Love the way the team is shaping up. 12-5, 12-5 2nd round this year.

If you hate mediocrity than you should bouncing off the walls of the success lately.

You doom and gloomers are hilarious!!
We went 13 and 3 with a 2nd round exit as well. Regular season records mean zero if 2nd round of the playoffs is the ceiling.

Not a great pick but hardly a disaster. This is now a very solid TE room imho.

Schoonmaker's age is actually an advantage imho. He is a better athlete than the 2 we have. He's rangy and his RAC is excellent. Played lots of productive snaps against the best in the NCAA's.

Schultz was good but a complete liability in the run game.

NFL.com??? Oh ok then it must be a great pick. So Torrence is sitting there. They need a G badly. Torrence is a stud. They draft a backup TE. That make sense to you?
Maybe they didn't think there was much of a drop-off from Torrence to a guard they can get in this round or the fourth and felt there was between Schoonmaker and other TEs available.

Schoonmaker is a good player. He blocks well, catches well, and is a better athlete than people think.

I kind of wanted Trenton Simpson… but this pick makes perfect sense. He will be better than Shultz as a blocker right away and better at everything else by the end of his rookie season.
They really didn't like Torrence at all, which is surprising. Agree, Schoon is a good player, but he was probably more of a late 3rd rd prospect. Thought they were going to take Sanders.

The disadvantage we have here is none of us know how McClay and the team scouts have rated any of these players. We all have pet cats that seem like no brainers but nothing is obvious at this stage forward. Last year, many saw Tyler Smith as a reach for the first round.

It takes 2-3 years to judge a draft.
Guys I wasnt high on like Achane and Washington still not picked.

This is not McClay. They let the head coach make his pick. McCarthy whined about not getting Mayer yesterday, and they gave him the final say. I’m certain they do this with coaches. Not just input, but authority. It’s ridiculous as the coaches are not full time scouts.
You may be right, but if McCarthy thinks a rookie TE is going to be a difference maker in his offense, more power to him.
