He’s not slipping at all. It’s miraculous he got this team into a playoff and won the SEC. This is not a typical Bama team loaded with 12 guys ready for the NFL in April. In fact , this is probably the least talented team he’s had in a decade, particularly on offense.
OR is it more to the point that he is not as great a coach when he does not have the overwhelming talent edge?
AND certainly you have to admit that Alabama is not recruiting as over the top as they were so how is that not slipping?

This is a popular take but it is also nonsense.

Fans pretend love to act like they were super invested in the 1987 Sun bowl.
The are lying.

Bowl season has always been about your team, a few big Bowls and then intriguing match ups.

Last night was still a mass of errors with the best teams and the best players all competing. That is the nature of college football. It isn't the pros. You do have missed FG and bobbled snaps and bad plays. And you have special players make big time plays that seem impossible. Its magic in that moment when a kid like Penix displays true elevation.

Bowls are rewards. If kids want to opt out then so be it. You play younger guys and reward them instead.
Fans love to cry but no one made them watch any Bowl game.
If fans stop watching, they will stop televising them and thus they will stop occurring.
Who pissed in your Cheerios?

I’m a UGA fan but he’s got my respect. I get it. Some people hate winners. Your entitled.
you claim you are a UGA fan but you bleed Bama crimson when you talk about Saban
calling anyone criticizing him a hater is classic Fanboy behavior

Just proved my point.

Its amusing you excuse Saban for not having the level of talent he was used to and then claim that is just fine; not anything wrong with that at all
Amusing

Thats BS. The were in the CFP bc they won the SEC which is college football’s greatest accomplishment. I disagree with just about every opinion you offer so this is no surprise.
you disagree because you are head in sand clueless.
I literally tell you boys what is going to happen before it does and you say nana nana na na then it happens and you get mad at me, lol.

winning the SEC is NOT the greatest accomplishment and in fact Georgia didn't care all that much provided they still got to go to the CFP because the National Title is all that matters to those elite schools.
the SEC is easily regarded as the best football conference and deservedly so, but it is also mightily overrated at the same time.
8 conf games and about 1/3 of the league are pretty bad.
Teams aren't facing this murderers' row the SEC folks pretend.

UT and OU are coming so we shall see how the SEC handles that next year but the SEC will do so not having made a CFP championship for the first time in a long time.

No……UT was not the 2nd best team all year. Not even close.

Michigan and Georgia were both better teams than UT for most of the year.
Michigan does not have the offensive weapons of UT.
UT has a QB, RB and 2 WRs all in the top 75 of PFF big board. I am a horns down guy btw,,,,

Georgia has talent but was sluggish and off all year. People suggested they would lose a game and they did.
Probably just a bit of a hang over from being so dominant and losing 20 guys to the NFL over 2 seasons.
They were struggling to find a lead rusher, lead receiver and of course all world Bowers got hurt.
I do think Georgia would have beaten Michigan.

I expect WAS to beat Mich handily but we shall see; they are 5 point underdogs.
I am putting 100 on the moneyline for WAS.
If I am right it pays 170.

Michigan played TWO top 25 teams in the regular season.
They got the worst offense in P5 football (Iowa) in the Big CG.
They won in OT over a down Bama.

I am just glad Alabama is not in the title game; and the SEC is not in the title game.

I do want to see a new champion; but much rather it be washington then michigan

Harbaugh has never won it all at any level; let us see how he coaches in this game

Wow, yeah all non-Championship games are losing tons of players and people will stop watching. The bowl committees have to be freaking out. Wonder if schools will try to toss in a clause that athletes have to play in a bowl game or the NCAA will do it? No one will be watching any non-BCS games in the future if this continues because it will only get worse. They would have to cancel them or force people to play. Gonna be interesting.

Not trying to beat on you (or anyone) just saying this take has been all over lately and it just wrong.

Lower tier Bowl games have been awful forever, lol. but if it is your team in them you watch.
If kids opt out you watch for the young kids that will have to step up next year anyway.

Bowl games were the 10 most watched NON-NFL programs in December.

Here are some recent bowl game ratings:

I hope this helps!

Don‘t know about you, but I watch bowl games when the 2 teams are both ranked. Love close college games. I understand the business side of it but most of these kids are never going to play in the NFL so Bowl games become the pinnacle of their football careers. But alls not lost for football fans like me because of the expanded playoffs next year.

Bama had 9 kids enter the portal yesterday.
The portal is giving us some sense of parity.

That is more than fair.
It is a personal thing for sure.
But Va Tech vs Tulane drew 2.28M viewers.
Thats nuts. And why these games will still occur.

FSU got hosed so the entire starting lineup opted out. That was ugly but the committee deserved it.
The expanded playoffs will help. I have been in favor of a 16-team playoff for like 12 years.

Every other major American sport has a playoff.

I do think they'll tweak the schedule again. When the windows open for transfers and all that jazz.
But it is going to be a nasty bit of tetris that has to work around school semesters which unfortunately collide with bowl season.

At the end of the day we are gonna get what we get and likely still watch.
But yes those playoff numbers will do big-time ratings.

FSU didn’t get hosed. They were without their star QB, and it is the committee’s job to pick the four best teams at the end of the year. The committee’s bylaws literally require them to take player availability and injuries into account when picking playoff teams. The committee got it right as proven by FSU’s historically embarrassing loss against Georgia.
That was ugly but the committee deserved it.
How did the committee deserve anything? They were proven right and justified since FSU lost so badly against Georgia. The committee definitely didn’t want FSU’s garbage team in the playoffs. The committee could care less what happened in the Orange bowl. They only cared about the playoff games.
