Was told by someone else that he is in the top 5 hardest working guys on the team this off season. Has been at the film a lot. I think we'll see the guy we hoped when he was drafted.

As I said, he has a chip on his shoulder to quiet the critics.

That was said about Costa and others in the past. Does not matter sometimes how hard you work. Or how much film you watch. I hope he does live up to what we gave to get him but I have my doubts.

When you have a new defense scheme and chaos due to extreme injury issues, it's very difficult for young players to succeed in that situation.

If you could have put Claiborne in as Seattle's #2 CB in 2013, I'm fairly certain that he would have been much better than he was with the Cowboys. When young players are surrounded by quality veterans with expertise in the scheme they have a much better chance to succeed.

The Cowboys need to get to the point where they have stability within the scheme even if they don't have great players at all positions. It would be better for a rookie 3-tech DT to line up next to George Selvie in 2014 than it would have been to line up next to a rotation of Ware in and out of the lineup and a new player as Ware's backup every other week.

This is also precisely one of the biggest problems with the offensive line, and why going forward I think that people looking to make wholesale changes to both guards and Doug Free on the line have it wrong.

Costa was never going to be anything here in Dallas than a veteran backup/quality depth. I wouldn't have cut him for that reason, and without an apparent replacement plan in place (looking more like draft or late free agency now), but I trust that the team has a plan to address the offensive line depth at some point this offseason even if it's not exactly how we as fans wish it would happen with signing All-Pros at every backup position.

I know. But I gave just enough hints so people know who the Realtor is, and that should be enough to encourage those who want to be. Those who don't won't be under any circumstance and I couldn't care less what they think.

You know you don't have to convince me. I'm a fan of the young man and want him to succeed because it makes the Cowboys better.

I'm not a big Claiborne supporter as I think he's certainly been a bust so far. However, the Cowboys should give him 1 more year.......unless the trade is just too good to ignore.

Yes, OLine more than any unit needs stability.

I wish that the Cowboys would have given Parnell more playing time in 2013. I know most of the game were close, but they should have been able to find a series here and there to get him in the game.

Slowly integrating OLinemen is a good method, IMO. The Texans had good success working in young OLinemen prior to making them starters. They did it with 2012 4th round pick Ben Jones. They gave him a few series per game as a rookie and the starter ended up going out for the season. Jones was ready to step right in.

yeah it only took the texans how long to realize they needed a good O line? David Carr can count the bruises....

As you said, the cap hit alone basically kills this rumor.

Actually its not 9mil

Over the cap has a trade involving Claiborne at about a 1.2mil cap loss. And gain roughly 5mil against the cap in 2015. Dallas could easily trade Claiborne if they wanted to

Seems to me I told you the same thing about Doug Free and you had the exact same reaction. Didn't learn anything last time huh?

~wink~

I never said it about Costa, so I won't defend it.

Waste of keystrokes.........I seriously can't believe most of the crap espn slings. Blogs just make them worse, IMO.

Seriously. Why not just start a rumor that the Cowboys will trade him to Putin for a case of vodka and 100 pounds of caviar.

I said his cap his would increase by about 1.2M this year if he is traded and that the 2015 cap hit would be Zero.

If he is traded or cut before June 1st, all of the prorated bonus money accelerates to the cap immediately; however, the base salary is gone (if traded) which offsets some of the accelerated bonus money.

Actually you said there was no dead money.
But I understand the point you are trying to make.

I'll back this up.

The scuttlebutt from many of the local sources (sport talk radio insiders) is that Claiborne has gotten bigger and stronger and that a switch seems to have flipped with him. The whispers in the past were that his mental approach to the game was lacking with the implication that he was a bit soft. Those same people that said that in the past are now saying that they believe that something has changed with his mindset.

The other issue is that everyone is aware that he is a slow learner. The Cowboys insiders are saying that the Cowboys don't believe that he struggled due to being a bad fit in the Kiffin/Marinelli defense, but because he is a slow learner. He has to learn through reps and can't learn in the classroom like other players. The injuries have a bigger effect on his learning the new defense than it might with other players due to the lack of reps.

For those that live out of the area and don't listen to the local Dallas sports talk radio on the internet, the "insiders" give out a lot of this type of info that they don't put in writing.

sounds a lot like dez bryant to me.
if i place my trust anywhere it is in talent and claiborne has that in spades.

Agree.

As an old timer I know would say "he's just a punk kid with a grown man's job".

Not everybody can have the maturity of Sean Lee, Travis Frederick or Tyron Smith at that age. That's probably a big part of the Landry/Parcells 3 year rule.

He really needed to get stronger and to stay healthy and support the run and tackle better. His coverage skills were not awful.

This sounds like a "The NFL moved the draft back and we've done every kind of mock draft and theoretical trade scenario and still have time to kill until something actually happens" kind of story.

Cornering the market: If the Jets don't pick a cornerback in the first round, I wouldn't be surprised if they explore the possibility of acquiring a veteran, perhaps in a trade. There has been speculation about the Dallas Cowboys trying to deal the disappointing Morris Claiborne, the sixth overall pick in 2012, but they'd take a major cap hit. Right now, his cap charge is $4.4 million, but it would explode to $9.6 million if they trade him, counting the bonus acceleration. The Cowboys would have to receive an offer they can't refuse to absorb that kind of hit.
---

From ESPN NY writer Rich Cimini. Sounds like pure speculation to fill an article to me, but this is not the first time we have heard about Rex Ryan linked to Claiborne.

That cap hit alone makes it crazy to even think of.

This looks like one of those "grasping at straws" type of articles to create buzz that never materializes, but for a couple of 1st (this year and next years) might just be the best return will ever get for that investment.
