But, why should we care about this?

As if things aren't said to regular sized news anchors on a regular basis. Should they all start whining about mean letters they receive on air? Clearly her skin isn't as thick as she thinks it is.

There isn't an ounce of sympathy in my body for overweight people who have complete control of their body. If it is because of a condition, then fine. If it isn't then shame on you.

I can't decipher the point you are making here. Why should you care about someone emailing someone else and bashing them for being fat and on air?

If that is your point, the only reason you should care is because it is morons like that who pollute the world with ignorance. Ignorance that someone else will adopt and be as ignorant.

I mean we have enough ignorance in this world. I saw a poll the other day that I cannot talk about here that just blew me away that people think that way.

While I would never write an email to a stranger to state my opinion about obesity issue, I saw nothing really disrespectful or bullying with that email and if she really had thick skin, she wouldn't even bother with it, but she doesn't and it got to her, even though she stated it didn't.

You say you can't decipher the point I am making yet you go on to decipher it.

You're being extremely dramatic. If you think that is bashing you need to toughen up man. It was actually a civil e-mail. Was it misguided? Yes.

Do you think other news anchors never get mean emails? They get ones that are far worse than that. The world isn't always some rosy place. There will always be mean people in it. The message here is: if someone is mean, cry about it and try to make people feel bad for you!

Bottom line is we shouldn't spread ignorance but we should spread weakness. Got it.

You have GOT to be kidding me. This is the "bullying" video I heard about the other day on the news? That was "bullying"? Give me a freaking break.

PC has gone absolutely berzerk. You can't be critical of anyone anymore, or even try to give constructive criticism.

And lady, you claim to have thick skin? That's just embarrassing.

What a joke. There's a lot of what is wrong with this country in that video.

So expressing your point of view is no longer necessary? Why are there interventions for alcholics and drug users? Because people can be self destructive. Obesity is no different. And it typically results in the children of obese people having an unhealthy view on diet as well.

Seems out of place here is all. Would this guy walk up to a fat cop on the street, out of the blue, and say the same thing? I mean, why shouldn't he express his opinion, right? And the cop is a "public" figure after all and should be "setting an example", right?

It kind of is.

Would it be acceptable for a news person to be on air smoking a cigarette? No.

How about sitting up there drinking a margarita?

Obesity seems to be a taboo topic. But it is the leading cause of preventable death in America. We can judge everyone else and what they do, just don't ever try to tell an overweight person that they are unhealthy and they are setting a bad example.

I personally don't think the email that was sent was harsh or in any way bullying. The viewer expressed an opinion, since when did that become being a bully?

Do I think she has a right to be on air? Absolutely. Do I think she is living a healthy life style...no.
I think the viewer should have minded their own business and make efforts to handle their own problems. I don't care if it is obesity, smoking, drinking or whatever. What makes them think they have the right to judge other people's life choices when it has no bearing on their own life. As for setting a bad example, it is not the news anchor's place to live her life to suit others. If her lifestyle is legal and moral, it should be no concern of John Q. Public, no concern whatsoever.

And what better way to foment such a concept than to air it?

I don't care either way about what she did, but if you want people to learn that acting like an *** doesn't work, ignore them and that will let them know that their voice isn't all that meaningful. As it stands with this, 'you too can alter the course of a live TV show by sending in abusive comments and watching someone defend themselves live', you've essentially provided them with a platform.

Junk mail is junk mail, put it in the trash bin.

Ultimately, ratings will dictate the future of this person. If the public decides that they no longer want to view a women of her size, then she will be gone. If they decide that they like her regardless, then she will continue to be on the air.

It's really as simple as that.

The viewer has the right to state his views to the station and the woman has a right to make a living as best she can.

I was having trouble, I'm just damn good at troubleshooting. Hence, why I work in the field I do. ;)

I'm being dramatic? Ha! I'm just stating what I believe to be unethical behavior.

I know they get emails like this and no it doesn't mean cry about it. It means people shouldn't have to tolerate direct attacks on their being. Hell, women on social media can get bombarded with idiot men always harassing them.

Or she drops dead of a heart attack. A very real possibility.

She's in the entertainment business. She's on TV. She chose to be in front of X many of people. Some of those people have opinions on what they want to see on TV. This one individual clearly stated that he believed she was sending the wrong message out by her being overweight.

How many movie stars get criticized for how they look or act? Athletes? You name it. What makes her any different and above this criticism?

I bet there are many complaints filed against officers that are out of shape or obese. Just not to their face. Or maybe to their face, who knows.

Fat people are a giant issue. They are costing us billions every year. It has nothing to do with tolerance. It has to do with them eating away our limited resources through their bad behavior. Medical costs and food costs are dramatically effected by fat people. Heck, dragging their fat Jabba the Hut bodies around town in a car uses more fuel.

this is the most idiotic thing I have read today.

the same can be said for those that live a very active lifestyle. weight lifters are intentionally expanding their muscle content, muscle needs an increase in calories. by your logic, people that intentionally build muscle are costing us billions every year.

Phelps was said to consume 10k calories a day, easily as much as what obese people consume. Is his life style a huge issue costing us money?

The guy condemned her and basically said if she is going to be fat, she shouldn't be on the air.

That is not what he said. I don't think I'd ever do that but then I don't send emails to people I don't know. She is butt hurt over someone telling her the truth and it wasn't done in a mean spirited way. I understand her reaction but it isn't completely healthy anyway. She should have avoided it IMO. Or she could have said, 'You know what you're right. I am overweight and I realize that without your input. I'm working on it and appreciate your concern. Thanks for sharing.'

It is time for obesity to go the same route as cigarette smoking. It needs to be recognized and there should be some healthy public discourse and peer pressure against it.
