But nothing has been proved yet ..... all that has been proved is a guy can graze the bottom if he is intentionally trying to hit it.

Hell ...... every QB in the league could peg a fan in the head with the ball if they tried to ..... should the seats be pushed back in case one of them wants to do it?

The whole argument is ridiculous and was caused by a guy trying to get famous to get on a roster.

:hammer:

That is why the league did not come out and swing the hammer that Norm/ESPN/Sirius and et al anticipated. This entire sensationalistic derived controversy was dumb, the league actions corroborates this. However, some will not be able to move on even if we go the entire season without a single punt hitting the video board.

You're completely ignoring the fact that the height of the "fence" has proven to cause other problems.

When has it proven that? The guy hit it on purpose. Like I said before ..... any QB in the league could peg a fan with the Ball if he tried ...... shall we move them back?

It is the LEAGUES responsibility since they bought off on the height and Jerruh even raised it over the minimum. So its THEIR problem.

There was no way that the league was going to eat **** on this one. Not after Jones came out and said how closely he had worked with the league on the board placement and overall stadium construction.

This will all go before a review board in the off-season and it will be raised before next season with Jones fighting and scratching the whole way. Too bad there's all this controversy over a video board and it's distraction from the unbelievably cool new digs.

Even if he was aiming for the board, that does nothing to counter Joe Buck saying the second kick was high enough but off to the side.

Well, what you consider whining is what I consider presenting an argument. Sorry if you don't agree.

I don't see how this is relevant as it wouldn't cause a redoing of a down.

For clarification purposes:

Here's the official text of the new rule.

1. If a ball in play strikes a video board, guide wire, sky cam, or any other object, the ball will be dead immediately, and the down will be replayed at the previous spot.

2. If there is not an on-field ruling that the ball struck an object, the Replay Assistant is empowered to initiate a booth review, including if the event occurs prior to the two-minute warning. If, prior to the two-minute warning, no booth review is initiated by the Replay Assistant, a coach's challenge is permitted under the customary procedures for such a challenge.

3. In the event the down is replayed: (a) The game clock will be reset to the time remaining when the snap occurred. (b) All penalties will be disregarded, except for personal fouls which will be administered prior to replaying the down.

Glad to see the NFL lose on something.

I do not think the kick should either ..... when the ball hits the ref is it replayed?

Carl Banks just made a very valid point. He said that there are indoor practice facilities that have lower ceilings. I wonder how many punters are hitting the top of their practice facilities?

This entire thing is a joke and the punch line is not on Jerry.

So you're saying that he's so biased that he would flat-out lie about it? Calling him biased for offering an opinion you don't agree with on the team is one thing, calling him biased for relating an observation you don't want to hear is another. Like him or not, the guy gets paid to translate what he sees into what we hear. Personally, I think he's annoying as all hell and should stick to baseball but that's not going to stop me from taking note of his observations from what is most likely one of the best seats in the house.

And you're opinion wasn't predetermined before this thread? Please don't act as though I am so dense on the issue that there is no reason in partaking in the discussion. Like all issues, we've all got our sides and rarely, if ever, is anyone swayed from their stance. My stance right now is that the board is a potential problem and it will take a lot more than weak anecdotes and distantly attached analogies to sway that opinion.

Personally, I think I've been pretty open minded on the issue. Going back months when people were ridiculed for even suggesting that it was possible to touch the board, I can remember a few posts where I pretty much cemented myself dead center on the issue saying I wouldn't be shocked if it did happen. Pretty much the wait and see approach.

Since then, the board has been hit and the argument for many has gone from "not possible" to "possible but it isn't practical" and finally to "screw it, other stadiums are faulty as well".

My entire gripe and reason I am in favor of it moving is simple. Accepting the possibility of replaying a down when it could be prevented is ridiculous. Crappy punt or not, it hit the board. Was it on purpose? Who knows. I know his second punt had some good distance on it and if the broadcaster watching the game in person says it had the height, why shouldn't anyone believe it?
