Let me be the first to project the needs for next years draft.

WR - With this being Williams last year unless someone steps up this might be a top need next year
CB - This is likely a huge need next year
SS - Probably still a big need next year
OG - Leary likely leaves and a replacement will be needed.
QB - still too early to go all in but if Dak isn't the answer may need to take another shot
DE - If Gregory or Dlaw have another slip will need another even with Tapper
OT - depending on Chaz Green might be a big need or might just need depth
LB - By then we should know whether or not Jaylon Smith will play. If not this becomes a huge need.

Positions resolved by this years FA and draft
RB and DT

I would have preferred to leave this draft with less question marks but it is always possible that LB, DE, and with some luck SS have been resolved.

We may be more active in FA next year depending on what kind of contract we can reach with Free and maybe Martin. I would prefer to sign them early to long term deals and have a lot of cap space to sign some FA's.

Haven't looked at any players in next years draft other then the top RBs which is out of the question now and Desmond King who decided to return to school. I really like King so as of right now he is my pick for our 1st round pick.

I like King too and CB is going to be a huge need so my mock consists of

1. Desmond King

The interesting thing is RB is one of the major strengths of next year's draft, particularly at the top. Fournette, Cook, McCaffrey, Chubb, Perine, Gallman.

QB is the single biggest need in next years draft...again. Followed by WR and maybe defensive end depending on the progression of Gregory/Lawrence.

I don't think we draft a QB next year unless one falls that we just cant pass on. maybe in 2018 draft if Dak isnt developing.

That was my argument for not taking Zeke this year. We picked RB in a year when there were so many available and even better options the following year that they weren't in demand. Maybe we can get a Jalen Ramsey next year. NOT!

If we tank again next year due to a Romo injury I'll be royally pissed if we don't move up to get DeShaun Watson.

For the right QB no price is too high. Watson is that good, just my opinion.

It's not about the price being too high. It is about that player having enough time as the man with the first contract to determine if you want to give him the second contract. Don't want to end up with a Broncos/Osweiler situation.

If we are in the position to move up for Watson, it'll be because of another Romo injury, in which case we'll have plenty of time with Watson as the man. How many more season ending injuries will it take?

If Romo has a career ending injury this year then yes, it is time to go all in on a QB unless by some miracle Zak Prescott proves to be the answer.

You really think drafting a QB next year is smart. I mean the top QB in the draft who is suppose to be more ready won't show much more by next year

I like the thought process, but it's too early to know anything about next year. Way too soon...

The single biggest hole in the organization that hasn't been (adequately) addressed is the future beyond Romo. If there is a QB available that we grade as a franchise player, you take him. I think Watson will be incredible in the NFL.

But then I advocated for this in the 2016 draft, and that didn't pan out.

That's is a strong argument but I guess they went with the whole bird in hand approach. Hard to blame them, alot can happen between now and next year. They saw a player they knew they could get and they loved him so next year wasn't a consideration.
