Thank you. Keep in mind, even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time.
I didn't really follow the cowboys in the 60's as I was way to young and never having lived in Texas, none of my extended family were really cowboys fans.
This thread did make me look at the wining percentages by decades, and the only thing I can think of is that Jerry wants to stay away from the 1980's after he bought the team in 1989, as it looks to be their worst decade.
This goes back to numerous others posts by other members where it seems Jerry is content to be around the "rim". I don't think Jerry wants to have a bad decade, and that as long as the team can have a winning percentage and stays relative in the season why people are talking about the team, he is happy.
I think this is why we have the highest paid NFL QB in the league. The guy is good enough to keep this team relative.
If I'm being honest with myself, I think Jimmy Johnson masked the issues with Jerry Jones personality and management style. Within every NFL football organization I think (don't know for a fact) that you need a guy or guys who are the catalyst for propelling a team to winning titles. I think the biggest issue facing the cowboys is that after Jimmy kind of stole the spotlight, Jerry is never going out of his way to get someone better than he is running the team.
This is EXACTLY why when he hired Shoddy, I knew NOTHING was going to really change this decade, particularly after the Green Bay blowout in the playoffs at home in 2023. The irony is people still talk the team because of his head defensive coach, and who pulled the strings to get him? This is the cowboys leadership since the late 90's has always leaves me scratching my head.
