NFL Referees Have Reportedly Received Notable Instruction

just more bizarre rules to influence outcome of games?
kickoffs dont really matter so it has to be about fg's and I dont see how holder could set ball down on the FO lol.
Kickoffs are already on an object so it’s clearly about field goals

It's always been a rule for fgs. Players apparently have been getting away with it and refs are being warned not to allow it.

I've always wondered why on fields with deep natural grass why kickers never dug with their heal back toward the goal post to lift the turf up a good solid inch....the same way some of us do on a tee box if hitting a long iron or fairway wood. That illegal???

Nice video replays of the kicks, but the placement of the ball does not seem to correspond with where the holder picked up the marker, unless the force of the kick flipped the marker back a bit.

Has anyone ever seen what they're talking about?

I would like to see an example of this.

They have been instructed to make sure every call goes Brady's way, so that his team wins, lol- thats not news, they have been doing that for years

Pretty much.

Brady is good. But he's been the luckiest of all in terms of things going his way in the post-season.

That worries me.

Here's the source of the story with video examples. STILL PICTURES AREN'T ENOUGH! Lol.

Honestly, that looks like a white poker chip they are picking up.

I dont think this is for getting any extra distance or accuracy on kicks, cant see something this small making that much of a difference.

Instead, I think this is being used as a spotter, meaning the holder is using this as a visual reference of where to place the ball down. When you think about it, this could make sense. The holder can focus his sight on the ball and the laces and seeing a white mark with his peripheral vision would still allow him to place it at the right spot becasue some kickers like the spot different either a little forward or a little backward.

I dont know, I never really noticed this before.

With the NFL playoffs set to begin this Saturday, officials have received special instructions for the Wild Card round.

According to Football Zebras, officials have been told to watch for foreign objects being used to assist field goals and extra point attempts.

These "foreign objects" could technically help kickers get extra height on the football. However, it's more likely they're used as spot markers.
"It is likely a marker so that the kicker knows exactly where it will be placed," Football Zebras said. "Doesn't matter whether it elevates the ball, it is a foreign object used to assist the kick, which is unsportsmanlike conduct."

So i wonder if a holder can put the ball on his foot/toe ...would that be a foreign object?....used to do that back as kids.

Brady rule: Can’t hit him high. Can’t hit him low. Can’t hit him in between. Scowling at him gets you a 15 yard penalty. And if you hurt Brady’s feelings you forfeit the game.
unless its the chiefs or Buffalo,Cincy.

Worries me too. This is clearly the worst playoff team he's ever had, the Cowboys should beat them even on the road- but its Brady, so its got me nervous. Nice to get a like from Huner S. Thompson, appreciate it, lol

Smart PR/propaganda move by the NFL. Try to convince fans the NFL is really working every detail for a level playing field.

I coached special teams in high school and I had a kicker who, during his senior year, wanted to scrap using the 1-2 inch block you're allowed to use in HS and kick off the ground to show colleges he could. The problem I had was that the holder needed a target for the spot once there wasn't a block to aim for. So during practice we'd use an object like a quarter or something like that for him to aim for. Never used it in a game, but it worked well for practice.

Wondering if that's what this is about... holders throwing down some small object to use as a target for the hold? I'd be surprised if professional special teams units would need an aid like that, but I guess you never know.
Yeah, seems that it's an advantage for a few kickers. Wouldn't want them to depend on it.

I fully suspect they have heard rumours that somebody has borrowed Mick Foley's Mr. Socko, and will use this smelly creature on an upcoming QB sack in order to try to knock them out (literally).

this game is "soft" rigged. The outcome already has guidance. The only thing that will change it is if we blow them out. PERIOD.

they want the Eagles in the Championship game is my take. Hurts will get every chance next week.
