NBC: Darren McFadden feels like a rookie again

Sorry if this is rehashing a bit, but here's some often overlooked Darren McFadden tidbits:

-Even though he enters his eighth NFL season, he'll be just 28 when it starts.

-All those injuries early in his career means there's not a lot of tread on his tires. His career high for carries was 223 in 2010.

-Reading stories on non-Cowboys affiliated sites make it sound like Dallas is counting on McFadden to simply step in and replace Murray. FALSE. Dallas is using a committee approach; and I personally think Joseph Randle will be the lead back.

-Relatively speaking, he's here cheap. This is a low risk, high reward signing.

I don't think he is low risk, high reward in the least bit. He is a low risk, low reward player. All those injuries take a toll, and he has far exceeded the league average as far as longevity goes. It is foolish to think he will get better with age. To quote Marsellus Wallace from Pulp Fiction:

"You see, this profession is filled to the brim with unrealistic guys. Guys who thought their butt would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't. "

He had the speed not sure how fast he is now. Seastrunk would be the fastest back currently on the team he ran a 10.33 100 meters.

Seastrunk will be lucky to make it to the practice squad before getting cut. McFadden has the pedigree to get it done in the running game and passing game.

My money is on McFadden.

And your quote comes from a more than fictional movie.

I'm on board with McFadden, but I think Randle will really shine this year. I don't think Darren's going to get that many opportunities on O. Maybe on special teams though, with the departure of Harris.

OK this is nowhere near the topic, but...

If you're betting money McFadden is the guy and although Seastrunk has an uphill battle to make the team his speed makes him intriguing which I'm sure is why the Cowboys brought him in.

It's the one and only Sydney Durso.

Though he can't be rookie of the year, I sure think he can perform like it though. Without the rookie learning experience will be a plus.

Come

Agreed that is why he was brought in. I'm intrigued too. I won't complain if he turns out.

I wish he felt like a Junior at Arkansas.

1830yds rushing 16 TDs plus receiving , passing and return yards.

DMC still run's a 4.3....If healthy, he will be the starter...

McFadden sure gets a lot of credit for his speed still.

Too bad few still do not recognize that there is a lot more than that to be a top notch back.

But he's fast.

Not everyone has to be slow like Eddie George to be washed up. You can be fast and a never was or will be as well.

Well we wont know anything till regular season games start, and really we need to see at least 4 games
to see what any of our RB's can or will do.
TC meh
PS I have seen guys look great in PS, but not so much later in regular season.
All of them are a big ? mark.

He had said so during a tv interview he gave right after he signed...

Maybe. I found this from around this time last year:

"I'm going to run a 4.3 'til I'm 50," McFadden said. "As far as the exact (40-yard dash) time, I'm still a 4.3 guy. I don't feel that I've lost a step at all."

In six seasons, he has missed an average of almost five games per season to injuries. Seriously, that could be a good thing.

"I'm just now getting ready to turn 27," McFadden said, "so I feel like I still have a lot of football in me. I guess that's one of the bright sides of me being injured, you know? Less games took a lot of wear and tear off my body, so I still have a lot of years of football left in me."

He went on to start only 12 games for 155 carries for 534 yards and 2 TDs.

Not really worried about DMC's speed in the open field. I would like to see him prove he can get into that open field running behind a ZBS, though. From there, stay healthy while doing it.

Like to see him and Williams in the eye, you can give it to Williams on the inside or pitch it to DM, and with our line, it might be time to re-introduce the old power sweep.

I doubt Williams even makes the team. That's what happens when you can't stay healthy.

sarcastic remarks in 3, 2, 1...

I laugh when people base his lack of production to him bust but totally ignore the fact that he was raider. Comparing the raiders OL to the Cowboys is like comparing Weeden to Romo or Street to Dez. I dont know if he will match what Murray did, but i will put my money on this team matching that production with McFadden and Randle together.
