not saying any of that. just saying this team isnt the cesspool you guys make it out to be. This is a team thats gonna contend this yr. And quite possibly get its coach in 2020. Its amazing that even when the Jones' tell the fan base and the entire world theyre not going to be very active in FA and rather worry about their own guys that they need to sign and want to be cowboys for a long time, somehow you guys are caught by suprise. Maybe this team just aint for you guys.

Dallas is not the worst just because they don’t believe in Free agency the way some teams do.

The object is to win games. NE has a similar philosophy. They don’t sign guys to mega contracts either, arethey second worst?

I get what your saying but make no mistake about it, we aren’t New England and Garrett is NOT Belichick. Nowhere close to being on that level. When you have that level of coach you have a chance to win with no name guys.

Most teams don’t have a half dozen players they have to strongly consider giving elite second contracts to in the next 2 seasons.

Right on! Stephen has said for several years now that they use FA for filling holes and the draft for adding new talent. Lots of whiners and cry babies on here just refuse to listen. Stephen has a budget for each position and he uses McClay to evaluate the available players at to position coaches need. Stephen waits until the 1st wave of silly deals pass and then looks to add players at bargain prices for the next year or two. He will not overspend on positions which is why ET left the area for much more money. I'm sure Stephen made an offer based on his value for the safety position and it wasn't good enough...so what? Will the Cowboys ever win a SB again? Not if the HC is named Garrett and the QB is named Dak they won't. You need a Belicheat and Brady to do that or maybe another Jimmy and Aikman.

no. he was a FA that like hitchens was priced out of our range. we decided to let him go because we had tyron, fred, martin and collins. can't keep all 5 at high costs and leary had a knee issue that would degenerate from what i remember. that's why he fell in the draft.

The problem is not that they’re staying out of the big price market. It’s that they haven’t resigned their own like they promised.

They’ve done quite well on the secondary market but this year they have 2 big holes as it stands today at LE and RE and 2nd and 3rd round picks won’t fill them adequately for the production that was being gotten from the position last year

A second round safety would be an upgrade to Heath or maybe even the slot position.

But for a team that was built on its defense last year, 2 big reasons for that are gone as it stands today.

and the list goes on and on...FA is a tool the Cowboys use later in the offseason to fill holes. Guys like Fleming, and Woods who contribute and stick with the team to continue to contribute, and rely on drafting. Thats how they build the team now and its working.

I like what the Giants did this offseason. They are clearly rebuilding. So, not paying a safety huge money and cashing in oft-injured OBJ for a 1st and 3rd makes a lot of sense. Vernon is 33 and was set to make 15.5 million.. They'll have Eli off the books soon. They are looking at a ton of cap space and future draft picks going forward.

we'd have to first define the parameters of "worse" as not everyone is going to see it the same way as you. as for the teams above, i'm sure they've signed people i just don't see the major headlines out of 'em.

Dallas isn't terrible in FA. Their approach is simply low reward and low risk, along with minimal cap hits for free agents.
There are plenty of more active teams that are worse in FA cause they strike out on bigger names due to scheme, laziness(on both sides) or production issues .
