Nate Allen

Well apparently USF players are supposed to be horrible because someone named Mike Jenkins from USF didn't make the Pro Bowl last season.... Strength of competition doesn't matter as much IMO. Plenty of small school players have done well int he NFL, you don't have to be from a big football power. USC has had quite a few duds that were supposed to be studs,ie. most of their WRs and RBs and some of their QBs, big school doesn't necessarily help.

I guess I just fail to see how college production matters. But only in it's most shallowest aspect.

I guess I don't understand why INTs are the only stat that matters for safeties? I'm pretty confident that Mays is going to be a good player at the next level. I wouldn't mind him on the team.

I think me and Bob should start the official Cowboyzone Mays fan club. It just makes me laugh how whenever his name gets brought up the comparisions to Roy Williams start (also ignoring that RW was a pretty good safety at one point). It just seems to me that some have an irrational hatred for the guy.

It's exactly what it is. 230 pound safety, oops, Roy Williams!! Move him to LB!!! Nevermind that their games were completely different in college.

Did USF really play teams like Wofford, Western Kentucky, Charleston Southern, Tennessee Martin, UCF, Elon, and Florida Atlantic? Hard to compare stats of a player vs teams like that with a player that plays USC's schedule.

They had the 59th ranked schedule in 2009, USC had the 19th.

Also, someone mentioned that Allen was a 3-year starter and Mays was a 4-year starter. So Allen gets credit for not being good enough to start his 1st year?

By the way, I like Allen. He's the 4th best safety available in this draft. I'd rank him slightly ahead of Burnett (sorry Rampage) and Chad Jones.

first off, they only played 3 teams you mentioned this past year. Second, I could careless of the difficulty of the schedule, if you're talented, you're talented. Third, you're just completely contradicting yourself when you say USF had the 59th ranked D and USC the 19th. USC having the better overall D should help Mays, yet it did not. Look what Allen did on a bad D, compared to what Mays did on a good one. Fourth, who cares if Allen started or not his freshmen year...look what he did from then on. 3 years is a big diff.

This is like the 3rd time were debating this. No more lol. Do you honestly see Mays as a better fit in this D? We need a centerfielder with elite ball skills and a leader. Allen has the best overall skill set out of all FS this year.

Production and potential is what you should base it on. Mays was solid in the production area and his potential is through the roof.

Production 80, potential 20. His production was sub par, his potential is debatable. That wasn't warrant a 27th selection.

Everyone whose opinion matters disagree with you.

I provided you with links that many teams are looking at him as a LB, not as a safety...so I don't know why you're mocking the fans.

And yours does? LOL. The only people in favor of Mays in this thread are you and Chris...so *** are you talking about? You're the minority in here buddy, so its actually the other way around.

LOL those links you provided came from non-NFL affiliated couch-scouts.

Not 19th ranked defense, 19th ranked schedule. Playing lesser competition should give you better stats no? As far as those weak teams I mentioned I went back 3 years since Allen is a 3-year starter. I just don't think putting up stats against the Wofford and Elon QB's makes you better than someone who played higher caliber opponents.

I'm not quite sure were you have gained the knowledge that Allen is a better leader than Mays. I guess that will have to be chalked up to opinion.

aswell as many NFL teams.

And even so, some teams have a higher grade on Allen, so some are.

it's all good, bro.

I wasn't intending to talk him up. I just honestly haven't seen much about Allen and although I don't want Mays, I am in the Burnett camp, I think the kid will make a good safety. Its all good.
Welcome aboard, Tex!

What do you mean playing lesser competition should give you better stats no?

And Allen played against 3 non d1AA teams this past year. It's not like all his games were against crappy competition. And I'm not even sure he put up good numbers in those 3 games, so it's not like his piling up stats. He still played with teams like Cincy, Pitt etc. All of the other teams in the Big East played lesser competition too, and there not getting knocked. USC played some crappy competition to (WSU, SJ state).

And I've read thats hes very smart (high Wonderlic) and was a team captain/leader on his D in many scouting reports. Haven't read the same on Mays. I don't know, I guess its opinion in a way.
