Unreal signings between Kelly and Walker. Al Davis has officially lost it.

I am FLOORED he would get that kind of money. I am even more amazed at Art doing it AGAIN. These teams that are overpaying are just unbelievable. Where is all of the old talk of how important the cap is.

Are owners that sure that there is soon to be no cap?

Wow, just wow! That much on a player with some knee issues.

If we would have paid him that much, I would have been livid.

Wow! Big numbers!

I liked Javon Walker, but I wouldn't have wanted to spend that.

I did read that Al Davis was over-paying this off-season by design. According to something I saw, he knows the Raiders are a bit of a laughingstock, so he wants everyone to stand up and notice that he wll pay big for good players. I kind of hope it works for them in a way...

Cap room is an issue. The offseason is not over. Jerry signed Flozell. The starting lineup, minus J. Jones (no big loss) is back intact and Dallas will add 2 first round picks to the roster.

Actually, we'll probably add four good players (two No. 1s, a player in the second and player in the third) to the roster - at a minimum.

If we hit on those picks (as we should) that will be four young players to add to the bevy of talent we already have on this team.

There is much to be excited about next year. :)

cant blame Walker for taking it...but I definitely dont blame Jones for looking elsewhere either...thats just a terrible deal, jsut like the rest of the deals the Raiders and some other teams have given out

We are talking about the guy who hired a high school student to coach an NFL team.....

Al Davis must have some serious health condition that makes it think hes only got a year or tow left. Seriously hes going to have a ton of bad contracts in a couple of years.
Man, I was thinking it but didn't want to say it. :)

I didn't want Walker for half that price, I sure as heck don't want him for double it. I hope Jerry can make something happen with Roy Williams, because we aren't going to solve this need in the draft.

ROTOWORLD:

Raiders agreed to terms with Javon Walker on a six-year, $55 million contract, with $16 million guaranteed. He'll make $27 million in the first three years.

Al Davis has lost his mind. Even Walker's old coach Mike Shanahan said the receiver eventually needed microfracture surgery on his chronically sore knee. No one else was bidding for Walker, and many teams publicly denounced any interest. Walker gained 57 yards on seven catches in his last five games last year, and barely seemed able to run. Perhaps he'll recover, but Walker isn't worth Randy Moss money even when healthy. Like Moss' deal with Oakland, this one could end ugly.

Is Valley Ranch on vacation this week? I don't remember a FA period where not 1 visit was scheduled. I guess it's onto the draft.
Great, see you then. We'll enjoy your silence.

Hoped we'd get Walker if he's healthy for cheap 1 year deal to give us another weapon opposite TO. Walker would take place of Glenn who I don't believe will contribute anything but also allow rookie WR I hoped we take in draft to develop w/o lot of pressure in his first year.

Money Walker got is ridiculous & certainly don't blame am for signing with them. Obviously Davis being forced pay big bucks to get any FAs to play for Raiders.

Am I worried about our offense in 08, you better believe it. Start praying that TO doesn't get hurt & that Stanbach plays really well winning #2 WR job against overwhelming odds. Also hope that Glenn makes "comeback player of the year" or that the WR we must draft early comes on really fast a la Randy Moss.

Here's the problem with your thinking. we had those players last year and still got beat in the first round again.if we bring the same team back this coming season. we are going to get beat again.

There's nothing to suggest that's even remotely true. Super Bowl championship teams almost always win because they improved from within, not because they made some big splash in free agency -- and certainly not early in free agency, when guys are getting overpaid left and right.

In fact, of the past seven Super Bowl champions, NONE of them signed a free agent within the first 10 days of free agency who made any real impact whatsoever.

The 2007 Giants (who went 8-8 and lost in the first round in the previous season) didn't sign ANY free agents until March 27, and the biggest free agent they signed all offseason was Kawika Mitchell -- for less than $1 million per season.

The 2006 Colts signed exactly one unrestricted free agent all offseason (Adam Vinatieri), and that happened 11 days into free agency.

The 2005 Steelers, 2004 Patriots and 2003 Patriots didn't sign a single starter during free agency.

The 2002 Buccaneers didn't sign anyone significant until March 22 -- three weeks into free agency (and that was Michael Pittman, who has never even rushed for 1,000 yards).

The 2001 Patriots didn't sign anyone significant until March 16 -- two weeks into free agency (when they got Mike Vrabel).

The last Super Bowl champion who had signed any signficant free agent within the first 10 days of free agency was the 2000 Ravens, who signed Shannon Sharpe on the fifth day of free agency.
