Newman - how many have faith?

I have complete faith in Newman..... When he's on the field. It's obvious that he can't stay healthy for more than a few games. If the injury problem is going to cause him to miss some games this year, it's going to be tough for the Secondary. We need to go out and get a couple veteran CB's. I trust Scandrick enough to help hold things together, but I'm really nervous about Jenkins due to lack of playing time. Coaches have a lot of confidence in these guys now that Anthony Henry is gone.

But but but.. You're an idiot because he played 4 straight seasons, thats right 65 straight games.

Newman doesn't have an injury problem, you're dumb. j/k lol

I'm completely aware of that. Though the past two seasons it's been a little bit of a problem hasn't it? Enough of a problem to make somewhat of a significant impact.

Definitely. Especially when you pay a guy like he's a top 5 corner.

Newman's injuries would bother me if he wasn't a work-out warrior - but he's the hardest worker on our team now that Owens is gone.

I'm just concerned, he just hit 30 - and his injuries are of the nagging variety (groins and foot injuries are very painful and difficult to come back from).

I recall him shutting Steve Smith down twice.

Steve Smith, TO, Santana Moss, Plexi-Glass Burress, and somebody else. It might have been Torry Holt or Marvin Harrison. That was a really cool sig..

Santana has gotten the best of Newman his fair share of times too.

Owens used to absolutely own Newman, so did Randy Moss - but that was when he was young.

I believe it was Harrison when we knocked them off from being undefeated. That was a great win.

Yeah, someone got a screen shot of it from Hard Knocks. I hope they keep that locker when they move to the new stadium. History.... Fires me up every time. Especially knowing it came from Woody, the consummate professional.

I'd make a wager against that but I don't bet.

That picture is one of two. He's only scored 2 TDs, one was the gift against the Jets. The other was a punt return against the Lions, I'm guessing this was against Detroit.

It'd be awesome if we could actually get opinions of Newman from front office types - it'd settle the debate once and for all.

He wasn't drafted to score TDs.

He was drafted to cover opposing WRs. He does that pretty well. When healthy.

Other than the game last yr when Newman was playign despite needing surgery, name one time please.

2004, when we got destroyed by Philly 49-21. Owens had a career day, Newman had the opposite.

Same year, against Minny in the season opener. One of Newman's worst games as a pro.

You're cracking me up with your fellatious support.

Every CB gets burnt once in a while. I can name times Champ Baily got beat. I can name times Asomugha got beat. It happens. Newman is still a top CB.http://www.raiders.com/Team/PlayerBio.aspx?id=224

While I generally agree with your premise in this thread, these 2 examples are completely wrong.

Moss caught 2 TDs against Newman in that season opener, both were very short, like 2 and 4 yards. Moss didn't have a huge day as a whole.

TO didn't have any huge plays against Newman in that Monday nighter, either. It was the rest of the secondary that was abused.

Yeah, Newman does good against top flight receivers, when healthy. He struggles against the James Thrashes and Mike Williams' of the world though. .

This year, there is gonna be a ton of pressure on the CBs, because Wade is going to be playing plenty of man. I don't expect a lot of confusion in the back-field and soft-zone anymore. Remember, we played a lot of zone, especially during the era of Parcells.

If Newman is healthy, I expect the INTs to come.

Given the amount of pressure we put on the QB, you'd expect our secondary to have impressive turnover numbers.

Owens did have a big game that night, though I dont recall who was guarding him on any of his 3 tds...I seriously doubt it was Newman on all 3

As for Moss, I responded to you (or someone's) nonsense about him in that 2004 game either in this thread or another one and amazingly you (or whoever it was) didnt reply. Moss caught 4 passes for 27yds. He caught 2 tds inside the 3 yd line, both after blatantly pushing off. If thats as bad as it gets you really have nothing to go on.
