See the bold part above and this is an easy question to answer.

Because Jerry IS NOT THE COACH...he's the owner. And, if the "owner" does not get his way, why has he not just fired the coaches after the first year if he did not get what he wanted, yet retained Roy?

And, who is "everyone" that you are talking about besides the "owner"?

We've heard both Jerry and Parcells talk about getting Roy closer to the line. Roy has mentioned it in interviews as have other players.

That Jerry doesn't get his way is laughable -- why exactly do you think he has gone from strong hands in Jimmy and BP to guys he can extert more control over in Switzer, Campo, and Phillips? Because he likes to dictate things.

As to cutting Roy, only idiots think Roy deserves that fate or that we'd be better off without him.

Well, that ends this discussion! Thanks for clearing all that up for me, abersonc!

That damn Jerry, always fouling Roy's play up!

So, to make sure I got all this stright...it's not the scheme? That Jerry always get's his way? Roy is not motivated? The coaches suck?

It's a wonder that Wade Phillips is still the coach because he did not do what Jerry wanted last year!

Damn Jerry...(I think)...

Carry on...

I don't think Roy is awful. You won't find a thread where I said that.

I do think that criticism of his play is warranted. He's been disappointing recently and frankly, the scheme excuses get old yet some refuse to look any deeper than that.

I understand where you're coming from.

I don't see any problem with the fact Wade likes to come with the front seven; actually its the front four mostly and five some. Lots of coaches are conservative. The more pressure with the front rushers the more likely the others can defend and/or intercept the pass. Nothing new there.

I understand that but I understand where you're coming from. You're saying in addition to that, they don't bring Roy much because he's not very good at it. I'd say that's true about 10% worth and 90% the fact neither safety blitzes.

So both parties arguments are right. Just one is more weighty than the other.

I believe we will see more DBs blitzing this year but I still don't think it will be much more than in the past. If you're defending well playing conservatively, which I think we will do, then you're not going to take a lot more risks unless you need the ball back, yada.

Oh, and I'm in favor of anything making the team better. I don't see Romo et al being affected much by having another QB in the mix. Simms is better than Johnson IMO. I don't think he will come available though.

Most 3-4 schemes do since the front 3 and the 2 OLBs generally rush.

ee where this argument is going and I have no stomach for an argument about the semantics of the word blitz.

I personally call sending 5 a blitz. In a 4-3 scheme, sending 5 is a blitz and the effect on coverages is just about the same.

On a side note, I wonder how good of a blitzer Thomas is. i would like to see more blitzing from our ILB especially since they like to shade backs outside the center to deal with our OLB.

Simms can think he's a #1 all he wants. Romo has shown more in his worst games (think Buffalo) than Simms in his best.

If he signs here, he knows he's just a injury backup. Even his ego wouldn't place him before TR.

Good point. I hope he do sign here. I also like Richard Bartel too, he has alot of potential but, Chris Simms has exprience and pretty good mobility with a nice arm that has improved since the Texas Longhorns days.

Have not heard a thing.

But if the Cowboys are interested and Simms show interest, sweet.

The biggest obstacle is that Simms seems to have a big ego and I don't see him willing to be a No. 2 forever behind a Romo.
So I don't see that happening, though I would love it if it did.

I would think Simms would be interested in being Romo's backup for a year or two. He would get the opportunity to play for a very good organization, continue to learn his craft under a gifted QB, and possibly get a SB ring in the process -- not bad. Beats going to a poor team, gettting beat up as a starter, and then looking for work again with a weaker resume.

In fact, I would expect any player to want to play for the Cowboys this year -- how many get a real chance at a SB ring.

I don't think Simms replaces Brad Johnson unless simms is released before training camp. We won't just plug the young and fairly inexperienced Simms in as the backup without training camp to get acclimated with our offense.

If he gets cut later in camp or preseason, I think Simms would replace Bartel who would end up on the practice squad again.

Simms won't be cut until the last possible second and, as much as I would like him to challenge Brad as the backup, I think that might be too late to catch on with another team as anything more than a 3rd stringer.

I don't do semantics battles Fuzzy. You know that. I was just saying what is obvious. In a 3-4 there are more people regularly in position to pressure the QB. I didn't say Ware or Ellis never drop into coverage. They do.

I think they are trying to force a trade, but that is useless until a team has an injury and before the Camps open that is a long shot.
