That is why I always buy used. The problems have likely been sorted out. I know the tranny problem is a computer problem. But I bought a 4 year 80 k warranty with the vehicle. I was thinking a little ahead in that department...

Great idea.

Father upgraded his SRT to the 'hawk last year.
Still rocking mine.

Loved the original SRT-8's. Back when I had my Lightning they were a fun competition at the track and maybe out on an empty highway.
* I had an old& tired( former rural route mail delivery 4 door) Jeep Cherokee 4x4,of about a 1977 vintage, that we'd load up with cases of beer& head to the river bottoms , that tired ol' in-line 6 cylinder would chug on thru with 7 or more like minded enthusiastic river running beer swilling idiots in it,sometimes,,:lmao:

* Man, that 'thing' had like 3 different vacuum advance type of modulators mounted up under it along the power train,as it was shifted/ engaged by "air" instead of a manual linkage type of casing-liner shift/ engagement assembly,,, major pita once those rubber vacuum hose lines started deteriorating/ brush limbs getting up under thereo_O

Ya,know? Earlier on, I'd owned a big ol' real deal of solid steel Jap manufactured Nissan " patrol" , I believe it was of either 1964 ,1966 or 1968 ,,I'm thinking 66,,, it was competitively comparable ( if not superior, to the limey land Rover in design & function of the same time period) they only made, either in total or imported into the U.S. a shade over 600 vehicles. ( I can't honesty recall that far back,as it was kinda' that fuzzy span of life happenings,,, I do know that a urianium miner up in Utah was the first owner, I was like the 4th or 5th one,,, as parts were scarce to non-existent ,even in Japan, so, most dudes moved on away from it,,,, it was a pretty cool working unit though:starspin::thumbup::starspin:

Still loving my Jeep. Trouble-free so far. They use salt on the roads in the winter. so I will be getting oil guard done and already bought the weather tech floor liners to keep the salt stains off the carpet...

My wife is driving a 2004 4Runner with 250,000+ miles on it. Nothing wrong with it, except the gas mileage ~21 mpg (our other vehicle is a 2019 4Runner which only gets 19 mpg, lol).

We’re likely looking at a Tesla Model Y next year.

Toyotas maintain their value very well, but it's a lot of money for a vehicle that rots out faster than a sedan. The salt just gets into places under the bed, such as behind the wheel wells, and it's impossible to wash it out, so it just sits there and rots the metal. Undercoating doesn't help much.
Toyota’s are junk nowadays. You are correct, they rot out from the bottom up faster than any vehicle by far. Last I looked they were ranked 17th or 18th in reliability whereas years ago they were regulalrly in the top 3. I’ll never buy another one. Dodge Ram for me right now.

I wasn't aware that their reliability had dropped off. Strange that they still have such high resale value. I guess they're getting by on their reputation from 20 years ago...........Hmm, sounds like a certain football team.

It’s because it’s not true (supposed low ranking).

That said, I have heard problems with their trucks having problems in the northeast due to all the salt on the road.

All trucks have problems with salt rotting the beds out up here. It gets sprayed up into the wheel wells, where it stays forever, eating the metal. You'd think they'd come up with some type of rubber or plastic seal to block the road spray from getting up there, but for some reason they don't seem to be worried about it.

I broke down and bought a new vehicle this week. I had been driving a 2 door ATS coupe, but just needed something bigger to fit my golf clubs, pushcart, etc.

After test driving, 5 different ones ended up getting a 2020 Cadillac XT4. So far so good!

Some how, I ended up finding a 2019 "used" Ranger pickup. It's loaded only had 6,500 miles on it. The dealership said a Ford executive was driving it. I suppose that's how you can find a used one the of the same year with only 6,500 miles lol.

So far, I'm very happy with it.

Those are the best vehicles to get, dealer demos. I just got a 2020 Bighorn Ram 4x4 and fully loaded. If I bought brand new, it would have been around 75K but the price was knocked down 8K because it had 4400 miles on it........a dealer demo.

Same here. The Ranger was list for $44k, but because it had 6,500 miles. I got it for a hair over $37k. Even better is I got it with Ford's certified pre-owned warranty. So instead of 3 years or 36k miles bumper to bumper and 5 years 50k mile drive terrain warranty. I got a 4 year bumper to bumper and 7 year 100,000k mile warranty with it. That made the deal just that much better!

Not to mention, I got 1.99% financing.

The prices on trucks are getting insane. I've seen some that cost almost as much as I paid for my house. There's no reason, other than demand and the fact that people are willing to pay it, that they should cost so much.

The best I can figure is all the technology that is in them now compared to what used to be. Of course, as we know. The technology doesn't actually cost that much. It's basically an in car iPad of sort. A Roku with a 9" LCD screen.

They clearly do not need to cost that much, but trucks are so popular now. Even up here in the Tri-State area, trucks are becoming more popular even with women. Never quite figured out why they are so popular with women, but hey. I like trucks, so I suppose they can too. Though, I like them for their utilitarian usage. I don't know a lot of women who are interested in hauling large and/or heavy items around, yet they own one anyway.

I've been driving Audi's for the last several years, but my lease is up in January. I was thinking about switching back to a truck. (that's all I used to drive before I moved to NY area)

I wanted to buy a 2 year old mid-sized truck, (why are trucks so much more expensive than they used to be??!?!?) but I'm really liking the new Rangers better than the others, but damnit. 2019 is there first year back / mid-sized. If I go Ranger, it will have to be a new one. :(

It's either that, or something else and I'm not as hot for the other brands / models.

1st world problems! :D

anyhow, congrats on the new vehicle!
The ranger is also pretty much a rebranded euro model brought back over. Reviews say it's already showing age. I've not driven one so I can't really say but something to think about. In the end get what you like anyway.

But you have to spend $50k n up just to get blind spot sensor. It's crazy. I'll keep me 300S.
