Newman contract holding up Cowboys' spending? interest in Jacoby Jones?

There is no report that Dallas has any interest in Jacoby Jones. Charean Williams is implying that if they did not have Newman's $6 million cap relief, then they could go and sign a veteran free agent like Jacoby Jones. It's not very good beat reporting, in my opinion. The bigger issue is that the Cowboys have enough money to sign their rookie class except for Claiborne. They will have enough once the June 1 Newman relief comes in.

If the Cowboys can get him on a cost effective contract, this is pretty much a no brainer. Other than Dez our return game is garbage, and he'll be better than the current guy penciled in at #3 WR the first day he puts on a helmet at Valley Ranch.

Don't see any reason to rush out and sign JJ. It's early May & we seem have some decent young WRs, one of whom might be able to handle return game w/o bringing in some questions vet player. Let's see what some of the younger WRs can do for us; that's what OTAs & TC is all about. Heck, maybe the Chargers have a return guy they like but don't need. Norv helped us before by giving us Robinson's name; that turned out pretty good for us.

BTW: Certainly don't want use Claiborne or Bryant in return game. Let's give Claiborne time to learn his big job in the NFL - CB position; same goes for Bryant who entering his 3rd year.

I consider this a much better veteran WR option than Jabar Gaffney, mainly due to their ages, but that is just me.

Jones reminds me a lot of Patrick Crayton, good receivers who always come up small when it matters. He's always good for a big drop, muffed punt or fumble.

Wait what? When has Jacoby Jones ever been good? You mean good at being inconsistent right?

People can knock Jones all they want .. the bottom line is he's still 1000X the returner Ogletree is and 500X the wide receiver. There's a reason why Ogletree is the first name out of the mouth of both Stephen and Garrett when asked about the #3 WR role. He's considered "next in line" for the job.

Or else there's a context that's missing prior to those questions being asked. Or else there's no particularly relevant context, but the HC was starting with the most senior guy and working from there.

Either way, I don't think we're interested in Jacoby Jones. Thankfully. We've got better prospects familiar with the system on the roster.

No rush to sign anybody. There will be better in the street than Jacoby Jones in the summer.

But how many X better????

I put this in the Jacoby thread the other day...we want no part of this guy. He is exactly the type of player that leads to the heartache of the past years.

Being in Houston for his tenure..before my move...he is a walking turnover waiting to happen. I can't explain how patient the Texans were with him. He would mix great returns with muffed punts(see Ravens playoff loss) and fumbled kick offs. Then he would look to have a good game at WR when he got his shot and would be targeted 11 times for only 1 catch. He runs horrible routes and and isn't a guy who goes for the ball. The big joke was that he always looked awesomely athletic breaking off his routes early.

It saddens me that we used to dump our garbage on Houston (Jaques Reeves), and now we are accepting their garbage. JJ is WORSE than anyone else we can get. I would rather get an UDFA than JJ. He's already PROVEN he sucks. Living in Houston and seeing all their games - hell no to JJ.

We're not accepting their garbage. We just have some posters who want it.

I would love jacoby in the fold but 0% chance he waits until June 1 to sign with us. Hell get picked up soon

Yeah, he seems like a guy that you'd rather see what you have on your roster before picking him up.

Roll with what we have, I say. Can't wait to see what the kid from Va Tech can add to the offense!

Not saying we are interested in Jacoby Jones or are going to sign him. But I do see us signing a vet sometime this summer. This vet will technically be our "4th" receiver... since we seem very keen on getting a receiver to play the slot (Coale, and Beasely maybe). We need a vet in the event that Bryant or Austin goes down again. I do not ever want to see Ogletree starting for this team due to injury of other key players. In fact I don't even want him on the roster since he has done absolutely nothing to solidify a position on the team other than show up.

There is no way we go into the season with Ogletree starting at the 3rd receiver spot.

Houston's garbage is much better than Garrett's pet cat Ogletree.

LOL at rotoworld putting the Fort Worth-Telegraph link under "Fantasy Football Breaking News". The season is still over three months away and this is "breaking news".

Quick! All youse fantasy football team managers, start scrambling to put your 2012 rosters together months ahead of time! This is breaking news!

Gaffney was quickly scooped up by the Patriots. Jones is being wooed by Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens. These players everyone says aren't better than what we have are being pursued by organizations and front offices much, much better and more successful than the Cowboys. These organizations also wouldn't touch Kevin Ogletree with a 100 foot pole when he was on the open market.

The smart people know better than the dumb people.

I love that everyone is starting to say that Ogletree is Garrett's pet haha. I liked one guys explanation saying that the only reason Ogletree could possibly still be on this team if because he has incriminating photographers of Garrett...
