Alright, been doing some digging.

The SEC wants Texas A & M for sure, as we all know by now. I think the Aggies will bolt for the SEC and shock Texas and be of a great value to the SEC.

Rumor has it that the SEC has been secretly planning to counter the Big Ten and Pac Ten for months.

Florida State, West Virginia, and Clemson may be headed to the SEC. They are being very quiet while Miami and Virginia Tech recently came out and stated that they wanted to stay in the ACC.

It looks like the SEC wants to get Texas A & M first and go from there.
A&M wants to stick it to Texas and Texas just wants to keep their powerful influence. I doubt the Longhorns will want to go to the SEC b/c they won't be the big dogs, the PAC-10 makes sense for Texas but not for A&M. In the end I think the most desired move for them both is to reform the Big 12 and start poaching schools from other conferences.

Texas will not go to the SEC

I mean having to play georgia, ole miss, state, lsu, kentucky, bama, florida, auburn, tennessee, south carolina, vanderbilt, and arkansas week in and week out - they will be lucky to end up .500

cause they will not win it all every year

top conferences for UT

Conference USA

Mountain West - naw they have to play TCU

As a Longhorn alumnus, I would prefer to join the Big 10, which, more than any other conference, epitomizes college football, especially historically with Ohio State, Michigan, and its close ties to Notre Dame -- at least in my opinion.

Texas to the Big 10 has an epic feel to it. But, it most likely won't happen.
The SEC has just as much history and plays better football. Have to admit, I would be surprised if UT went there though.

UT does match up better with Big Ten academically, but it would seem out of whack geographically with that 2-3 state jump.

I really dig the idea of having 4 16-team conferences. Adding in some form of a playoff system would be nice too.
As long as that playoff includes teams outside of those chosen 64...otherwise it would be more exclusive than even the current system.
I'd love a playoff though.

As powerful as Texas is in the country, you would think that they could have saved the BIG XII. It's like they want to go to the PAC TEN. For crying out loud, your Texas. Don't let two inferior conferences poach you. There must have been some bitter feelings from Nebraska. Oklahoma said that they would stick with Texas. For crying out loud, your Oklahoma.

I agree. Seeing the Big 12 go up in flames is bad for football and will stress the other sports. There is nothing like a baseball or softball game or track meet in Washington or Cal, when you are going to school in Austin or Norman.

Nebraska in the Big Ten makes more sense than watching a Southwest powers like Texas and Olklahoma play in the PAC TEN.

If Texas A&M does join the SEC like I think they will, watch out for West Virginia.

Former SEC boss, Roy Kramer, mentioned them in an ESPN interview.

Miami and Virginia Tech have stated they want to remain in the ACC.

ESPN reports that the SEC will not go after Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami, or Virginia Tech. The SEC doesn't really need Atlanta due to Georgia. Florida probably would object to FSU and they have north and central florida and South Carolina would probably object to Clemson.

That leaves West Virginia. That gets you into Ohio, Penn., and Northern Virginia/D.C. area. Take that BIG TEN.

If Texas A&M does join the SEC, watch out for West Virginia.

Two inferior conferences?:laugh1:
The Big Ten is far ahead of the Big 12 overall--100 years of tradition, better academics, great sports and MUCH, MUCH more money. And this is coming from me, a Big 12 fan.
The Pac 10 has a lot of those qualites too and a Pac-16 would be powerful.
And of course, the SEC rules as far as sports go. Nobody anywhere would say the Big 12 is better than the SEC.

Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska have just as good of traditions as Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State have. In fact, Ohio State is just about all the Big 10 has now, because Michigan is down right now. Penn State has to be respected for sure. However, after those three teams, the Big 10 is hurting. Wisconsin is pretty good, but after them??? Iowa has it's moments.

Football is the driving force here. The Pac Ten is reacting to the Big Ten's power play grab. They have always kind of had a complex about the Big 10, even though they win most of the Rose Bowls. I'm talking football, but the Big 12 was right up there in basketball. I'm not talking about $. I'm talking about the quality of football in the Big 12.

