Next year

Next year another year of your life will have passed. For some, it could be the last year of their lives.
This year with the Cowboys was a disappointment; last year was a disappointment. The past ten years have brought nothing but disappointment. The past thirty years have allowed you to see the fall of an empire while the rich got richer and the fans paid for it.
And now, Dak and Jerry want you to "wait till next year" again.
And next year will be a disappointment, too.
Nothing has changed, nothing will change.
But Dak, Jerry, and Stephen want you to wait till next year, again.
And at the end of next year, you will once again be asked,
Wait till next year.
And you will once again be flooded with "MVP" chants, and "This is our year!" cries every time the Cowboys beat up on a cellar dwellers. Once again the Cowboys will accept the Super Bowl trophy early, only to have to give it back at the end.
Welcome to next year.
Get a hobby. Cowboys aren't for sissies

Correction - Welcome to the next 30 years because the Jones family will be in charge and they will follow Jerry's playbook.

This current fan base will never see another DAL SB in their lifetime.

There are more important things in life than the NfL or Cowboys. When I was younger I use to make the Cowboys my life. I can’t and haven’t for the last years. It’s not worth losing health over.

Only because we have seen first hand what the team can do.

It blows me away that fans 30 years of age or younger really have never seen the Dallas Cowboys win 2 post season games in one season.

I mean the Steelers have at least two superbowl wins this century.

That said, you know you're getting old when you start living in the past.

Not going to say I'm losing interest, I just don't have any optimism left and know for whatever reason, sooner or later in the season, Jerry is going to play the circus ringleader and blow it. We were lucky enough that he hired Jimmy as his first hire at least. My only prayer is that when Jerry is 6' under, Stephen isn't an apple that didn't fall far from the tree (since I've never lived in Texas, no clue what the rest of the family is like, but from what I read here, Stephen sad to say is a chip off the old block).

One thing I have noticed that I never seemed to noticed 20 years ago. I see more Eagles fans in the oppositions stadiums recently. Really wish Jerry would take note of that because it used to be the same when the cowboys played. Times sure have changed.
Really good post.
Especially your comment on the 30 somethings even becoming Cowboys fans.
Ive made similar post comments.
I cant figure out how/why Rusty and the Marathon guy are fans if I'm honest with myself.
Cheers to them for modern day team loyalty while supporting a sucky team I guess.
They've never experienced anything but suckage as fans, smh.
That's pretty darn loyal for the instant gratification microwave society we live in.

Cheers to the thirtysomethings Cowboy fans.
Salud!

Really good post.
Thank you. Keep in mind, even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time.

I didn't really follow the cowboys in the 60's as I was way to young and never having lived in Texas, none of my extended family were really cowboys fans.

This thread did make me look at the wining percentages by decades, and the only thing I can think of is that Jerry wants to stay away from the 1980's after he bought the team in 1989, as it looks to be their worst decade.

This goes back to numerous others posts by other members where it seems Jerry is content to be around the "rim". I don't think Jerry wants to have a bad decade, and that as long as the team can have a winning percentage and stays relative in the season why people are talking about the team, he is happy.

I think this is why we have the highest paid NFL QB in the league. The guy is good enough to keep this team relative.

If I'm being honest with myself, I think Jimmy Johnson masked the issues with Jerry Jones personality and management style. Within every NFL football organization I think (don't know for a fact) that you need a guy or guys who are the catalyst for propelling a team to winning titles. I think the biggest issue facing the cowboys is that after Jimmy kind of stole the spotlight, Jerry is never going out of his way to get someone better than he is running the team.

This is EXACTLY why when he hired Shoddy, I knew NOTHING was going to really change this decade, particularly after the Green Bay blowout in the playoffs at home in 2023. The irony is people still talk the team because of his head defensive coach, and who pulled the strings to get him? This is the cowboys leadership since the late 90's has always leaves me scratching my head.

Jerry somehow managed to manipulate the principle of supply and demand.

That basic principle being that the supplied product would be of good sustained quality and thus ensure continued increasing demand for more.

The problem is, the product is and has been an onfield failure under him yet the supply, demand AND most importantly, the profits, increase every year.

This is the art of selling a failed product.
THIS is THE Jerry Jones marketing masterpiece.

The Dallas Cowboys.

Everyone would be better off if they just accept we are going to mediocre at best until Jerry dies. And that there really won't be much to get excited about until they turn the page on the Dak era and maybe draft a QB in the first round. That would at least be fun to watch. Watch the rest of the league and other sports for that matter.

