As powerful as Texas is in the country, you would think that they could have saved the BIG XII. It's like they want to go to the PAC TEN.

I find myself wondering if you feel foolish about making this post now... :D

I'd be careful about saying scratch Notre Dame.

If they ever want to win again they need to recruit Texas like they were doing in the 80's and early 90's. The last successful coach there was straight out of Texas for that very reason. They can always recruit Midwest and East coast Catholic kids but Texas kids are where they are lacking.

I'd agree the Big 12 would have to agree to a sweetheart deal for them that was basically what they gave Texas. Under that deal Notre Dame could STILL have it's own network which net even more than the estimated 3-5 mil per for Texas.

LSU is a real long shot to be sure.

Possibilities imho:
Air Force --- Nice service academy without being too far away, replaces Colorado in same market.
Arkansas --- they suffer without Texas/OU ties for recruiting and rivalries.
Rice --- Academic school and football fodder for the Big 12 South in a 14 team alignment plus insanely easy travel.

duh me.. forgot to add BYU.
If Utah goes to the Pac 10 then that school is ripe for the plucking.

Baylor, BYU and Notre Dame in the same conference would be great! lol.

Nebraska (Big Ten) and Colorado (Pac-10) are the 2 teams who bolted, Texas has been taking a wait and see how anyone wants to blame Texas is beyond me.

Because "We're Texas", and they're not...

While his SEC hate was clouding his statement he actually looked prophetic. Texas did want to save the Big 12. Texas was the single most profitable athletic program in college sports. They didn't need to make more money.

Nerbraska was 11th so they didn't either.

The Big 12 schools were hardly broke.

Nebraska wanted to bolt because it felt Texas got all the love and so they left.
I don't think anyone misses them.

And Colorado doesn't even offer half the sports much less pretend to be competitive. I visited Colorado and it is a lovely, lovely place but the Boulder campus was less impressive than even mid-level Texas Tech EXCEPT of course the big mountains a block away.

Mack Brown has won one NC. And only an incredible performance by Vince Young won THAT game. With all the talent Texas has over the last 10 years to have made it to the NC game only once tells me that mack brown ain't all that as a coach.

You've got a short memory, hoss... the Horns have made it to the NC game twice, in the last 5 years...

You must have forgotten that they were in it this past January...

If Mack really ain't all that as a coach, how do you explain nine consecutive seasons with 10 wins or more?? Nobody else in the nation has done that??

As always, you Horns Haters are a funny bunch... dumber than a box of rocks, but you're good for a laugh... you can only dream that your favorite team had the kind of success year in and year out that they do...

Which is, of course, why you Haters hate them... it's nothing more glamorous than simple jealousy...

Could TCU be on brink of joining Big 12?

That would be great... it's so logical, it probably won't happen...

Baylor (and Iowa St) just hit a grand slam. They went from the brink of possible non-BCS to doubling (or even almost tripling) their TV revenue from about 7 million to 15-20 million)...all while keeping thier current rival and BCS standing. Talk about winning the lotto.

Damn Texas for that...

Don't blame him, he actually thinks Notre Dame is a good program and that the Army-Navy game is good football.

Oooh, that's gonna leave a mark...

Archetectually, that school is beautiful. You'd be hard pressed to find a campus, IMO, that is more beautiful then that one. I really like all the stone work on that campus.

I like their campus too.

Let's face it, regardless of where any of us stands in this matter, CU-Bolder wanted to join UC-Berkley and the Cali mindset. They've always related well with them culturally and politcally. A place like A&M (and especially Baylor) would not fit in too well in the Pac 10.

No they would not. OU likewise IMO. Colorado was gone before last season was ever over. They as much as said so. They were talking about it when I was in Boulder September.

Yeah, I had heard the same thing regarding CU deciding to jump ship awhile back.

Tom Cella said this: "Behind the scenes four months ago, a deal was made with the University of Utah and Colorado to bring them in as the 11th and 12th members of an expanded PAC-10 conference. One caveat for Utah that was inserted into the tentative agreement however was a scenario in which Texas could be lured away from the Big 12. Conspiracy theorists would have you believe that the PAC-16 had actually been in the works for two years, beginning with Kevin Weiberg's handpicked replacement of Dan Beebe to run the Big 12. The truth is most likely somewhere in the middle."

Hey Pep, how's it going? I saw last night where it looks as if the ACC is going to pretty much stay intact. That's good news I think.
I think there's been a ton of good news lately. I wish all of the conferences had stayed intact, Notre Dame had joined the Big 10, then maybe these big conferences could pick out a few deserving "mid major" teams to add into the big 6 conferences. But Nebraska and Colorado had to go and screw that all up.

I cannot remember that second BCS NC game Texas was in. When was it?

Still say Mack Brown has done less with more. With the consistant amount of talent he has had and only one NC.

And the morons that keep looking down at the service academies are even dumber. YEs army has been bad for quite a while but look at what Navy has done; you might want to ask OSU and BC about Navy. And Air Force is no patsy either.

You don't remember them playing Alabama and Colt getting nailed and having to leave the game?

You'll never see me thumb my nose at a service academy.

Only one team each year can win the title. UT played in the game in 2005 and 2010 and could have been in two others. All these coaches can do is get their teams in position--there are about 7-9 teams that all recruit on about the same level, but only one can win the title. Alabama, LSU, USC, Ohio St, OU, UT, Mich, PSU, UGa, etc, etc, etc. Only one can win it all each year. Plus those recruiting rating services are a bit off anyway...otherwise ND would have won the title every year awhile back.
