Nate Newton: "When you fall back 50 times you let the defense punch you 50 times"

My personal feeling is from Tyler on down the left side, our guys are too light... They are getting knocked back too much. That's the only reason I can think of that we keep getting the holding penalties on the line... Again, just my thought...

Biadasz is 316. Biadasz, Martin, Tyron, and Collins are all 315+. Williams was supposedly up to 315 in 2019. Biadasz and Williams aren't road graders, but this is a big oline.
Nate's explanation accounts for the oline failing to drive guys off the ball. Play your oline passively, you don't grind down the defense.

Much like our failure to press our advantage with Lamb and Cooper on the outside, with the oline it looks like it's all schematics, with no sense of *beating your man*, both figuratively and literally.

Moore said this year that "yards are yards", failing to recognize the obvious difference that running yards allow you to beat up the opponent. There is no appreciation that his Xs and Os are real live physical human beings. Huge conceptual failure in an OC.

When I heard him say that, I said "uh oh". Maybe he can learn otherwise. Hope so. But it's a very bad sign when an NFL professional hasn't figured out what any casual observer of the game knows. This stinks of Garrettitis, thinking that you're just smarter than the rest and so rejecting conventional wisdom because you're Boy Genius, and not because it is wrong.

We already know what they were thinking.. "Yards are yards..." They never planned to run the ball anyway so if the plan going in is pass pass pass then the better pass blocking back needs to be in there.. Not saying I agree.. just pointing out the (horribly flawed) thinking.

Yep. "Yards are yards" were my first big red flag on Moore. It's just so wrong.

The guy was arrested for transporting drugs....I have ZERO respect for him..
He was trafficking grass which is legalized in more and more states every year. Since you seem to want to condemn the man for life, I would guess that the man renouncing his former life and going straight doesn’t matter to you. There seems to be a lot of people that judges others while they sit on their high horse.

.... you let the defense punch the line in the mouth 50 times"

Listening to Nate on HWTB podcast and he echoed a lot of what I have been saying about our offense specifically with regard to the pass/run ratio and the blocking schemes. He reiterated that our guys are too good a players to keep looking this bad. Basically stating that the blocking schemes are too passive and gives the defensive front all the advantage even in the run game because we stand up and absorb the hit even on running plays for the most part. I get the theory behind it.. You try to make all the plays look the same so as not to tip things to the defense.. but guess what.. the goal of the defensive line is to stalemate the offensive line and find the ball. If you stand up and don't drive them they can go find the ball without exerting a lot of energy.. and when they see it's a pass they can go hunt your QB. When they see it's run, unless they are complete chumps they are already in position to make the tackle... or the backside guy who just threw your tight end out of the way will.

Even the toughest guy on the block will eventually get knocked out if you let the other guy punch him over and over without letting him punch back. This team needs to get back to punching the defense in the mouth.. Period..
I've been saying this for years. Took Nate this long to figure that out and say something about it?

Do you feel the same way about the players on the teams you coached, or the players on the Cowboys that smoke a little weed?

Yeah.....I do. It's all relative, but I can't understand why he would transport that shortly after he retired...I met Bam Morris Bach in the 90s on South Padre Island, he was arrested the next day at a checkpoint with a trunk full of weed.....SMH.....you wanna get a buzz, do something legal that's not gonna get people killed, used, menaced, etc......and yes, pot is legal now....but it wasn't then

we all admit this an issue and im sure its being evaluated by the FO and coaches. best thing for this offense is if KM leaves on his own, then get new OC, OLC and reshuffle the line and find better scheme.

IF KM doesn't leave will MM and the FO have the cohonies to fire Km? or MM take the paly call duty's and get rid of Philbin? oer will they fall in luv with the overall rankings s of our mirage of an offensive line and offense?

So if we are keeping track.....

MM brought in his buddy Nolan to run the defense. No need to rehash the specifics.

He brought in other buddy to run ST and we run fake punts from our down 20 down by 6, and that same guy brings in his buddy, a kicker that misses 6 extra points.

Another part of the friendly fun is the OL coach.....

Really, what does MM bring to the table besides constantly reminding the world that he once won a Super Bowl?
the ST is the best its been in decades, sorry but i get your point. hopefully OLC and some changes along the Line happen this offseason.

Oh Nate has been saying it for years too... But remember the Cowboys only went to this style of line play and their primary since Moore took over. Under Garrett, Callahan and Linehan they went out and tried to maul.. and were usually successful .. They mixed in zone blocking from time to time but it was not a staple. They tried it for the first half of 2018 with Paul Alexander and the results looked a lot like what we saw this year.. so they fired him and promoted Columbo and things returned to normal. But when Garrett got shown the door so did Columbo and in steps Philbin with this passive as hell blocking scheme.. and our guys have not taken to it at all. More and more the last three seasons it has become the primary mode of attack..

That was a little on the emotional side. For some reason my pissed offness peaked yesterday.

MM isn't a problem per se, but he is starting to irritate me by constantly reminding everyone that he once won a SB. We don't want to hear that.

Thinking on the whole thing since, using much more time than I ought to on it, I'm not so sure the OL coach is the issue (although he will probably have to be a scapegoat).....

I think the much bigger problem is tendencies and tells that Moore has, the league caught up to, and he had no answer for.

Williams and Biadasz are what they are, but they were much better earlier in the season when it didn't seem like the defense knew what was coming pre snap.

of course if moore left it would be easier because the new OC would bring in a new OLC etc but will he leave will MM fire KM or at minimum take the play call duties from him? i mean this might be MM hot seat prove it season so he might want to do this for self-preservation.

nkt sure he has tells but he easy to defense because they know he won't scheme runs to counter the defensive gamelan to take it away, the OL is big issue but moores unwillingness to scheme the run is a big issue. easy to defense when you know pass is coming 785% of the time.

RonnieT24......wouldn't this be an indictment on Moore and Philbin?

Respect or not, it doesn't make him wrong about his point.
This one point would probably solve many of the problems that exist in our society. People take sides and would rather be wrong than agree with someone who is right that they don’t like.
