Tony Dungy just mentioned Newman saying he knows his responsibilities yet he just does not follow the script.

Dungy also said if Dallas loses this weekend, they are finished.

Well, if Dungy says they are finished if they lose, and said this week they have no chance, pretty sure the Cowboys won't bother making the drive over to Lousyanna. What is the point?

(Dungy has never been wrong. Ever.)

Did you ever watch the Cowboys before Newman was here? He's hardly a chump. He may not be one of the top CBs in the league any more (seems to be playing worse than he did the last 2 years, minus a couple of good picks), but he's no chump. He's as good as any CB the Saints, Patriots, Colts, or Vikings have. Every corner will give up some catches. For some reason he isn't always very aggressive and I don't think he trusts the safeties. I think just about any team in the league would make Newman a starter.

:lmao2: There is a unique Newman apology. Newman apologists are starting to dig deep to come up with excuses.

I don't think the safeties trust Newman. I don't think the coaches trust Newman.

The only reason Newman is playing is because his paycheck is so ridiculously high. Would look like real "fools" paying some chump (coach hitter) $8 mil/yr to sit the bench even though he can't play.

He also thinks Tebow will be a good pro quarterback. They will have to win out if they lose though.

Newman absolutely stinks! He is a chump.

The same could be said about a few posters here, but I would never do that.;)

I notice everyone who responded to the quote by Dungy addressed his prediction and not his criticism of Newman's technique. Who cares about his prediction?

Dungy, due to his work and development of the TB D, has a stellar resume as a defensive coach and his comments about Newman being "lazy" and giving the free release to the receiver are what's telling.

Somebody said the safety couldn't get over. Maybe if Newman had fulfilled his responsibility and correctly jammed the receiver as Dungy indicated was necessary for that type coverage the receiver wouldn't have been so far downfield and the safety could have successfully maintained his coverage responsibility?

Same thing with the play that preceded the "Campo incident." Newman dropped his responsibility, hence the conversion.

And his reaction to Campo tells me what I need to know about his attitude. "I blow the coverage but don't say jack to me."

More often than not, he is simply out of position. Whether that's due to laziness, as Dungy alluded to, or the injuries slowing him down, all I know is when it's third and long, teams go at him. Successfully.
