If they were able to get a player in the late 1st, who would you want them to target

depends on what they do early. I've always liked the way Montrezl plays, I think Dakari Johnson is smarter and more polished than most know. Jordan Mickey is a good stretch 4, and I like Norman Powell's athleticism ... but the last three will probably be 2nd rounders...

Duncan will do whatever is best for the team, and yes, he would come off the bench if it meant the best shot at another ring.

Fine - but in no way, shape, or form is it best for Duncan to come off the bench. For the team, or for a shot at a ring.

Ok, first off, let me say, that the following cannot and will not ever happen......it is just a Texas-sized pipe dream

Spurs sign Leonard to max contract (can and will happen)
Spurs trade Splitter, 2016 1st, 2017 2nd, and 2019 2nd to Memphis for Marc Gasol (Grizzlies get something instead of nothing)
Spurs sign Joseph and Bonner, then trade both to Toronto for 2016 and 2017 2nd. (Toronto gets a very good backup PG and a 3 pt threat)
Spurs sign LaMarcus Aldridge to a 2 year deal (short contract because of the huge cap number in a few years)
Spurs sign Danny Green to MLE (gives time to work out long term deal)
Spurs sign Duncan, Manu, Diaw, and Baynes to vet minimums
Spurs trade 2015 1st to Minnesota for both of Minnesota's 2015 2nds
Spurs let Ayres, Williams, and Belinelli (can't afford to keep him) walk

Draft
31 - C Robert Upshaw - Washington (knucklehead, great shot blocker, lots of untapped talent but needs the right situation)
36 - SF Anthony Brown - Stanford (high IQ, very good spot up shooter, versatile defender)
55 - G Pat Connaughton - ND (high IQ, very good athlete, great court vision and awareness, decent shooter (Chip will fix his flaws), high energy defender)

Roster
PG - Parker, Mills, Anderson
SG - Green, Manu, Connaughton
SF - Leonard, Anderson, Brown
PF - Aldridge, Duncan, Diaw
C - Gasol, Baynes, Upshaw

Reality.....
we keep Leonard, Duncan, Manu, Baynes, Diaw
we lose Green, Belinelli, Joseph, Bonner, Ayres, Williams
we sign Aldridge, low-cost veteran wing player or two
we draft a big and wing with our 2 picks

You lost me with Duncan 2nd team. He was an All Star and All Defense last year. His inside presence on offense spreads the defense and allows the team to play Spurs ball. His defensive prowess sets the tone defensively. He's the heart and sole of the team and if he comes back he'll be starting every game no matter who they sign.

time to bring this back... although the title should be edited...lol

Jeff Green ops in.... Gaol expected back in Memphis..
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source...ption-to-remain-with-grizzlies-172015333.html

Griz has to improve their wings... I think Jordan Adams, 1st round pick from a year ago, is ready to help.

Grizz need a 4th quarter scoring option that can handle the ball.

I think we'll surprised by hoe many guys opt in this year with an eye on the trans-formative free agency of next year.
not only do guys see possible bigger pay days, I think NBA teams alos want to get to that free agency with lots of cash to spend so will be frugal this off-season if it isn't an elite player.

Miami low-balling Wade and also reportedly trying to now offer Dragic less than max is interesting. It almost looks as if they'd like to get to 2016 with a ton of space but no players to try and recreate the big 3 off-season. Seems foolhardy but you never know.

Ill put this here instead of the NBA thread since the season is over.. and some crazy guy is arguing about Lebron vs Micheal in another thread....

Have to say Phil might be right about this (Oscar Robinson said he stopped watching the game because of the same thing):

What Jackson did talk about at length was his belief in "a structure" or "a format" that involves all five players and emphasizes ball and player movement, whether it's the triangle or another system. He cited the Spurs and Warriors and Hawks as teams that exemplified the ideal.

But he disdains much of what he sees: an endless series of pick-and-roll plays, one setting up the next, until someone gets a layup or a three-pointer.

"The game actually has some beauty to it, and we've kind of taken some of that out of it to make it individualized," Jackson said. "It's a lot of who we are as a country, individualized stuff."

Indeed, Jackson seems much less concerned with validating the triangle than with the state of the game itself.

"When I watch some of these playoff games, and I look at what's being run out there, as what people call an offense, it's really quite remarkable to see how far our game has fallen from a team game," Jackson said. "Four guys stand around watching one guy dribble a basketball."

Don't do it Sacramento! They did it to us (sixers), they're trying to do it to you too!!!!

Sources say that the Lakers, Kings and Orlando Magic have had exploratory dialogue on a three-way Cousins trade that would land the 24-year-old in Los Angeles. All three teams hold top-six picks in Thursday's NBA draft, and Orlando has a young top-flight center of its own in Nikola Vucevic, who could theoretically fill the Cousins void.

Yet since assuming control of the Kings' front office in April, Divac repeatedly has downplayed the idea of parting with Cousins, who has three seasons left on an extension he signed during the summer of 2013.

The Lakers would appear to have limited assets to get into the trade sweepstakes for Cousins -- in the event Sacramento's stance changes -- beyond surrendering prized young big man Julius Randle and/or the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's draft.

Orlando holds the fifth pick in the draft but would presumably expect a lot to be willing to part with Vucevic, who signed an extension of his own last October and has become the most consistently productive player from the four-team blockbuster trade in August 2012 that sent Dwight Howard from the Magic to the Lakers.

Actually, from what I've heard reported, Carl would be willing to trade Cousins to the Lakers for their #2 overall. However, Divac is refusing to make a trade for Cousins. Sounds like there is Dissension in the ranks in Sacramento.

yeh.... I've heard that..... selfishly I need the lakers to stink for one more year....:D
From a basketball perspective, that's how bad teams stay bad, and good organizations resurrect....
If the Lakers do it, its a coupe... and will help their free agency prospects as well..
Cousins>Okafor....

Cousins is pretty good. He has a bit of an attitude but he can play. I don't know that the Lakers or anybody will see Cousins get moved. If you believe Divac, it's not happening. However, Cousins and Karl don't like each other. I would not be surprise to find Cousins at the end of the bench by the end of the season, if he is not moved. Would also not be surprised if Karl resigned. He doesn't like not having control over the players.

Yeh... I think this is a power struggle... If Cousins is there, Karl may not be there much longer....
If I'm Cousins, I'm like "Heck yeh, trade me to LA"....

ROFL. Jordan and Jackson created the modern game.
They even created offensive rules to prevent the old Jordan 1 side clear out.

The Spurs and Warriors are fun to watch because they pass the ball. Coaches can demand the pass out of any system.
The issue with basketball is we drill skill individually. One player or maybe a couple players going through individualized things with an emphasis on personally putting the ball in the basket. The art of seeing the floor and passing the ball has really been devalued.

Monta Ellis to opt out.
Interesting that Dallas forced his hand floating trade ideas if he opted in.

Gives Dallas 30m. Assuming they really want Aldridge and a re-signed Tyson Chandler plus a starting 2 like Danny Green.
Would likely then to try to acquire Mo Williams as another mediocre PG.

off the ball movement is stagnant among many teams in the NBA.
