Jaelen Strong scares me more than Agholor, I'am glad the Eagles reached for him.

The one thing I'll say in defense of the Agholor pick is that Chip likely knows the player well, having come from the Pac 10. It's hard to fault a guy for erring on the side of familiarity. Worked for Jimmy all those years ago.

None of these four players have yet to play a single down in the NFL.
You cannot grade them.

Sure we can.
Picks that would have made me sick.

5. Skins DL Leonard Williams USC
9. Gnats RB Todd Gurley UGA
20. Beagles OLB Bud Dupree UK or CB Byron Jones UCONN

Nice. Well-put.

But...

Unlike a lot of people, I don't consider taking guards high to be "reaching." A good guard can have a tremendous impact on your OL, and your OL has a tremendous impact on your team as a whole. So I gotta bash the Skins for passing on a guy most people consider the best player in the draft, especially considering the state of their defense, but I can't say anything bad about the guy they did take.

A lot of the above applies to the Giants. Plus, I probably just like Flowers more than most people around here. He is a beastly run blocker. Knee injury may scare me away from Gurley at #10.

Philly, I dunno. I know zip about the player, but they needed a WR badly. If I'm Chipper, though, I'm taking Ray or Dupree.

I'd have preferred Brown and I'm leery of players that become first-rounders based on freaky combine numbers, but Walker has convinced me the guy can play. I tend to be a benefit of the doubt, wait and see kind of critic, so I'll get back to you on Jones about six games in.

I love Agholor so I was crying in my beer to see him go to Philly. I think he's going to be a great WR in the NFL and in that offense, if they have a QB, he's going to produce for them. You add his ST abilities and I think that's the best pick by NFCE teams. JMO

folks felt that way when we drafted Frederick.

we "reached" at the bottom of the 1st round when we probably had nothing but 2nd round grades on players...

The skins just reached in the top 5 of the draft

Eh, calling it a "reach" is a bit of a reach

Scherff was mocked anywhere from 5-12 depending on whose mock you were looking at.

The bigger thing is the impact of having BS on the o-line, as compared to LW on the d-line

Scherff will be starting over someone named Compton/Moses/Long

Meanwhile LW would be in a rotation with pot roast, Paea, Francios, and Hatcher. That could be a beastly front, however the o-line besides Trent Williams is in shambles

By all accounts Sherf wasn't getting past the Giants at 9. Good pick in a vacuum, but certainly the Leonard Williams factor can add questions to making that pick

Which team do you feel had the better 1st round.

Hard to compare in a way. but Commanders and Giants both needing Defense more IMO, both go OL. I seen them listed at OT and OG, high picks if indeed they are OG.

I like Jones for the Cowboys over a bit of a reach the Eagles took at WR.

So in my possibly slightly biased opinion, we did better in the 1st round and with the later pick of all 4 teams.
We got value at a later pick.

As a life long Cowboys fan I loved Philadelphia and New York's picks. Hated the Commanders pick. Scherff is gonna be a beast for 12 yrs

I liked the Giants move. There were better players there but they needed OL badly and Flowers, while being a reach at 9, is a good prospect. He has nice intangibles to go along with rare athleticism for a 330 pound guy.
I also liked the Cowboys pick. I really thought he'd be gone by then, and he should have been... but in the late first, I thought he was a terrific pick. Safety/CB with great size and rare athleticism for *any* size guy. His love for the game and penchant for always being ahead of the playbook will serve him well in the secondary. Truly a terrific move and they didn't even have to trade up for him.
I wasn't crazy about the Commanders pick. 5th overall is just too high for a guy that likely will end up at guard because he has short arms and struggles with pass protection. I do really like his attitude and his run blocking is good... but there were much better players to be had at 5... the least of which isn't Leonard Williams.
Philly is the least favorite pick of mine. They took a second round WR in the first while there were many better players staring them in the face.

So, probably like this:

1A - Dallas - Jones Grade A
1B - Giants - Flowers Grade A
3 - Commanders - Scherff Grade B (good player at G, bad decision)
4 - Philly - Agholor Grade D

I agree. He fits that offense perfectly
