just cut him already, im tired of hearing the whole youth movement group, but in this case, Ware is nether going to make a difference or be the player we hope he returns to. Since Dallas isnt going anywhere this season, make all the cuts you need to make and thsi season start getting all players experience.

Sucks but if that helps the team get better, thats what you have to do. I dont care what they do, just make the team better, if its a case of addition by subtraction or a total blow up it better translate to the field. Would hate to give up Ware and still suck.

DeMarcus Ware, DE, Dallas Cowboys

Once one of the game's most fearsome pass rushers, Ware's production has slipped as injuries have taken their toll. Ware posed a career-low six sacks and completely disappeared down the stretch during another December flop in Dallas.

The Cowboys are still a better defense with Ware on the edge, but a team edging into salary-cap hell might find it hard to hold on to an aging pass rusher due $12.25 million next season. Ware is not open to a pay cut, but would restructure his current deal, which has two years and $26 million remaining.

Chance he's cut loose: 50 percent

Ware will have 13-15 sacks next year and people will be retracting statements....

But would that be worth the trade off vs what we might do by plugging more guys in the defense. One guy isn't what we need. We need to find young guys playing under the rookie contract numbers.

I'm not quite that brutal but still think we need to get rid of inflated contracts to get better at multiple positions.

Ware is one of the rare players that has been paid very well and earned almost every dollar. He is now at the point in his contract that these add on years carry a very high base salary that made his agent look good when he signed. There is no real basis for 12.75m salary and he is due ZERO guaranteed dollars, so a pay cut is really only about saving face. If he really wants to stay in Dallas he will re-do his deal to the 6-8m the market now dictates. Peppers, Suggs and Will Smith all face the same dilemma and all 4 could easily get cut, depressing the market even further.

i would venture to say 80 to 90 percent of this board loved what ware has done for this team...as i have.

but really..if he refuses to take a pay cut knowing his age, wear and tear....that's spencer and ratliff stuff going on there.

and the reason he has so much wear and tear is because he gave 110 % his time here.

Selvie got 7 sacks last year for 730k and Hatcher got 11 for 2m. Even at 13-15 sacks, 12.75m is way too much to pay.

i'm thinking selvie will be even better next year under rod...

Well if he is unwilling to do anything but restructure his contract he is forcing their hand.

I see both sides but I really feel based on all this info I am reading here that he is done as a Cowboy.

Hopefully, saying he's unwilling to take a pay cut and remaining unwilling when presented with the facts of the situation will prove to be two different things.

Demarcus Ware doesn't have the leverage in this situation, the team does.

Even with a pay cut, Ware stands to make a lot more money with the Cowboys than he'll get on the open market, IMO.

And does he want to force the issue and risk moving or breaking up his family for the next 1-2 years?

Ware is coming off two down seasons where the injuries have mounted.

He isn't a full-time player anymore. Ware needs to be in a heavy rotation and that means accepting a pay cut.

Peace bro. Made this mistake too many times to slip up again.

SN: He'll go to New England, put up 15 sacks and get a ring.

He played most of last season with a bad left shoulder that required surgery in January.

I'm not sure if George Selvie is truly a starter or a reserve, but I like having him on the roster.

We need better starters and depth on the defensive line.

Who does he think he is? Living off his past success.

Ware, you are barely hanging on now. You no longer provide us a good pass rush, you barely provide a decent 1.

Take the pay cut, you know you can't carry the Defense. We are better off without Ware than with him, and his cap eating contract .

Is there a way to restructure his deal to make it light on the cap?

no. Ware is basically just asking Dallas to extend his contract (and most certainly take dead money cap hit when he he gets released or retires) and give Dallas some Salary Cap flexibility this year. If he was still playing at high level and Dallas was true contender....you probably make that deal. Unfortunately Ware is in serious decline and Dallas looks more likely to draft in top 10 next year than field a contending team this year.

Same goes For Romo....take a pay cut.

What's wrong with these dudes?? They claim they want a championship, but want to eat up half the cap space, when they both know they can't carry the team for opposing sides, let alone even be a great threat anymore.

They need help, but want to eat up cap space. They both know they are being overpaid, this is why they may walk away losers when it's all said and done.

Big contracts, but no hardware

If they did a full restructure they would actually save a million more against the cap this year vs cutting him. But they would still be paying him 12.75m for 2014 and would have to eat more money in 2015 and beyond. They will probably go with the full restructure without a pay cut to try to save face, but it is the worst business move. He just isn't worth 12-13m a year anymore.

it was stupid to think he could be a de in a 4-3 at his age with all the wear and tear on his body..

he could be a great 3rd down pass rusher for the next two years with a hefty pay cut.

he is nowhere near worth the money he is going to get if we keep him.

he's an old lion.

age catches up with everybody.

Any idea of the percentage of base snaps the defense played this year?

Didn't they play around 60-70% of their snaps in nickel in 2012?

His neck issues have always seemed to have come at the point of contact at the QB/ball carrier.

His quad this year could've happened even if he were standing up at olb IMO.