Next year, I have been saying maybe next year since 2015, so I feel the same pain. Dallas was a legit playoff team in 2007 and 2014. One of my unfavoite sayings is, if some told me that the 1995 season would have been the last time Dallas would be in the NFC championship, I would say your crazy. But it is very true. 30 years of maybe next year is reality.

Just throwing it out there thinking aloud...

Lets face it, to get to the Super Bowl (let alone winning a few playoff games in the same season) and win it (the Super Bowl) takes a team effort, and the guys have to play like a team and do what it takes to win as a team. The margin for error to get to the Super Bowl is so slim for all the teams in the playoffs sometimes it just comes down to luck (although you have to prepare by work to earn that luck sometimes).

I think that the team is built around the "team culture"

When I saw Jimmy Johnson and Michael Irvin at the the recent Miami playoff bowl win, you could see the passion for the game in them 30 years later even though they don't play anymore. You could see that same passion in many of the players that Jimmy had playing for him win Dallas was winning those Super Bowls.

The question becomes where has that passion gone over the years?

I'm guessing after Jimmy left the team, that passion lingered for a couple years more, but over time with new coaches and new players, Jerry's 3 ring circus act has really drained the team of any culture because Jerry sets the team culture by his own leadership and management style.

Before this season even started we had the Parson's soap opera. Now I'm already being blasted with Pickens stories and Jerry. Jerry loves making the news, and I think over time, it doesn't keeps the team focused. No doubt Jerry loves setting the teams culture because he can't shut his mouth up.

stopped believing we will sniff a NFC championship game anytime soon after witnessing the debacle against GB in '23..

This season sucked for me for one major thing - I was half my age, a young man of 30, the last time Dallas played in the NFCCG.

The first half of my life saw 8 super bowls and 14 NFCCG appearances. The 2nd half of my life? A 5 and 13 playoff record. Dallas has missed the playoffs 16 times in the last 30 years. SIXTEEN TIMES.......... let that sink in. Do the Stans realize that Dak is about to finish his 10 season and Dallas has now missed the playoffs 5 times during his career? (no, it's not all his fault, so don't start with your BS)

And people wonder why some of us old time fans are jaded and have lost interest.
Ah...the good old days.

I got Dallas players card sheets in Honeycomb cereal boxes, I have sunglasses with stars on the front. A deck of playing cards. A locker room super bowl T shirt. Oh and I have a giant plastic Cowboys water bottle never used!

These days I can barely finish the game on TV.

"Lives in your head rent free"

What is the point of that saying? I usually ignore your posts because you are just trying to provoke a response. You apparently think you need to insult others to make you feel more like a man. But this one I had to respond to.
Losers have come up with this saying, as if it is an insult. It's their only bragging right.
I have a lot of things on my mind, so I guess there's a lot living in my head "rent free"
The same can't be said for you.
The way you follow me around just to try and pick an argument between your trips to the mailbox to get your welfare check suggests that I live in your head rent free.
You really need to see a therapist.

Then why do you go so far out of your way defending them?

These days I can barely finish the game on TV.
Back in the days when I gave a damn I would have never missed a game, day or night. But I stopped watching the night games about 15 years ago. 1 - because I hate the night games, 2 - because I simply didn't care enough any longer to give them my time.

So that means I missed all 6 night games this season, and only watched about half of the remaining 11. The owner doesn't care about the product on the field so why should the fans invest any of their time?

Want to know what I don't miss at all? It's the days when I was much younger and I let the losses bother me. Watching the games (when I decide to actually watch) are a lot less stressful when you aren't emotionally invested. I'm full blown apathetic towards that loser franchise.

classic.

what's the point? 100% of everything you post is always about Dak. you have no other posts. Dak Dak Dak Dak Dak. you are Daksessed. He lives in your head Rent Free. all you think about all day and night is posting something about Dak. Dak Dak Dak Dak.
if you think Dak is the only issue with this team, then you truly, honestly, don't understand football. your are nothing but TMZ.

cute try though...follow you around. more like you are the village clown. there is nobody on this board who has any tiny shred of respect for a drunk like you. seriously. sad part is you take yourself so seriously while everyone is laughing at you.

btw, I am seeing 5 therapists....I need more. yeah...go ahead with your insults. I love it.
perhaps you like to join me in some of my sessions? its a looney I tell ya...

and I am peed off too, because my welfare check is late. I had to find cigarettes off the ground and finish smoking them. the plastic part is a bit hard to inhale, but you get used to it after a while. give you a buzz.

come on dude...you want to throw more insults. go ahead. I am not the insecure one here.

stop responding to my comments. I dare you.
