The Cowboys are interested in free agent WR/KR Jacoby Jones, but currently do not have the cap space to make an offer.

Terence Newman's $6 million salary won't come off books until June 1, leaving the team with about $2.14 million in cap space in the meantime. This also means that the Cowboys will be unable to sign their 2012 rookie class until next month. If signed, Jones would be favored to beat out rookie Danny Coale for Dallas' vacant No. 3 wide receiver job. He'd also chip in on returns.

The thread title is a little misleading. It sounded like Jacoby Jones was telling people that Newman's contract is holding up the deal. We might be interested, but if I was him, I wouldn't sit around waiting either if a solid deal came along.

Thanks Goodell and co. for that bogus 10 million dollar penalty.

I don't necessarily believe they're interested in this kid . As others have pointed out, he simply isn't that good. Puts the ball on the ground on returns, and runs very sloppy routes. PASS....................

Yeah, he seems like a guy that you'd rather see what you have on your roster before picking him up.

I don't see much to get excited about...I'd rather see what our guys that we already have can do

Interesting that Charean Williams just kind of threw that out there. It makes you wonder if she has heard something out at Valley Ranch...

The Texans have never had a 2 or 3 WR and he couldn't make the cut. Why would we want him?

This guys has no clue about what he writes. We are able to sign all our draft picks without problem.

Why ? Because pf the Rule of 51 and because the new CBA says that the draft picks salary is going to be only the minimum salary for the first year of a contract. Wich is around 312k/anno as i remember for each pick.

We will sign a vet receiver before the season to fill in when Bryant or Austin go down. Not necessarily to play the slot.... Which I think Cole and even Beasely have a shot at that starting position. Ogletree shouldnt be on this team much longer. Fingers crossed.

I consider this a much better veteran WR option than Jabar Gaffney, mainly due to their ages, but that is just me.

I agree.
I think Jones is still in his prime period with some potential yet unrealized- if he can work on the concentration/hands. But I've seen him make some huge plays, too. His playmaking ceiling is much higher than Gaffney's.

For anyone unfamiliar with Jones, think GB Randall Cobb or earlier Antwaan Randel-El.
He's a speed demon who's flashed real potential in some games at WR and is always a threat on returns.

Considering JJ can do more than tie up a WR spot, I concur. I like his return abilities. Now if he can just hold on to the dang ball. :p:

Im all for signing JJ.

Not only for his pretty decent abilty as a 3 WR, bet because he is very good returner and we wouldnt have to worry about Dez, Claibourne, whomever getting hurt on special teams.

Yeah Hos I agree and one thing that we can both agree on is that he'll give us a real threat in the return game.

Don't look now...

but it appears Newman has finally found a way to keep a WR from getting the ball, w/o even having to be in a game!

He really IS a shutdown DB.

Lol.

j/k
