I certainly wouldn't mind a head coach who is 95-77-0 lifetime, 5-4 in the post season and has a Superbowl Ring. I think his teams have overachieved to even be mediocre the last 2-3 years given their talent level.

But no way would Gruden work for Jerry. He couldn't get out from Al Davis fast enough. And Gruden and TO? Yeah, that would be a disaster.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. The only problem I have with Gruden is he likes old players a little much. Not a problem here becuse the roster is set.

I really like the fact that football is his life. He works around the clock. Wade seems to treat it as a hobby.

GM Bruce Allen also canned.

Gotta say that I'm a bit shocked by that; I guess that late season meltdown was the crushing blow.

Uhh...what? Here are his stats for the last 3 years:

Pass-Run (%Pass)
562-451 (55%)
490-449 (52%)
535-404 (57%)

Hell, I wouldn't mind him passing even more, but that's about optimal ratio right there.

no thanks...we do that now. like i said..gruden gives up on the run even if it is working. i think we have the players to play power football like the giants and panthers. we need more running IMO.

and those stats don't say whether those passes were long or short or anything...passing can be conservative as well if you are dink and dunking it. not saying i know either way if he is conservative but my co-worker is a bucs fan and has been calling for his head for a while.

How many people will call for him to be here?

Never mind the so-so record in Tampa... He scowls and cusses and stuff.

I'll pass.

I've been clamoring to see Tony Romo in a WCO for awhile now. That quick release and accuracy? Deadly.

The city that will be hosting the Super Bowl in 16 days suddenly is in the market for a new head coach.

According to Adam Schefter of NFLN, the Buccaneers have fired head coach Jon Gruden.

(Maybe, in hindsight, he should have taken the Tennessee job.)

There had been some quiet speculation that something could happen in Tampa, but with nearly three weeks since the last game Gruden had seemed safe.

The timing of the move makes us wonder whether the Bucs quietly have lined up a successor, with speculation sure to center on a guy who took two weeks off after unexpectedly being fired two weeks and three days ago, former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.

Such a move would violate the Rooney Rule, which requires at least one minority candidate to be interviewed for each head-coaching vacancy. But if everyone involved is appropriately discreet, no one would have to know that someone like Shanahan already was lined up for the job.

It remains to be seen whether G.M. Bruce Allen stays or goes, since he was hired after Gruden arrived.

More to come, undoubtedly.

Jon Gruden and Mike Shanahan are better head coaches than Wade Philips.

Its his passing schemes.

He doesn't take many shots down field.

You must not have watched a lot of Gruden.

He is captain dink and dunk.

i don't dislike the WCo for romo or in general. i just want us to rely more on the running game instead of being pass first. gruden passes too much IMO and doesn't give the run a chance...similar to reid IMO. i just think we have the abillity to play giants/panthers style ball and run more. that would take more pressure off of romo for slants/corssing patterns and make the PA more effective.

It's called a West Coast Offense. Romo isn't a donwfield passer. He's a short and intermediate timing route passer.

Look, we have a coach who is 60-something and has never won a playoff game. Just about any name coach is going to be pretty desirable to a lot of fans. And I think understandably so.
It's more fun to change coaches every few years though! Changing up the system, total lack of continuity, sense of uncertainty...now that m'boy is how we build ourselves a championship team!!

Broaddus on Gruden:

-- Worked with him at Philly when he was QB coach and Broaddus scouted for them.

-- Very hard working and innovative, but goes through QBs like crazy. Can't make up his mind on them, and not the best at developing them. Loved Bobby Hoying in Philly.

-- Is one of those guys that people get tired of in about three years. Kind of an odd bird, and all the energy and the "attaboys" are followed by complaining and even backstabbing. (Not said with malice, but matter-of-factly.)

-- Thinks Shanahan would be a better choice here because he'd be better at developing Romo.

Now Mosley comes on after making some calls to Valley Ranch and says we let Garrett go. Says if RJ goes, this makes Valley Ranch think hard about Shanahan.
