  • The question now is when, not if, Robert Griffin III's time in Washington will come to an end. The final hurdle for the quarterback's release was passing his exit physical with the team, which Griffin completed without issue, reports NFL Media's Albert Breer. Our Mike Seer hypothesised that Griffin might benefit from the pending change of scenery, and compiled a short list of potential landing spots for the Heisman winner, who hasn't started a game since Dec. 28, 2014. Seer included the Dallas Cowboys on his list of options for the quarterback -- and since Johnny Manziel's off-the-field issues have all but ruled him out as an option for the Cowboys, the rumor mill seems to be gravitating towards the idea that Griffin's next move will be to the Lone Star State. Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News looked into Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' infatuation with RG III, citing a quote from Jones following Washington's 38-31 win over Dallas on Thanksgiving in 2012: "'I was in awe of RGIII and the plays he was making,' Jones said after the game." George also referenced a complimentary quote by Jones from two years ago, in which he continued to praise Griffin even as his performance began to decline with the Commanders: "Well, I'm a fan of RG III," Jones said. "He's got it. He's a driven young man. I'm a big admirer of RG III." Will strong interest from the owner result in Dallas picking up 26-year-old? Only time will tell.

Maybe... maybe not.

If he wants a chance to start in '16 (without it being an injury-substitute start) Houston may be a better choice.

As long as it doesn't prevent us from drafting a QB I'm fine with it
He is not the future though but if he could turn his career around we might could get something for him later
I think we need to draft a QB at 4 no matter what we do about a backup

Dang only 26?Still young.. And if he comes here, he will have the best line in the league.. When he was a starter in DC that line was absolutely horrible. Not to mention coach romo will be on his arse

He would prevent us from drafting a QB at 4. I would bet all of the money in my account on that.

I can understand drafting a QB at 4 if he is going to be active on gameday with a headset on. You don't spend a number four pick on a player who may not be active for two entire seasons. You are also not going to get RGIII to sign for a third string spot.

We will know how serious Dallas is about drafting a QB at four pretty early in free agency.

He also got to sit and watch for a year.

I've got to think he's more educated about the position than at any other point in his career.

I still don't see why he would come here. You can't tell him with any certainty when he might be "the guy". Keep in mind he's already burned one season under the "apprenticeship" of Kirk Cousins.

He doesn't have to be active to learn
He gets a couple of training camps and some scout team duty plays the film room and coaching
If Wentz is there and we pass on him I predict we regret it
RGIII is not the future but he might be ok as a backup. No reason you can't draft a QB and he be the third QB, he is still going to learn the game and get reps

Not sure anyone is going to promise him a starting job

Agreed.

That's why I think Houston has a better chance.

But O'Brien may tell him "Hey, we're taking the kid from Penn St. as our starter" so Houston may be off the table too.

Other than Houston... I'm not sure who else would be a good match.

I'm just saying, I don't see the team doubling up with two heavy investments. If RGIII signs to be a backup, he is going to be the highest priced backup in the league...you don't pay him that and spend a four on QB when you are stuck with Romo for at least two seasons due to his contract.

Maybe it would be a good idea to double up but Jerry still thinks we can win now.

You, me, the organization hasn't the answer on that......

It could be RG3
It could be pick #4
NONE of us know that answer & quite frankly neither does anyone named Jones

I don't think so either but we can't even tell him when he might be a starter. Maybe I'm wrong and RG is already thinking he's a backup. But I'd be surprised.

If Romo announced that this was his last year then I think he would come here.

I don't even think he does yet. I am very confident in saying the team has no intention on spending a four on QB "no matter what" as of right now. That could change if they really fall in love with a guy. It may really come down to Garrett. If he is adamant on getting a QB in there to groom...I think we do it. If he doesn't have a preference, I think Jerry tries to get a premier player to help us win now.

I agree as well. If he can compete for a job and even get low end starter money, why would he sign here?

Only reason is that Jerry works his magic and his family talks him into it.

I gotta think he wants to play and will have options. It will take one of Jerry's all time best sell jobs to convince Griffin to come sit behind Romo.
