Running back Darren McFadden is coming off three years of dismal returns with the Raiders that have led some to suggest that there’s not much left in the tank of the former first-round pick.

The Cowboys placed a bet the other way when they signed McFadden as their lone significant addition to the backfield after DeMarco Murray left for the Eagles as a free agent. The first few months haven’t sent the message that much has changed as the oft-injured McFadden missed time with a hamstring injury, but the veteran said over the weekend that he feels like he’s getting a brand new start with the Cowboys.

“It’s great to be in Dallas,” McFadden said while running a football camp for families at Little Rock Air Force Base, via the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “I’m looking forward to getting on the field with those guys and doing great things this year. … Definitely exciting. I tell everybody I feel like a rookie all over again. I just want to go out there, stay healthy and run the ball the way I know I can run the ball.”

McFadden should get plenty of chances to do that once training camp is underway and he’ll get those chances behind a deep and talented offensive line that helped Murray lead the league in running last season. If that doesn’t lead to better results than he’s had recently, his “rookie” season in Dallas probably won’t lead to a long second chapter for McFadden.

Like to see him and Williams in the eye, you can give it to Williams on the inside or pitch it to DM, and with our line, it might be time to re-introduce the old power sweep.

Good to hear he is feeling good but hopefully he can produce better than his rookie season in Oakland.

Though he can't be rookie of the year, I sure think he can perform like it though. Without the rookie learning experience will be a plus.

I feel like he could put up Murray numbers behind this line. If we gave him the same workload, which we won't.

So with that said, I think he will do good enough to show most that Murray was not needed. Not 1 bit.

I don't, because I don't think he can stay healthy enough. He's been in the league for 7 years. He is what he is at this point.

Being in the league for 7 years and having a team surrounding you can effect one's career to that point. Now he has a team. I think he will be just fine. Murray had to overcome the injury status too.

sarcastic remarks in 3, 2, 1...

Just off the top of my head:

By saying he 'feels like a rookie', does that mean he's already hurt his big toe and will only start 5 games like he did the first time around?

;)

Sorry! Just couldn't help myself!

Murray still produced, even with a suspect line early in his career, when he was on the field. McFadden is coming off 3 years in a row where he averaged less than 3.5 YPC. Pretty dismal.

I dont expect 1800 yards out of Mc. but I do anticipate 800/1000
with 1800 added via way of committee

He gave the Raiders over 100 rushes that year!

But seriously, if he can go 113-499-4 (4.4 YPC for those who can't do math) while adding 29 catches for 285 yards as he did as a rookie, I'd call that great production provided that he's the #2 (as I expect he will be)
