I'm not sure why, but when I read your posts, this is what I picture you looking like:burmafrd;1560197 said:You have the lawyers and the waanabe's who just cannot keep from trying to protect and find excuses for the thugs of society. Who cares what lawyers think?
By the way- the NFL has had its own investigators for DECADES. AT least since the 60s. I am suprised at the IGNORANCE of our lawyers here.
I thought IGNORANCE was no defense?
One more time: the NFL is not the messed up legal system of the US. Its a corporation that has as its primary interest insuring its profitability. Vick is a THREAT to that profitability. So they will take action.
If you lawyers don't like it - WHO CARES?

If you ever see just a red x instead of a pic, right click on the red x and choose properties and copy the URL into another browser. It will open the pic.

But? What about the courts? He's not guilty yet...?
j/k
Things will work out...one way or the other!

Goodell's basically saying, "I don't know what happened, but while I investigate it myself, you sit out. I'm going to err on the side of punishing you."
He strikes me as very arrogant. "The criminal justice system will determine if you're guilty, but it's MY responsibility to determine if you violated my policies."
Who's looking out for the players against the NFL? I'm not a fan of Bryant Gumbel, but his comments re: Gene Upshaw seem more and more valid every day.

Who or what says he has to be careful about the way he does things? Seems to me he's got pretty much free reign to do whatever he wants, under the guise of, "protecting the NFL." What's the check on him?Stautner;1560311 said:Goodell's job is to protect the NFL - period. HE has to be careful how he does things, but his first priority is to find the best way within his power to protect the league - including its image.
Chocolate Lab;1560362 said:Well, the post that got burma attacked was accurate. (BTW, I thought the personal attacks weren't allowed here?)
But he's right. Why is it so hard to separate the U.S. justice system from the NFL? These owners have BILLIONS invested. Advertisers pay a fortune to be associated with the league and the players. The league isn't going to stand by and let its image be ruined by a few bad apples.
And if someone thinks that's so horribly unfair, they can go play in Canada, or go get a regular job.
Bottom line, playing in the NFL isn't a right. It's a privilege. And avoiding being indicted by a federal grand jury isn't too much to ask.
Because when the NFL investigates and basically finds him guilty (i.e., by forcing him out of the league), then it prejudices any criminal trial he may have.Chocolate Lab;1560362 said:Well, the post that got burma attacked was accurate. (BTW, I thought the personal attacks weren't allowed here?)

Can the NFL do it? You betcha. No one questions that.
Should the NFL do it? I really don't think so. Is it so hard to just let the judicial system play itself out? If the criminal sanctions are insufficient punishment, in the Commissioner's eyes, then go after him. Fine him. Cut him. Tell him his grandmother smells like urine. Whatever. Just let the government do it's job without screwing with the whole process.
Is that so hard to comprehend?
