I know many former fans of theirs, who will never come back. I'm talking old school Billy Kilmer, Theismann, Riggins, fans. They were DEEPLY offended by the name changes.

If they want to change the name, just like the Cleveland Browns changed their name to the Baltimore Ravens, and the Houston Oilers changed their name to the Tennessee Titans, that is their business. It doesn't offend me. What does offend me is white-washing history, pretending they were never called what they were. As far as I am concerned, the old team died, and the Commanders are a new expansion team.

Mike Fisher tonight was trying to say Washington has a bad playoff history over the last 20 years in comparison to Dallas. THAT was a terrible argument. We have MAYBE just as bad a history the last 27 years as far as postseason goes' Fish was triggered tonight btw. It was sad watching the guy be rude. Then again, what the heck was I thinkin even watching his live? The guy is the biggest Jerry defender there is. lol
The Commanders don't have a playoff history. They didn't exist until last year, and didn't make the playoffs.

they do have a worse playoff history over the past 20 years than we do

that doesnt mean we're good it proves their ineptness

3 playoff wins since 92...and 1 playoff win in the past 20 years (05 vs the bucs) and also they havent won more than 10 games in a year since 1991

Yup, the important thing is that now everyone can have a warm fuzzy feeling while uttering their new name.

im so grateful a small minority of people and the media have protected us from ourselves……

Perhaps the Jets should change their name to the “Wind Turbines“ to let the kids sleep at night with less anxiety

i can only hope that history will look back at this time and realize the sheer stupidity of it all

Lol.
I think "The Washington Swamp Rats" has a nice ring to it. Fitting too, maybe the powers that be will attend some games so they work even less.

I look at this as good news for the NFL and for our division. Hopefully they can field a decent franchise that's not a National embarrassment and literal cesspool. The more competitive Washington can be, the better the inter-divisional competition will be, which in turn makes the division as a whole tougher. Postseason preparation starts in the regular season as you learn of your seeding. So not to confuse, of course I can't stand any of the other 3 teams, but to be the best you have to stifle them and get past the 1st/2nd round.

I'm also hopeful that those numbnut fans etc. will come up with an even more lame name for the team. Because they didn't command dick.

I don't really see it that way Jumbo (your first sentence). The Cleveland Browns moved their entire franchise to Baltimore. The Houston Oilers moved their entire franchise to Tennessee. Name changes were obvious needs. They became "new teams".

If you go to profootballreference, they don't have Cleveland Browns historical stats associated with the Baltimore Ravens.

The team in Washington, is the same team that has existed for 90+years.

Thank god. That rebrand was one of the most embarassing things.

All the history and culture to refer to, and they chose the most generic name.

And the jerseys are generic trash too. They were better as the Football Team
The best choice would be the Washington Renegades. It’s not far off their original name and it has a much better ring to it.

That'd be kind of a PR nightmare. Guess in comparison not really much when your owner was forced out of the NFL for being a pervert.
According to NFL Network they’re considering changing the name again. The last few years have been really messed up for Washington.
