Newman contract holding up Cowboys' spending? interest in Jacoby Jones?

I've watched a decent amount of games where Jacoby Jones played and I'm not impressed. Seems to make a lot of mistakes. Does have some great agility and speed in the return game but he's coughed the ball up. From a WR standpoint, in my opinion, it'd be like cutting Kevin Ogletree to pick up...Kevin Olgetree.

Don't look now...

but it appears Newman has finally found a way to keep a WR from getting the ball, w/o even having to be in a game!

He really IS a shutdown DB.

Lol.

j/k
:laugh1:

How is this holding up signing any of our draft picks when the rookie pool is already set aside?

Im all for signing JJ.

Not only for his pretty decent abilty as a 3 WR, bet because he is very good returner and we wouldnt have to worry about Dez, Claibourne, whomever getting hurt on special teams.

No thanks. I live in Houston and believe me, the fans down here were happy to see this idiot go. Not just for this play, but it was the last straw for many:

I dont want this guy b/c of his return ability, this guy was the main cause of his team not making the AFC Title game last yr. You don't field punts inside of the 10 & if you do you had better catch it.

This guys has no clue about what he writes. We are able to sign all our draft picks without problem.

Why ? Because pf the Rule of 51 and because the new CBA says that the draft picks salary is going to be only the minimum salary for the first year of a contract. Wich is around 312k/anno as i remember for each pick.

And arnt rookies already at mini camps? Don't they need to be signed before participating? Or am I misinformed about something?

I agree.
I think Jones is still in his prime period with some potential yet unrealized- if he can work on the concentration/hands. But I've seen him make some huge plays, too. His playmaking ceiling is much higher than Gaffney's.

For anyone unfamiliar with Jones, think GB Randall Cobb or earlier Antwaan Randel-El.
He's a speed demon who's flashed real potential in some games at WR and is always a threat on returns.

This is a joke, right? Houston fans were screaming for their team to let Jones go. LOL potential. LOL playmaking. There is a reason why a WR-neady team like the Texans released Jones.

Yeap couldn't agree more, he's young and can turn his career around and can be our returner, can't risk Claiborne or Dez back there, don't get me wrong they are playmakers but can be seen on punts maybe in critical parts of game we need them on D and on offense and this guy can come in And be a decent returner, he's out to prove himself.

Jacoby Jones best season was 562 yds in 2010 playing with a good QB and with defenses focused on Andre Johnson. Patrick Crayton has had better seasons. Why do people think he is so good?

Just
Say
No

we likely have 4 equal to better options in Radway, Holmes, Coale and Tree....of course, if he is brought in to do nothing else but keep Dez and Mo away from the return game, then so be it...I am not enamored with this guy's return game but I am MUCH more upset in thinking about Dez/Mo returning kicks rather than focus on what they are supposed to be doing....and, keep Mo on the defensive side of the ball as well...

I live in Houston and I have heard all the rumblings about Jones fro years. He is not a Garrett type player Kubiak liked Jones a lot (why he got more chances than he should have) he has potential the issue is he does not put in the work to tap the potential.

He is a coach killer because he flashes Brilliance at times and looks like he is going to turn the corner and then disappears.

Do not want the guy

This makes me kind of upset because I had hopes that Danny Coale would be the WR3.

Yeh, what ever happened to last weeks flavor, Andre Holmes.

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that we can't afford to sign him. He's an awful player and it'll give us a chance to look at our other options.

Pretty sure we don't have to fit under the cap until some later point in time.

Bring him in, let him compete and if he can't beat someone out, cut him.

Depends on the money to me, if he wants a big enough contract that would hurt us if we cut him then let him go to someone else.
