For the second time this week, the Seattle Seahawks have landed a free agent running back. NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the team reached an agreement Friday night with former Cowboys running back Julius Jones.

Details of the contract's length and terms are still unclear. Both the Jones camp and the Seahawks are being tight lipped due to the sensitivity of the deal. This week, the Seahawks have signed former Lions running back T.J. Duckett and have now landed Jones, leaving less room in the backfield and on the team's salary cap for former NFL MVP Shaun Alexander and/or Seahawks running back Maurice Morris.

But at the very least it seems Shaun Alexander's days are numbered. Hopefully this also means one less team taking a RB early on.

There's also still K Davis who is a FA.

I'd bet K Davis gets picked up, if only for his ST play. Who knows, maybe we end up re-signing him, if Davis is still around in FA after another week or two.

Barely two years after Seattle Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander won the league MVP award, the team has agreed to terms with one of the players who was expected prior to the 2005 season to contend for that prize.

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Seahawks have struck a deal with tailback Julius Jones.

The move immediately calls into question Alexander's status with the team. Two weeks ago, there were rumors at the Scouting Combine that Alexander could be released. Since then, the Seahawks have signed T.J. Duckett.

After rushing for 819 yards in only eight games during his rookie year of 2004, big things were expected of Jones in 2005. But he didn't even crack 1,000 yards in his second season.

Alexander is signed through 2013, and is due to earn a salary in excess of $5.5 million in 2008.

Also at risk is running back is Maurice Morris, who is due to earn a salary of $1 million in 2oo8, the final year of his current deal.

Maybe the philosophy this year is to re-sign our own guys and maximize our draft picks . . . . unless you can get your hands on a guy like Fitz, of course. This is such a poor FA class in general.
