As well as some completely off base assumptions.

Yeah just saw that post. I was typing when that came up I guess....texbumthelife;3347913 said:Did you read the entire thread?

Actually, tell me yourself. What makes Mays a better safety prospect then Allen? Is it his speed, his size?
Apparently, me and many others on this board know more then many NFL teams then too, interesting isn't it?
Ball instincts are ball instincts and Allen has em. The guy needs a bit of work but I feel he's more ready to come in and help out than Mays is.CanuckCowboysFan;3347918 said:USF still faces quality competition. The only weak teams he faced his sr year were Western Kentucky, Charleston, and Wofford. So the competition just a tad below that of USC's. That should be the least of you're worries though, like you said MJ turned out good.
Funny thing about ceilings, its hard to reach emBob Sacamano;3347922 said:No, it isn't. And as an answer to your question. Mays is more highly ranked because his ceiling is higher.

All good man, now you have seen the "Nate Allen" light. No hard feelings.
I've wanted the Boys to draft him for about 2-3 weeks now, but knowing how it always turns out they'll either just barely miss him or pick some other safety (hopefully not Mays).

CanuckCowboysFan;3347936 said:so Jerry should select Mays over Allen because Mays' ceiling is higher, in other words more potential? As opposed to Allen who has proved himself for 3 years? Look at the tape. Look at there strengths and there weaknesses. Mays is an in the box safety at the next level, Allens a centerfielder with arguably the best overall FS skill set in the draft.
Yeah, lets waste the 27th pick based on potential alone...
I could say the same thing about Allen. He has a high ceiling and unlimited potential aswell...

I don't think that's what he was trying to say. I think we shouldn't worry about "reaching" for a player like Nate Allen. We should just pick the player that best fits our need, and our top two needs are a OT, OG, and a FS (playmaking centerfielder) the last of which Allen fits better than Mays. Allen is more of a sure thing than Mays is.texbumthelife;3347939 said:Screw it, lets just trade our first rounder and Roy Williams for Ed Reed this year. I put an emphasis on playmaking ability which Allen has shown and Mays only has on paper.Bob Sacamano;3347944 said:Why? Because he's 230 lbs.?
BTW, you place too much emphasis on college production.

And for every Michael Crabtree, there is a Darrius Heyward-Bey..... I would rather not take a risky player like Mays in the first round and instead take a player that's shown production.Bob Sacamano;3347964 said:Why? For every Phillip Rivers, there is a Ty Detmer. Or for every Ed Reed there is a Michael Huff.

1.25 INT/season isn't production in my mind. 3.33 INT is.Bob Sacamano;3347976 said:Yet Mays has shown production.
