NFL Network's Mike Mayock On D-Mac...

I like the way he came to this conclusion based on watching three whole tapes of DMac.

Hopefully 20 teams in front of Dallas think the same thing.

How about the top 21? ;)

Seriously, I can see how someone might believe six or seven players are better pro prospects than McFadden... But not 20.

Couldn't you say the same thing about reggie bush two years ago?

you saved me a post

no he didn't.

no way McFadden falls. (I said the same thing about Randy Moss and Steven Jackson). I can hear Mickey already "if he's so good how come 21 other teams passed on him?"

...tonight on the NFL Network, Mike Mayock listed his Top 10 with Matt Ryan listed as #1.

In a surprise, McFadden wasn't in his top 10 and when asked about it, Mayock said he's just started watching the Junior's tapes and he's watched 3 of McFadden's. He said he wasn't as impressed as he expected to be and that although McFadden does have a great burst and speed, he said right now he "wouldn't touch him in the top 20."

Very interesting comments.

You must have missed the off-camera shot of Jerry Jones slipping him a $10,000 and muttering "Thanks, Mike." ;) :D

Maybe I will be in the minority, but Mayock doesn't seems like a guy who says something for shock value.

I wont agree with Mayock about McFadden not being top 10 pick, but from 3-4 games I have seen of McFadden, I don't see the Adrian Peterson top 10 back in him. I just don't see the wiggle like Adrian Has, even being that much size and straight up style.

But He has had tremendous games, that makes me thing he has a chance to be special. Overall, he would be more of a risk than Adrian. Adrian was risk only due to his injury history. Without that, he was a bonafide top 2-3 pick.

But one thing I disagree with Mayock is that, him saying Mendenhall is the best back in this draft. Because I see the same issue with Mendenhall that I see in McFadden. Heck no way, he is even top 15 pick. He might turn out to be great pro, and better than McFadden, but not based on College career comparison of both.

This is what I was going to say.

Two years ago, Bush was the #1 can't miss player in that drfat.

Two years later, questions are being raised about whether he can even be a #1 running back.

Not saying Mayock is right, just saying that it's not impossible.

This is why Mayock is probably making 5 figures talking about prospects and not making 6-7 figures in the NFL.

Hunter (Dallas, Tx): Do you think Darren Mcfadden will ever be an "every down back" in the NFL? At 6'2" 205lbs he's pretty skinny. Obviously he's going to be a weapon, but will he be a weapon akin to Reggie Bush or to Adrian Peterson. Will he ever average close to 20 carries a game?

Matt Williamson: I can't see him getting 20 carries per game in the NFL week in and week out. So, he is more like Bush than Peterson. Dynamic weapon who would probably be best used on a team with a bigger back like Barber in Dallas for example.

Then again the NFL hired Matt Millen from the broadcast booth.

Ya, i'd take Mayock over Millen, Cerrato and probably several others. I just think DMac not being in his top 20 is suspect at best.

i dont know that he will fall out of the top 20. that may be jerry pulling some strings hahah. But i have a feeling his timed speed will bring him down a notch draft wise if he runs a 4.40 or slower again. His whole game is really speed if youve watched the past few seasons of ark football.

You know, if he watched some of the games that McFadden played in while injured, esp. with badly bruised ribs, I could see him coming close to drawing this conclusion (although it is an exaggeration).

There were times this season that McFadden didn't look like the same runner he was last year (speed and mobilitywise) and had fumble issues because of the injuries, which, I believe, included a concussion. I think it you take a microcosm of his season like that, you could come to the conclusion that he's not as good as everyone says.

Very shocking comments coming from Mayock, but hey.....I respect Mayock's insight and his analysis is usually pretty good. Let's face it - if someone made these same comments about Blair Thomas in 1990 before the draft, they'd be flamed too.

Steven Jackson wasn't supposed to fall either but it happens to someone every year.

Can you imagine if someone on ESPN, back in 1990 before the draft, said they thought Emmitt Smith would rush for 18,355 yards and 164 TDs?

I don't know why people are being so sensitive to his opinion. It isn't like McFadden is a sure thing. There's certain aspects to his game that are suspect.
