Curious, the fact that the CBs often blitzed, did that make them LBs too?

jeez, don't start that up again

btw, I don't get why people are so confused as to the interest in Greg Williams, like him being a 4-3 guy, precludes him from working in our 3-4

it's easy for the players to learn, according to Wade, so it should be a piece of cake for a coach w/ years of defensive experience, who knows, they could just be hiring him to help them analyze opponents, and finding their weaknesses to better exploit them

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Cowboys are in discussions with former assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams.

Dallas is reportedly looking at Williams as a defensive coordinator, a job that was already offered to Dom Capers. Capers will probably take on a consultant role instead. If Williams is hired, the Cowboys will either fire incumbent coordinator Brian Stewart, or ask him to take a demotion.

This is my conclusion as well, assuming these reports are correct.

JJ/Wade want to upgrade DC coach asap.

GW here makes no sense and smacks of desperation.

Why the crap not? Why not go and hire one of the best DC's in the game?

square peg, round hole.

too many cooks spoil the broth.

(plus he's no 3-4 guru and capers makes more sense given the staff)

Wow, how crazy would it be to have Capers and Williams on staff? I mean you'd have three of the best defensive coaches in the league (Wade, Dom and Greg) working on game plans every week.

Dallas Cowboys in talks with Gregg Williams

Team may look to add ex-Commanders assistant to defensive staff

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Cowboys' attempt to build an all-star defensive staff has turned to former Commanders defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

According to a source, the Cowboys have talked with Williams about joining Wade Phillips' staff. The team also continues to wait for Dom Capers to decide if he wants to join the Cowboys.

AP
Gregg Williams (right) spent the last four years as the Commanders' defensive coordinator. The Cowboys have replaced Todd Bowles with Dave Campo in the secondary and Kacy Rodgers with ex-Cleveland defensive coordinator Todd Grantham on the defensive line. They have yet to replace linebackers coach Paul Pasqualoni.

Should Capers and Williams become assistants, the Cowboys would have added four coaches with at least defensive coordinator experience (Capers, Williams, Campo and Grantham) and three former head coaches (Capers, Williams and Campo).

Williams spent the last four years as Washington's defensive coordinator but was fired by owner Daniel Snyder after interviewing for the Commanders' head coaching vacancy.

Before Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made offensive coordinator Jason Garrett the highest-paid assistant coach in the league, Williams held the title in Washington, making $2.6 million annually.

Garrett, who turned down chances to become a head coach in Baltimore and Atlanta, is making around $3 million. New offensive line coach Hudson Houck will earn $1 million.

Williams is viewed as one of the NFL's top defensive minds, but he has run a 4-3 scheme. The Cowboys use a 3-4 defense.

He has coached linebackers before, running that group in Tennessee in 1997-98.

THere are obvious similarities on how the 3-4 and 46 attack a defense.

Interior pressure is the biggest thing, seems in WP's 3-4 our guys could only get to the QB off the edge.

The Giants just proved last night the defense wins championships.

The Patriots were supposed to be an offensive juggernaut, and the Giant D made them look very pedestrian.

I commend Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones for look at every available coaching option.
You have a salary cap with the players, but you can spend as much money as you want on coaches. So why not bring in the best teachers available?
