Our fans get in their feelings and don't be thinking right. Probably the same ones that said we had NO CHANCE against Tom and the bucs!

You can't build a roster that is complete enough just through the draft. You have to use FA which includes bringing in a key player or two. Instead we largely ignore FA other than to just backfill depth.
So does every good front office. Pittsburgh, Green Bay, KC, Cincinnati, etc. None of them do big FA splashes.

So... the "extremely aggressive" premise kinda doesn't wash for me.
Given an extra minute of thought, surely Machota is hoping for "extremely aggressive"... makes his job so much easier when the Joneses give you lots to write about.

To all those saying that we can't get rid of Dak, we could have literally drafted Jalen Hurts. We need to be aggressive and make bold moves to win, that's just how it is now. The days of having a team like the Patriots is over. KC is really the only team like that anymore and they have Mahomes who will likely end up going down as the best QB ever if he holds up and one of if not the best ever pass catching TEs. So unless you happen to luck out with that you have to be aggressive to compete.

Neither Pittsburgh or GB are in the playoffs and KC and Cincinnati have two of the best QBs in the league who will probably be the Brady and Manning for the foreseeable future. Therefore unless you have one of these generational QBs you need to be aggressive.

The Eagles aren't in the SB because of Jalen Hurts, they are in the Super Bowl because they make good draft choices + they go all in on FA with studs. They are a win every 4 years team now. Similar strategy to the Marlins in MLB for a few years there. There are certainly lean times but it is nice to win a championship every few years. I'd definitely prefer that to what we are dealing with.

Starting players the eagles have added to their roster via FA or Trade = AJ Brown, Darrius Slay, Hassan Reddick, CJ Gardner Johnson, James Bradbury, Javon Hargrove, Kyzir White (+ Suh, Linval Joseph, and Robert Quinn as depth)

Cowboys= Jayron Kearse, Jonathan Hankins, Anthony Barr, and Malik Hooker (TY Hilton, Jason Peters, and Carlos Watkins the only other notable names)

1 of those lists isn’t like the other…

You might want to take a look at Cinci’s roster…not only did they sign 3 new starting O-lineman this year, but most of their defense came from outside of the organization as well- DJ Reader, Trey Hendrickson, Von Bell, Jessie Bates, Mike Hilton, Eli Apple. They did a good job of drafting offensive skill position players and then built the majority of the rest of their team through free agency.

The chiefs recognized a weakness and were aggressive in upgrading the left side of their o-line to protect Mahomes. They traded a 1st+ for Orlando Brown Jr and then signed Joe Thuney to a 5 year $80M deal. They also acquired their starting edge players in Frank Clark and Carlos Dunlap. And while I’m not touting any as great, they added JuJu, MVS, and Toney along with rookie Sky Moore when they had to replace Tyreek.

Long story short- Both teams added impact players to help them build their rosters. Who have the Cowboys added from outside the organization that has had an impact? Jayron Kearse is it. Could have been Cooper too but…

I remember when we used to make splashy moves and go all in and people got pissed because we got stuck with crap contracts and ruined our cap and now we are back at the point where people are sick of drafting well. Funny how the circle goes.
The problem is we over value our own talent and over pay for guys and still be stuck with crap contracts lol. Its the same thing we are just lucky to be drafting better.

Too many people think “being aggressive in FA“ means signing big names. The best GMs find FAs that best suit their needs. And not at bargain basement prices. You usually get what you pay for- even in NFL free agency.

Several teams have overpaid players. Matt Stafford makes about what Dak does. As of 2022 Dak is the 9th highest paid QB. And while he certainly deserves criticism for his play at times this year, his contract is NOT why this team hasn’t done anything in FA.
It is a HUGE contributing factor

Teams that have made at least Conf championships with ”non-elite” QBs making big money:
  • Tennessee Titans with Ryan Tannehill at QB and his 4 yr $120 mil contract (signed a year before Dak signed his) went to an AFC championship game in 2019.
  • LA Rams win the SB with Matthew Stafford, who has a similar deal to Dak. He’s definitely not elite.
  • in 2015, the broncos surrounded a noodle armed Peyton Manning (at the end of his career) who had a huge amount of cap space, with enough other weapons to win a SB. To be clear, Peyton Manning is an all time great, and an elite of the elite. BUT- If you watched Peyton that year, he was not that good.
It can be done. By really good front offices.

i'm not sure i'd like their aggressive pursuits anymore than i do their finds at the goodwill.
I prefer aggressive because at least it shows they are all in. The goodwill moves is just them thinking they are smarter than everyone else, which we know they are not.

Jerrah gave 150 million to dak ,

so , thats a different approach .

And made the third string QB the offensive coordinator .

Again ... Jerrah with another approach .
To be fair, people who were good players don't always make a good coach.
You don't even have to have a NFL player background to be a good coach.
Did Mike McDaniel ever play professional football?
