Claiborne just bought his first home in the Dallas area. I know who his Realtor was. She told me he is in fantastic shape, and is working his rear end off because he wants to kill the bust label. He's very aware of what people are saying and has a chip on his shoulder to quiet his critics.

Don't know about anyone else, but that was encouraging to me.

I heard a similar story from someone connected with LSU in New Orleans.
Said he was up about 10 pounds and he has grown up a lot in 2 years.
Doesn't mean much because they a reason to be biased but it is bettee than hearing he's been back home hanging on bourbon street 24x7.

Sorry but that's not possible. He was given a salary cap bonus and that doesn't dry up and go away.
The bonus is divided over all 4(or 5 if that exists) years of the contract.
Cliaborne costs 2.6m pro-rated bonus money in 2015. His base is also 2.6m so the team would break even. ---2.6 off books and 2.6 in dead money.
We'd pay ~1m more this year.

Again you can't use OTC for anything involving time or future money.
You can however rely on basic math. He was given 10.2M in signing bonus divided evenly over 4 years.

I said his cap his would increase by about 1.2M this year if he is traded and that the 2015 cap hit would be Zero.

If he is traded or cut before June 1st, all of the prorated bonus money accelerates to the cap immediately; however, the base salary is gone (if traded) which offsets some of the accelerated bonus money.

Unless someone really over pays I can't see this happening. Despite the lack of production last season CB is the least of our worries right now. Why destroy your depth for a mid round pick that would likely just become depth?

Silly Hos, the Zone has already had a 14-page thread declaring Claiborne a bust!

What is the point of this article? ESPN is beyond horrible now with whom they have writing for them. There was no basis for this article to be written. We aren't trading someone when trading that player will give us a hit of almost 10mill in the cap.

Claiborne was a Rob Ryan pick. When we also look at the trade up, it really does look ugly on so many levels.

All great, Hos. But I was never really concerned about the kid's desire. We all know he wants to play here and he wants to do well.

My issue is him being able to know his technique and responsibilities, as well as regaining the confidence that he has clearly lost in the last year or so. Being in shape is great, but I want him to be dedicated in the mental and technical side of the game as well.

If he can, then he absolutely will shed that label.

We have been waiting many years for another candidate to fill Dexter Coakley's official "trade-bait" shoes. It looks like we have finally found our man!

If true this is great news.

Is his realtor related to the liquor store guy? (some won't get this)

Was told by someone else that he is in the top 5 hardest working guys on the team this off season. Has been at the film a lot. I think we'll see the guy we hoped when he was drafted.

As I said, he has a chip on his shoulder to quiet the critics.

I know. But I gave just enough hints so people know who the Realtor is, and that should be enough to encourage those who want to be. Those who don't won't be under any circumstance and I couldn't care less what they think.

I'll back this up.

The scuttlebutt from many of the local sources (sport talk radio insiders) is that Claiborne has gotten bigger and stronger and that a switch seems to have flipped with him. The whispers in the past were that his mental approach to the game was lacking with the implication that he was a bit soft. Those same people that said that in the past are now saying that they believe that something has changed with his mindset.

The other issue is that everyone is aware that he is a slow learner. The Cowboys insiders are saying that the Cowboys don't believe that he struggled due to being a bad fit in the Kiffin/Marinelli defense, but because he is a slow learner. He has to learn through reps and can't learn in the classroom like other players. The injuries have a bigger effect on his learning the new defense than it might with other players due to the lack of reps.

For those that live out of the area and don't listen to the local Dallas sports talk radio on the internet, the "insiders" give out a lot of this type of info that they don't put in writing.

No thanks, unless we get at least a 2nd rounder, which is doubtful. I value him higher than any other team possibly can because I believe we haven't seen his best days, he has talent and with a better front-seven can absolutely be a quality starting CB. Plus, due to his sub-par pay we may be able to lock him up long-term for a decent price (see: Scandrick, 6 yrs, 28.2m, 10m guaranteed).

He half talent, yes.
But he need to show it on the field. Good luck to Claiborne. I hope he can make this a breakout year. If not then he need to break out and go elsewhere in this rebuilding era for the Cowboys.

I hope this is true, I like the kid and want to see him do well. I still believe he is going to be a good player.

Thanks for passing this stuff along. It's the first I've heard of him being slow in the film room. And, while it's not great news, it's good background on the player. It's one thing to not be strong enough. It's a whole 'nother issue to not be prepared enough. I'm glad to hear an imaginary switch might have been flipped--and I always expected this player to put it all together eventually--but I'll hold out to see him do it in training camp, at least. As I always say re: Mo...when Dez and your other CBs have such good things to say about your physical ability, you know he's doing something right. That's got to show through on Sundays, eventually.

When you have a new defense scheme and chaos due to extreme injury issues, it's very difficult for young players to succeed in that situation.

If you could have put Claiborne in as Seattle's #2 CB in 2013, I'm fairly certain that he would have been much better than he was with the Cowboys. When young players are surrounded by quality veterans with expertise in the scheme they have a much better chance to succeed.

The Cowboys need to get to the point where they have stability within the scheme even if they don't have great players at all positions. It would be better for a rookie 3-tech DT to line up next to George Selvie in 2014 than it would have been to line up next to a rotation of Ware in and out of the lineup and a new player as Ware's backup every other week.

Why would we trade our future pro bowl corner for anything less than a first round draft pick?

Scandrick was fairly handily beaten out by Mike Jenkins at one point.
They found a place to play Scandrick inside and he took off as a nickel corner.
They finally gave him another shot outside and he showed he can now do that too.

Mo is a far better prospect than Scandrick and should be given the chance to develop.
Very few guys come in at CB and shine day 1.
I agree JT, just didn't understand the contract aspect in terms of locking him down before he can show/maintain an adequate level of play. I like Mo and have stucken up for him in other threads screaming to trade/cut him. I always felt Mike Jenkins was and still is the better cover corner. Like you said, Oscan found his place in the slot and was rewarded with a contract for good play but moreso for RKOG mentality;) and staying healthy. Jenkins was the forum whipping boy bc he made business decisions. I appreciated his talent for what he should've been. A press, man corner not expected to offer much support in run D. Still feel the team rewarded the wrong player and attitude was a pivotal role in his falling out with the team.
