Cousins has not proven to be worth tagging. I realize Skins fans are desperate for a legit QB but even this is a bit ridiculous for them to support.

And he has only started 24 games.

11-13 as a starter, and coming off the season he just had...and with next to zero running game for offensive support, and down two O-Line starters most of the season...not sure what's hard to understand about possibly tagging him.

Extending him now makes more sense to me. His price tag will go up 5 million per if he has another good season. Right now you could probably get him for Tanihill money

When the options are tagging him and letting him hit free agency, it makes all the sense in the world. It's not like the Skins aren't trying or even wanting to sign him to a long-term contract instead.

I agree, which is why the Skins are trying to do just that. But if Cousins ends up tagged at least they can still try and hammer out an extended contract for several more months.

I realize the Skins are not in a great position with their QBs. Not much available on the open market and they do not appear to be in a good position to draft a QB of the future. However I do not think Cousins has proven he is worth tagging or a long term extension that pays him $15M+. I'd let him walk if he thinks he deserves big money. The QB position is way too critical to be hitched to a below average to average QB. Maybe I am wrong and will no problem admitting it later but I do not see him as a legit QB that should be paid with the top tier QBs.

8) Griffin conducted himself in an impressively professional, mature and supportive manner throughout the year, making appreciating his short time with the Skins and seeing it in a positive light easier for fans

Which is the reason why most Skins fans are rooting for Griffin to succeed wherever he ends up.

 He's the best QB potentially available in this free agency. And statistically he was at least top 10 in the league in 2015. How is that not at least worth the transition tag?

You Cow fans are trying too hard.

What is your reasoning for this? What about his game have you seen that shows as something he'll never improve upon or doesn't have?

I would be scared he could be the next Nick Foles myself. Foles had like a 14:1 TD/INT ratio two years ago. Once he got in the starting lineup that year---he was the MVP of the NFL. He fell down to earth hard. There has been similar situations in history where a QB got on a hot streak and it was proven to be just a fluke. Cousins could be the next Commanders franchise QB or he could just as easily be a headache for whichever team decides to invest in him . This is why I would be hesitant to invest and I assume this is why the Skins are hesitant as well. Based on his position, he should be tagged, the Skins would be best off getting him to agree to a 2 year deal though paying him top 10 money but only for a short time(similar to the Foles deal).

That's a valid reason. The league has seen the likes of Foles, Cassell, and Kolb impress with one season and ended up disappointments. Personally, I think he'll prove to be a good QB, but not a great one. Which if McCloughan does what he's indicated, which is fix the defensive personnel, should mean we'll be a consistent contender. But the possibility Kirk reverts back to a turnover machine is possible.

Best news I've heard recently is they may tag him with the transition tag. Let the free agent market dictate his value and we can just match the offer he accepts.

Exactly. And how many other QBs have we seen with 1 solid year get big contracts and then pretty much suck.

This morning NFLN reported the Skins want to pay Cousins $15.5M per but he is holding out for $19M per. Again if it were me I let him walk.

Yea right, even if he ends up in Big D.

You Skins fans are so full of it.

No regrets about mortgaging the future and giving up a boatload of draft picks and not a ONE of you even thinks about it and now you're rooting for him. :lmao2:

This stuff cant even be made up :lmao:

So I just thought of a scenario.

John Elway falls in love with Kirk Cousins and signs him to a lucrative deal that the Skins can't match. The Skins do receive two average draft picks in exchange but they are left without a quarterback on their roster.

The best case scenario is that a team feels the need to make Cousins the highest paid QB in the league, the Skins match the offer because they don't have a quarterback and are stuck with the contract.

Long shot but I can hope for a laugh that hard in the offseason :D

Well, one thing is for certain, nothing will bother ONE Skins fan. They'll move on and wish Kirk success wherever he ends up . . . :lmao2:
