No problem with Robert Griffin coming here if he signs for vet's minimum.

I don't know how I'd feel about this. If we didn't have the #4 pick in the draft I'd likely be ecstatic. RG3 is a guy with maturity issues but a ton of talent. I want to give him the benefit of the doubt for the mess that is the Commanders but he probably also deserves his share of the blame. Manziel, on the other hand, I never thought would've been a good QB in the NFL anyway even if he was Tim Tebow off the field. I find it hard to believe that defenses figured out RG3 and he now sucks considering how special he looked as a rookie. He's still young and it would be great if we could revive his career. That being said, betting on reviving RG3's career is a huge gamble, and it might be even less of a gamble than betting that Wentz/Goff/Lynch can be our future QB. They could have as much upside as RG3, they're all younger, and none of them seem to have the maturity issues. It'll be expensive spending a #4 overall pick, but when the future of the franchise is on the line, you can't be cheap. The real question is, who will be our best chance at being the Cowboys' QB for the 10+ years after Romo retires: RG3, Wentz/Lynch/Goff, some other veteran, or some other drafted QB in later rounds and/or future years?

Denver needs to resign Osweiler and not play with fire. I don't think RGIII could beat out Osweiler if he went there.

I think Denver is a long shot, but if Osweiler proves too expensive I think Kubiak might consider Griffin. Denver has several players they need to worry about paying.

I think Houston is his only real chance to start and that's just because their QB position is a dumpster fire. They should be doing everything they can to get one of the top 3 QB's in this draft.

I think they will draft one, but the might sign one for right now too.

And the Rams might want a new QB to make a splash in LA and Fisher has had big armed mobile QB's before.

Just a hunch anyway.

He already sat for one year. If he comes to Dallas he will be a backup until romo walks away. Not sure how he would feel about more bench time.

I'm just saying, I don't see the team doubling up with two heavy investments. If RGIII signs to be a backup, he is going to be the highest priced backup in the league...you don't pay him that and spend a four on QB when you are stuck with Romo for at least two seasons due to his contract.

Maybe it would be a good idea to double up but Jerry still thinks we can win now.

I think if RGIII is signed it won't be for huge money. He needs to rebuild his career and I'm sure in his mind he wants a shot at being a starter again. A short term deal with a chance to prove he deserves a shot again is what I would expect. If he wants to be the highest paid backup I probably just look somewhere else. But we shall see

He also got to sit and watch for a year.

I've got to think he's more educated about the position than at any other point in his career.

Football character is worse the Manziel. He is the guy that wouldnt let Shanahan show his bad plays during film study. He turned into a primadonna the instant he got any success

If Griffin signs with the Cowboys:

- Expect a TON of fluff articles from your local press in the beginning
- There will be reports about how impressive his arm strength is early on
- He'll make several throws during mini-camp and training camp that will dazzle spectators and beat writers
- Some of his new teammates will gush over his level of talent
- He will have several runs during practice that will make all the talk about his legs/knees being "shot" seem absolutely laughable
- He'll sign autographs out the wazoo
- He'll probably be the first on the practice field and might be the last one out there as well
- He'll do some charity work early on--that's genuinely just in his DNA, it's not for show
- None of it will end up meaning anything if he looks mediocre-at-best in the preseason, even against backups...because with Griffin, if he's mediocre in the preseason he'll most likely be mediocre in the regular season
- At least one other QB on the roster (other than Romo) will be said to look better than Griffin...it'll be split 50/50 among fans and writers if the other QB really does or not

Well people change.

He was put in a very strange situation in Washington last season, he could have easily made a fuss to the media or someone and made a stir, he did have support in that city and I would be comfortable in assuming most fans supported RGIII over Cousins. I respect that he sat there and took being inactive week after week, even though I am sure he felt like he was the best QB on that roster.

And you think the combination of RGIII and Manziel would save us?

Not save us necessarily.

But like when Jimmy took over and they drafted Steve Walsh and Aikman the first year..

it ended up Aikman and Walsh got traded and we gained a top draft pick for him.

Frankly..there is no crystal ball when it comes to QBs.

We can spend the #4 on a QB but there is no guarantee.

The league is full of guys who just don't meet expectations.

I'd rather go with several options than put all our eggs in one basket like we are doing with Romo.

Both possess mobility and strong arms and would make the OL look even better than Romo does.

Romo's biggest asset now is his playcalling at the line of scrimmage an his one patented spin move when being pressured.

He no longer takes off up field an puts pressure on the defense like a Cam Newton or Kapernick or Seattle's QB does.

Without that running threat and forcing the defense to control their rush to contain the run..

the defense just pins it's ears back and eventually gets to the QB.

I'd like to see our offense change.

I get what you're saying and don't completely disagree, however I don't think adding Manziel and RGIII makes the position a strength like you originally said. I think they have to get at least one dependable arm back there.

People need a reality check here.

The RG3 phenomenon was always hype. Great athlete, but never had NFL QB skills, even before his injury.

No front office with any sense will be offering him a chance at starting or any money. His future NFL career, if it exists, will be by scraping into a training camp as a camp arm and hoping to impress enough to make the team as a third stringer on minimum.

Personally I don't think he has the temperament to keep his head down and work hard. Will more than likely end up trying to be an over hyped star in the CFL or GFL.

You just dropped knowledge on us.

Oh, I remember the QB envy threads from our own fans during his rookie year and all the smug, pompous Commanders fans here telling us he was going to change offenses all around the league.

Will Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III take a pay cut to join the Dallas Cowboys?
http://thelandryhat.com/2016/02/18/heres-rg3-wont-play-cowboys/

In the world of Dallas Cowboys free agency, I like to look at the money. In this era, players are generally getting two deals – the rookie contract and the big money free agent check. Our Cowboys have finally gotten frugal with free agents. Fresh in our memory is owner / GM Jerry Jones issuing monster contracts to snatch players from other teams.

If Jerry wanted you to play for “The Star”, money was never the issue. Personally, I love having an owner with deep pockets to put the best product on the field. We are no longer able to snatch players from other teams like Deion Sanders or Ken Norton Jr. by being the highest bidder. It was the reason why the Cowboys were stuck in salary cap hell for years with dead money on the books.

Along came his son, Stephen Jones, chief operating officer / executive vice president / director of player personnel, but you can think of Stephen as our credit repair agency. Stephen has helped eliminate monster contracts to players that have “a breakout year” during the last year of their contract. Stephen cleans up the books by removing dead money which allows us to be players in free agency. This year, the Cowboys are paying 18 players less than $1 million total in dead money...

Not criticizing you, just the article, but someone may want to fact check before giving articles the green light over at the landry hat

Lol, as Kenny Norton went to San Francisco via a high contract in free agency.
