With the recent news that Brett Favre will be signing with the Vikings I was interested in gauging how good you guys thought the Vikings would be this year. I guess the easiest way to do it is to list your top 5 NFC teams. I for one feel the Vikings immediately become superbowl contenders now that they have a decent QB. My list is as follows

1.Giants
2.Vikings
3.Cowboys
4. Arizona
5. Philly

To prevent people from just posting (which you can if you really want to obviously) their NFC top 5, I would also like to know how you guys feel Dallas matches up with the Vikings.

I think the Giants are very overrated at this point. I'd have to put Philly and maybe Dallas above New York right now. However, I think as the season goes by, Dallas will not only be a playoff contender, but will be in the thick of things in the NFC East during December.

I think the Vikings will have a very good team on paper, but I'd have to wait and see if that translates to the field. I agree that Brett Favre is better than any QB they have, but how will the team deal with all his interceptions?

I don't see how you can put the Cowboys in the top 3.... Let's be realistic here.

I think it all comes down to how the team approaches December. If they overcome their December problems and have a good record against that beast of a schedule, that'll give them a lot of momentum going into the playoffs.

As far as Top 3, I think the Giants, Eagles, Vikings, Falcons, Cardinals, Cowboys are all somewhere up there.

I don't see Farve making them #2

It's not just Favre, it's the threat Favre offers when tied in with Adrian Peterson in the backfield. That is what makes them so dangerous. Favre can still throw the ball. (even if many are INTs) That is the weight that brings balance to the Vikings offense that they didn't have before.

:lmao2: You got me.

I mean that all 6 of those teams have the potential to be somewhere in the top 3, so it's not a stretch to say that any 3 of those 6 teams are in the top 3.

An NFC top 5 is tough to do, for me anyway. I really don't see 5 teams that, as of now, look better than the others.

Teams I would definately leave out of this list are: Bears, Lions, Rams, 49ers, Seahawks, Bucs, Skins.

That leaves the Cards, Falcons, Panthers, Cowboys, Packers, Vikings, Saints, Giants, and Eagles.

I could probably cut the Packers from this list and maybe even the Saints and Cards (their defenses concern me), but after that, I think it's all pretty close between the remaining 6 teams.

You should replace Cowboys with Carolina. we are not top five In my honest opinion.

Carolina isnt showing much either. They have a good running game, but there wide receivers leave a lot to be desired and how is there TE?

1. Philly - Based off last year, I think they have kept a strong team and made good strides going forward.

2 Giants- A lot depends on Eli this year, but their receivers are not proving because of the loss of Plax and Armani. Boss is still a threat as are there RB's

3. Cowboys- TE threat, and a RB corp with all Rb's showing their talents. Question marks on the WR"s, but a defense that could be more aggresive this year.

4. Cardinals - We have to determine if last year was a fluke.

5. Seattle- I think Hasselbeck has a good year and keeps them alive offensively. Ive always viewed him as a average qb, but he is a winner at times.

Notables Vikings (AP has to make a season) Saints (everything rests on Payton to turn it around) GB (everyone wants Rogers to lead that team back to the playoffs, do they have enough offensive power to do it)

On paper and potential, this might be ok. But based on last year, which really means nothing in this free agency generation, as teams cna do a complete 180 now.

Favre to some can jump them to contenders, but he also can drop them out of the playoffs with his INT's and gunslinger style, as we all seen so often. And just because Peterson is in the backfield means nothing. He has had very good RB's in his days at GB.

Cowboys, they have to show me and prove to me they are a top 5 team. I'm tired of paper champions as going into last year. But I have the faith and confidence that this year they do show us what all the hype was about last year. I have too...that is why I am a fan....to hope and change  ...errrr, wait, that doesn't work......to hope and trust.

So even though Dallas needs to prove to me there a top 5, but no other team seems to jump out there either, here are my 5:

Giants [still very solid], Eagles [they still manage to be there every year lately], Cardinals [they are the NFC champs], Cowboys [for lack of any other strong team], Panthers [I think they are more solid than most people think]

It's tough for me to gauge at this point, but here goes

Giants (top 4 D, top 8 O)
Panthers(top 8 D, top 8 O) best team concept
Eagles (top 4 D, top 8 O)
Cardinals (top 8 D, top 4 O)

Commanders (top 4 D, average O)
Cowboys (top 8 D, top 8 O) possibly top 4 D in which case they would be the 5th team
Vikings (top 8 D, top 4 O) Favre distraction could hurt them or he could give them a good threat along with AP
Falcons

Saints
Niners
Packers
Seahawks
Bears
Rams
Bucs
Lions

I gave more wait to D than to Offense. I think you could legitimately put all 4 NFC E teams in the top 5 simply due to the defenses. The Vikings and Bears have to overcome their QB's prima dona complexes, and if they do, then maybe they will compete.

The surprise team may very well be the Seahawks, but they have to step back up to where they were a couple years ago.

All things are quiet in Dallas. Nothing but low key football going on.

People are going to remember real quick just how talented our team is when this sleeping Giant awakes in about another month.
