This is a horrible idea. 1) Players with an entire summer off? You think that is a good idea? Young guys need the structure and support of these teams. Unfortunately, idle time is not good for a 26 year old with a lot of money.
2) Vets already dont like training camp. You think longer training camp will somehow result in better play? Players will suffer "Hamstring injuries," to start taking paid days off and chill. Just like when they hold out but they show up and fake injury to not get fined.

Training camp is plenty long.... ah, well, since training camp will be so long, lets add another preseason game back to the schedule.
I think they players will think it is a great idea.

This not a Fan Union. It is the Players Union.

Maybe the Fans need to start a Union.

The owners will trade anything to the players union in exchange for more games and more revenue points.

100% correct. Players Union needs to look like they get a win for the players before they add the 18th game, however it is designed in concert.
That’s a great point and probably very correct.

Less practice, more practice, who cares. Get me 53 physically and mentally tough guys committed to working together to win football games. A coach who knows how to shape that team in a winner. And an owner who eats pretzels and drinks root beer in the owners box and stays away from the football operations.

I like the idea of a longer training camp over ota's. I don't think having ota's and then vacation time between training camp was ever a good idea. That seems like a one step forward, two steps back scenario.
Agreed. If the idea is to trade voluntary OTAs for more mandatory training camp, I'm for that.

If they extend training camp in the summer, then the likely need to move up the bye schedule.

End of OTAs? The NFL Players Association is working to finalize a proposal to overhaul the offseason starting as soon as 2025, eliminating voluntary on-field work in the spring in favor of a longer training camp ramp-up, with players reporting in mid-June to early July, per sources.

I think OTAs are good for rookies or guys not on the team last year to get acclimated. Let coaches assess where they want to focus before camp, etc. However, for everyone else I just don't see the value in it.

As the NFL adds more season games seems like a good idea to evaluate how to better spend the offseason to help the players from wearing down as much.

According to the article I read, the NFLPA is only wanting to shut down "on field activity" during OTA's. The team can still bring players in to get playbooks, and perhaps go over new play installs, etc. I'm sure that is something that will be discussed during negotiations. Technically, the players are not required to show up in the off-season to work in the weight room either. But many have off-season work-out bonuses as part of their contracts, and ultimately the players want to get better to extend their careers. I think the NFLPA will want to limit the offseason time commitments also, but they will have to work out a reasonable compromise for work that is not "on-field activity."

No, it is NOT a good idea to reduce practices even more. NFL football is much sloppier across the board because of reduced practices already enacted. The players are getting worse, not better because of this.
getting worse and getting paid more than ever

Im wasnt giving my opinion as a fan. i dont care if they have no ota or training camp. Play 18 games is all I care about. im talking from management perspective. the union doesnt just decide what they do.

And you think the players will actually like to have less work time? I would have ever guessed that....smh
