Newman contract holding up Cowboys' spending? interest in Jacoby Jones?

Gaffney was quickly scooped up by the Patriots. Jones is being wooed by Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens. These players everyone says aren't better than what we have are being pursued by organizations and front offices much, much better and more successful than the Cowboys. These organizations also wouldn't touch Kevin Ogletree with a 100 foot pole when he was on the open market.

The smart people know better than the dumb people.

We resigned Ogletree because we were "scared" of the Giants signing him.:banghead:

I already put in my 2 cents on a massive NO THANKS to Jacoby but if I was going to take a chance on a guy who might improve I'd go after Jarrett Dillard. Just cut by Jags. The guy was a stud at Rice and could catch anything. He is drafted by the no man land for WRs, the Jags and can't do much. Maybe with better talent and QB he can flourish as a 4th guy. I'd much rather do this and then realize he isn't good and cut him than have a guy like Jacoby who would look athletic in camp and then lose a game or 2 for us on some botched play.

Dillard was on the roster bubble even before Jacksonville brought aboard Laurent Robinson, Lee Evans and Justin Blackmon, so his release is hardly a surprise. The 2009 fifth-round pick was given a chance to start down the stretch last season, but responded by catching more than three passes just twice. Dillard finished the year with 29 grabs for 292 yards and a score after missing all of 2010 with a toe injury. His NFL future is dim.

I could see bringing in Jones on a vet min contract with no bonus and have him compete for a job but nothing more. No guarantees but I doubt he'd accept that.

Same thing, but maybe build some incentive clauses into the contract to lure him in.

I see no problem with letting Jones compete against Dallas' unproven group of backups. Dallas brought back Ogletree for the same reason it would bring in Jones, the Cowboys don't know if any of the other guys will be even worthy of inserting into a regular-season game at receiver.

Or maybe, just maybe, the Ravens are in more desperate shape at WR than we are, and therefore their standards are lower for who they bring in to fight for a spot. They have absolutely nothing behind Smith and Boldin: http://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/depthchart/BAL

Or maybe they just want to thank him for the huge help he gave the Ravens in the playoff game.
