It was in poor taste but can be forgiven. It's not that big of a deal. He needs to apologize to TO. Is TO upset? Doubt it. Wonder if Carter called him.

I agree.
The bottom line he was going for a combination of shock value/revenge. TO dissed him for interview and Cris is like a friken elefant.... wont forget it.

It serves him right to receive a T.O. helping of media scrutiny..but I, too, don't think he should lose his job...just as I support T.O. in keeping his.

Exactly.

I think he should lose his job because he's an awful analyst. Everything is subjective and vague whethet it's related to the Cowboys or not. Who gives a rats a## what Chris Carter's opinion is about anything.

Much ado about nothing.

I'm glad he admitted to using the wrong words but he should not lose his job.

In a league where numerous players have been involved in or were suspected of being involved in crimes involving guns including murder and leaving people parapalegics for life, he needs to brush up on his metaphores 101 class. Had it been Cris Collinsworth saying " if I had a rope, I'd hang him from the tallest tree in Texas" he'd be out of a job today and you wouldnt be using "speaking metaphorically" as an excuse. Now that I have said that....I'll move on!

This guy should be fired. Micheal Irvin was the best they had, and he got fired over a pipe that wasn't even his.

This is outragous.

What if T.O. had said the same thing. How would the media, roger,or most of you have responed. Suspended or fined by the nfl. The same story as far as the media goes and get rid of him he's a cancer blah blah blah. Why is carter exempt from any of this. even when Tony called out garrett nothing was even said. There's alot of hypocrits out here.

Carter expressed a very strong personal opinion without using the correct language. There have been others who have expressed similarly emphasized opinions about Owens without consciously making a comparable mistake. It happens. And best of all, Owens will survive this latest attack on his impeccable character. No harm. No foul.

Chris is clearly still angry about the TO snubs, completely inappropriate comment.

I understand metaphors, but using murder as a metaphor is inexcusable for someone in his position.

But if you understand it to be a metaphor, then you should also understand how using a racial stereotype is different and more serious to a class of people.

The Rutger's women basketball team did not seek nor deserve the attention Don Imus gave it. T.O., based on his antics and the climate he has created in all his football stops, including Dallas, does.

Maybe not for his comments this particular time, but for being horrible at his job, yes he should.

Staff report - Express-News

ESPN analyst Cris Carter issued a statement in an attempt to clarify his Monday comment about Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens.

Carter, appearing as a guest on ESPN's “Mike and Mike in the Morning” show, said the Cowboys should get rid of Owens, then followed that by saying “I take one bullet and put it right in him. Bam!”

ESPN issued a statement from the former All-Pro receiver, who said he should have been more careful when choosing his words.

“Obviously, I did not mean this literally,” Carter said. “It was not the right choice of words. I was simply recommending a personnel decision to improve the Cowboys.”

its still a great sign of disrespect towards any person. metaphorically or not. Distasteful. Only a lowlife would say such a thing...

I'm not disputing whether it was in bad taste. That is obvious based on the reaction. My points on the issue are ...

1. You'd have to be devoid of common sense to believe Carter was speaking literally (as if hitmen announce their intentions on national radio)
and
2. This situation can't be compared to Don Imus' comment, which was worse.

While Imus' comments were ignorant, he didn't say he was going to kill any of those young ladies.

Please, stop.

It's not the same thing. A racial image is always going to get more attention and is going to generate more outrage because it's tied to a class of people.

A gun metaphor, while distasteful, is not going to get the same attention because it is 1.) a metaphor and 2.) it was aimed (pardon the pun) at a person who has been publicly criticized.

Just a word of advice and warning. Please don't use that argument outside of the Internet.

He used a metaphor, a poor one, but it's a metaphor. No one with an ounce of common sense would think he was talking about killing T.O.

Please, stop trying to minimize what Imus said by comparing it to Carter's comment.

I know, just saying, he did say he'd put a bullet in TO.

But,
You never know, Carter could be back on the booger sugar.