The Big 10 makes more money than anyone, but money wasn't the only motive for expanding. While I'm sure they want the money, the SEC winning the last four national titles has helped motivate them more to expand. They saw Ohio State get destroyed twice by Florida and LSU. They need more fire power in that league to compete with the SEC right now in football. Nebraska gives them a proven brand.

The Pac Ten has only been around since 1978. USC and UCLA have carried the conference for the most part. Other teams make runs at winning, but if if wasn't for USC's latest dynasty, the Pac Ten would have been hurting. The Pac Ten isn't a bad conference. Cal, Oregon, Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford... Those programs are good teams to play. Oregon will be making the trip into the South this year. Those teams are competitive, some more than others, given the year. Washington, Washington State, Arizona... You never know who is going to be good in the Pac Ten. The teams in the Pac Ten have been up and down. USC was the only consistent team. They were always good, but they have big trouble know.

The Big 12 was the second best conference in football for sure, better than the Pac 10 and better than the Big 10, at least that is the perception in SEC land.

Trust me Arkansas hasn't "sucked". Houston Nutt was successful there, and he had to compete with Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia. Arkansas is respected in the SEC, and when you look at how many times they have won the West, you will see why. McFadden and Jones were unleashed on the SEC for sure.

It wasn't that long ago that Arkansas beat Texas.

If Texas A&M comes into the SEC, the pipeline to Texas is going to get bigger for the SEC schools, including Arkansas.

By the way, Arkansas is supposed to be really good this year, but I don't think they have the defense to win the West in a defensive league. Plus, their coach is pass happy. They will be fun to watch, though.

It's gettin good now.

There is a very credible internet report stating that Texas A&M has the votes and will join the SEC, but that isn't all....

Orangebloods.com is reporting that SEC head honcho, Mike Slive, was indeed in College Station, and he met with the Oklahoma AD.

The SEC and Texas A&M are trying to bring Oklahoma to the SEC.

Hmmmm..

Don't underestimate the SEC.

This is getting good.

A&M looks like a done deal for sure.

I just saw a report from a Texas news station that quoted the Oklahoma running backs coach, via their QB coach. The message was and I quote:

"We are going to play football in the SEC West".

Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Take that!

Oh, yeah.

Vanderbilt is the school mentioned academically with Stanford, not Texas.

Edit:

Now, the Oklahoma QB coach denies saying that to the t.v. reporter.

Oklahoma's future is still uncertain.

I'm a Big 12 fan, but if you talk overall conference reputation--not just football, but football plus all sports, plus traditon, plus academics, plus attendance and viewership--I'll stick with the Big 10 being ahead of the Big 12. The Pac 10, btw, is really the Pac 8 plus the Az schools...and it has a ton of tradition. It's not quite the same as the Big 8 and SWC merger.

Maybe you can flip a coin in some circles, maybe not...an awful lot of people do not see the Big 12 as you do...especially outside of the Big 12 area.
I think I would go with you in saying they have been the second best conference (or 3rd at worst) the last couple of years.

I do agree that Nebraska fits fairly well in the Big 10 in many ways and yes, UT, OU, and Nebraska match up with just about anyone as far a strong football tradition.

Like him or not, Mack Brown has earned is ridiculous salary.

Think of Texas the 15-20 years before he got there and the last 10 years since has been there--not just on the football field in wins and losses but the absolute dollar value of that sports program. It has been a meteoric rise back to where they once were and beyond.

BTW, I've read neither he (obviously) or maybe even Dodd or the dirvers for Texas to the Pac 10. The UT President (Bill Powers) is the dude that wants it do bad. He's a Pac 10 guy. Jeesh.

I just read on Orangebloods.com that the Big 12 might get saved....well it would end up being the Big 10....ironic huh. The teams should be getting a raise in 2012, receiving 17 millions a year, with the option to pursue their own TV Networks......something that would not be allowable if they formed the Pac 16.

I wish Nebraska would have stayed and Iowa St. would have left....but it is what it is.

Now that two slots are available, maybe the Big 12 can add TCU and Houston, to once again become the Big 12.
