off my TV, and not even watching the news. I couldn't tell you what is going on in the world these days.

I don't know if he was disciplined, but if he wasn't, then that tells me that the media is liberal and lets this stuff slide.

How would we feel if Carter made such comments about another well known individual, such as the President of the United States? I bet that would have gotten him fired.

The comment, in whatever context, is wrong, and it doesn't matter who it was directed to, and if he wasn't disciplined, then his employer is just as wrong IMO.

i think that's probably the reason he'll KEEP the job unfortunately.

we all know the real reason that Irvin isn't there anymore is b/c he supported Dallas instead of finding reasons to bash them

Wonder what would have happened if Rush had said it about TO?

He could get hired by the people who made the puppets for the Genesis Land Of Confusion video from the 80's. :D

He apologized. Good. He doesn't need to lose his job. Most people applying common sense understood he was speaking metaphorically.
Now let's move on.

I know the song and video well.... lol

Which one is Cris?

Also did you know that the first image of Reagan in the video is one of the statue faces from the 7 deadliest sins = GREED.

I saw the statue heads on a wall one day and said "thats Reagan from that video"

:laugh2:

I agree. I put this right up with the "nappy headed hoe's" comment. A playful and colorful way of putting something that was in bad taste. It was funnier being thought than it was being said. an apology is all that should be needed and only that because of his public image.

Really.. I work at a government facility and hear a lot worse. The problem is we all don't have mic's hooked to our jackets (or do we?? dun dun duuuuunnn). Heck, people probably type on hear, while at work, how much they would like to take a bullett to some of our coaches or players.

Several differences between the "nappy headed hoe's" comment and Carter's comment.

1. Don Imus' comment had nothing to do with the play of the Rutger's women's basketball team. Carter's comments had everything to do with the topic "How would you change the Cowboys?"

2. Don Imus is a political/social commentator opining on political/social events. What significance to sports does a person's hairstyle have? Cris Carter is a sports commentator opining on sports issues. Getting rid of T.O. has "everything" to do with sports commentary.

3. Don Imus invoked racial stereotypes about black people's hair and their sexuality, points - if you know anything about history - which were used to justify white superiority and black inferiority. Carter's comment was aimed (pardon the pun) specifically at T.O.

In short, Carter didn't use the best choice of words, but his situation is in no way, shape, form or fashion the same as Imus' situation.

tyke1doe, I have to disagree with you.

I don't think Don Imus should have been fired because of what he said.

It was indecent, insensitive and done in very poor taste.

However, I do believe that Don Imus should have been fired if Advertisers were dropping out because at that point it becomes an issue of a direct action costing the company money and that is always grounds for termination.
