tyke1doe, I have to disagree with you.

I don't think Don Imus should have been fired because of what he said.

It was indecent, insensitive and done in very poor taste.

However, I do believe that Don Imus should have been fired if Advertisers were dropping out because at that point it becomes an issue of a direct action costing the company money and that is always grounds for termination.

I wasn't comparing Carter's and Imus' situation in terms of firing. A company can do what it wants to do. ESPN can fire Carter and CBS chose to fire Imus.

I was contrasting their comments in terms of content and historical context. They're not the same.

It gets me that we as human, have said things we probably shouldn't have said, we are entitled to make mistakes

It is not like Carter talks this way all day everyday day. Yes he hates the Cowboys, but he doesn't make comments like this all the time. Give the man a break. He apologized. If T.O. ain't demanding for him to get fired, which was directed at him, then why should we.

Gotcha.

I thought you were saying he should have been fired.

I wonder if there is any truth to this statement.

As a former player, I wonder if he just hates how the Cowboys play and carry themselves.

I am not going to get on here and argue about the context of which somebody said something and it's historical signifigance. To me, they were both unintentionally offensive and not meant to be so. If you feel more strongly about Imus' remark then that is fine. I am not nearly saying that you shouldn't.

I know the song and video well.... lol

Which one is Cris?

Also did you know that the first image of Reagan in the video is one of the statue faces from the 7 deadliest sins = GREED.

I saw the statue heads on a wall one day and said "thats Reagan from that video"

:laugh2:

He could fill in for the Prince puppet and not need makeup. :D

You have a right to view them the same.
But as people we must draw distinctions between actions. Otherwise, everything becomes the same - killing a plant vs. killing a human.
Same action, but different context, content, etc.

That's how we are as humans, and that's what makes us intelligent and discerning.

I don't know how someone can call another human being a "nappy headed hoe" and that be unintentionally offensive.

I can see how someone can use a gun metaphor to explain how someone should be eliminated and intentionally imply that person should be shot dead.

And that's why I raised this issue. I see too many people making sweeping comparisons without regard to context or content. And I think those comparisons are faulty, which is the reason I challenge them.

Good day. :)

In short, Carter didn't use the best choice of words, but his situation is in no way, shape, form or fashion the same as Imus' situation.

I agree. Imus didn't say he would take a gun and put a bullet in the Rutgers women's basketball players.

What Carter said is FAR more serious than Imus' comment.

It was in poor taste but can be forgiven. It's not that big of a deal. He needs to apologize to TO. Is TO upset? Doubt it. Wonder if Carter called him.

Staff report - Express-News

ESPN analyst Cris Carter issued a statement in an attempt to clarify his Monday comment about Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens.

Carter, appearing as a guest on ESPN's “Mike and Mike in the Morning” show, said the Cowboys should get rid of Owens, then followed that by saying “I take one bullet and put it right in him. Bam!”

ESPN issued a statement from the former All-Pro receiver, who said he should have been more careful when choosing his words.

“Obviously, I did not mean this literally,” Carter said. “It was not the right choice of words. I was simply recommending a personnel decision to improve the Cowboys.”

In all fairness, had madden said this it would not have made news.
boom!
But because it was the often-dispised Cris Carter, it becames news.
I don't like Carter but I think his detractors wanted to make more of it than it actually was.

So you are forgiven, Cris. Now if only you'd shut up for gud. And I mean that figuratively, not literarlly.

Wonder what would have happened if Rush had said it about TO?

Good one. All hell would break loose. Remember Rush was once on ESPN, and made a certain comment about McNabb. We all know how that turned out.

I understand metaphors, but using murder as a metaphor is inexcusable for someone in his position.

He apologized. Good. He doesn't need to lose his job. Most people applying common sense understood he was speaking metaphorically.
Now let's move on.

its still a great sign of disrespect towards any person. metaphorically or not. Distasteful. Only a lowlife would say such a thing...

It serves him right to receive a T.O. helping of media scrutiny..but I, too, don't think he should lose his job...just as I support T.O. in keeping his.
