I'm saying that to get great receivers, they have to be drafted early. Rarely do elite receivers slip through the cracks. (Colston) Our 3rd and 4th receivers could not be #1 receivers, and Crayton is already going to be in his
4th year. I would even say that he would be a weak #2. Hurd has potential, but I can build the Sears Tower with my potential, doesn't mean it will ever happen.

Brian Leonard ran a 4.49.

I like Hoyte, but I wouldn't be opposed to drafting this guy if he went in the 3rd, bulking him up and letting him play some old school FB.

W/ his versatility, I don't think teams envision utilizing him as a traditional FB much.

Also, if the 4.49 time is official, i don't think he makes it out of the top half of the 2nd.

What did he run?

I also read that he showed up smaller than expected.

There's a lso the experience factor...

I wouldn't be surprised if he fell out of he first at this point.

Rice ran 4.54. He may well fall to the 2nd, but there will be GMs kicking themselves for passing on him in due time.

I wouldn't group WR or CB with OL as far as our recent draft history. Not even close, IMO.

Besides Goodrich, what recent first day WR or CB draft picks have we missed on? I can't think of any. We have seen some production from some of our late round CB's and WR's. Now OL on the other hand...

I wasn't thinking about draft status, more along the lines of success with the percentage of picks. The main point being, it is rather obvious for a team that has been trying to replace Irvin for so freakin' long, that it is not easy to find WR's anywhere.

James Marten BC 4.99 (amazing for 6-8)

that's great speed for a guy considered a mauler, he was pretty tough looking at the Senior Bowl

Not spectacular, but not bad either. I think the main concern is that he looked rail thin and some GMs may be wondering if he'll be able to get off the line cleanly enough.

His stock definitely seems to be falling at this point. I was never all that high on this kid to begin w/, but some team may get pretty good value if they can get him in the middle of the 2nd.

Has Bowe run yet?

yep, he's not playing FB, being 225 and running that time, he's gonna tell teams that he wants to play HB

Yes, I think Bowe did run, but I missed it. My judement on Rice is from personal observation. It's possible that I'm wrong (first time for everything and all). We'll see how he pans out. I'd say his greatest attribute is that when the ball is in the air, he always has the mentality that it's HIS ball. I like that attitude. It sort of recalls old #88 here.

That's a fair comparison. Neither were underwear olympic studs. They just excel at their position.

Credit goes to FinMan on footballsfuture.com, but it seems the Cowboys have talked to 3 different players that are known right now.

Aaron Ross, CB, Texas
Aundrae Allison, WR, East Carolina

And the last one was a bit of a shocker to me, but it was Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan State.

Stanton shouldn't be a shocker to you, the Boys interviewed him at the Senior Bowl too...

This may be an incomplete list, I'm working from memory here, but these are the players that I've read the Boys have talked to at the Combine:

Drew Stanton, QB, Michigan State... looks like a 2nd rounder right now...
Aundrae Allison, WR, East Carolina... a likely 3rd or 4th round prospect...
Samson Satele, C/OG, Hawaii... 2nd, maybe 3rd round for him...
Gaines Adams, DE/OLB, Clemson... a high 1st rounder, likely top 10 pick...
Charles Johnson, DE/OLB, Georgia... late 1st, early 2nd round type...
LaMarr Woodley, DE/OLB, Michigan... another 2nd or 3rd rounder...
Dan Bazuin, DE/OLB, Central Michigan... and yet another 2nd or 3rd rounder...
Jamaal Anderson, DE/OLB, Arkansas... an early 1st rounder...
Aaron Ross, CB, Texas... late 1st, early 2nd round...

Earlier, at the Senior Bowl, the Boys talked with Stanton and Bazuin, and five others that I can remember:

Syvelle Newton, QB/WR, South Carolina... a conversion project from QB, might end up going undrafted...
Paul Williams, WR, Fresno State... a late 3rd/early 4th round prospect...
Lorenzo Booker, RB, Florida State... an early second day pick...
Herbert Taylor, OT, TCU... likely a 5th or 6th rounder...
John Wendling, S, Wyoming... late 2nd/ early 3rd roud type...

I get the nagging feeling I'm missing one or two players that the Boys showed an interest in at the Senior Bowl... but just working off that list, the Boys could go for CB Ross in the first, C/OG Satele in the second, DE/OLB Bazuin in the third, WR Williams in the fourth, RB Booker in the fifth and OT Taylor in the sixth (I have a hunch the Boys are looking at him as a possible conversion project to center)...

I'd have NO problems with the picks in the first 4 rounds, none at all...

Anyway, if any of y'all know which players I might have left off this list, by all means let me know about it... I like to keep track of the players the Boys show interest in, if only because it gives me some idea of what POSITIONS the team is focusing on... this time around, there's 5 DE/OLB tweeners, 3 WR prospects and 2 DBs... so far, I've been a little surprised at how few offensive linemen the Boys have been talking to...

You missed the question.

What picks did WE use to acquire our top 4 WR's?

Glenn a 6.

Crayton a 7.

That's it.

You think you have to take great WR's early.

I wonder if you have to have GREAT WR's to win the Super Bowl?

I wouldn't say the Pats, Steelers, TB or the Ravens had them.

Very, very important position to the Madden crowd though.

All over Grubbs at the Sr. Bowl which makes sense when we cut Rivera. Even though we never draft OL in one Jerry is known to change his mind on a dime. Weakest spot on our OL and I'm convinced Jerry will do anything to make sure Romo succeeds after starving at the position for years.

Also, Jerry is pissed that he's not getting more immediate starters/production from 1-4 picks and FA.

Grubbs a day one starter.

John Wendling, S/CB Wyoming
Tyrone Moss RB Miami
Herbert Taylor OT TCU
Syvelle Newton WR/FS/QB South Carolina
Paul Williams WR Fresno St
Daniel Francis CB LSU
Dan Bazuin from CMU
Brian Robison DE/OLB Texas

Other guys we talked to at all star games.

i knew that Calvin Johnson was as fast as they can get for a WR but still everytime i see him run he leaves me in awe. the guy is 6-5 240 and he runs a 4.35 in his 40... INCREDIBLE!!! Not to mention his 48 inch vertical and he has very good hands as well. i have no doubt that Johnson is a future HOF IF of course he stays healthy
