NFL's Mike Pereria... Holmes did use the ball as a prop and it was a penalty!!

Everyone knew it should have been a penalty and it sucks it wasn't called but oh well. Arizona still had their shot and the fact of the matter is all their defense had to do was come up with a play in the final 2 minutes and this point wouldn't even be a point of discussion cause there wouldn't have been a Steelers TD to be celebrating anyway.

actually, I believe the Steelers last drive had two poorly called penalties. the ruffing the pasher was complete BS and the ruffing the holder was BS. if it weren't for those, the Steelers wouldn't have stayed alive.

roughing the holder and roughing the passer were both earlier on, they weren't on the last drive.

The roughing the holder was ridiculous though, they NEVER call that, and if you watch the replay he is stumbling over running over a blocker and then stumbles into the holder. But that didnt matter bc they held them to a FG regardless.

where were their excessive celebrations?

Excessive celebrating is subjective...how many high-fives is considered excessive enough to throw the flag. I can understand that and being very cautious in the SuperBowl about calling a subjective penalty in the closing minuets.

However, using the ball as a prop is not open to interpretation or sujectiveness.....You either use the ball as a prop in your celebration or you dont, there is no gray area.

That is why it is totally inexcusable for the head of officiating to say now "we blew the call, sorry".

exactly. I totally agree

I'm 99.99% sure if that were Owens doing that, the call would have been made.

aren't there like 8 officials in a crew? how many does it take to place the ball for the PAT?

BTW, i find it rather convenient that the refs consistently turn the other cheek when it comes to the Steelers.

Pittsburgh is one of the worst teams in the NFL about letting the clock get to 0. Yet, they hardly ever get a delay of game.

I didn't see the Ward slap or punch. I cannot comment on whether it warranted a penalty or even an ejection.

I did see the Harrison play, and that warranted a 15 yd penalty, but not an ejection IMO. He never punched. It was an open hand and he slapped at the Card players chest and then bent him backwards.

83 TE Miller got away with numerous obvious holds throughout the game, as did the RT.

I had no idea you could be called for roughing the holder.

The Roughing the passer penalty on the Cards in the 2nd half was garbage. It was a blown call.

On the play where Ben just escaped intentional grounding, there was a major hold by one of his OT right in front of the official, but NO CALL.

I remember all the SBs since the Raiders beat the Skins, and without a doubt the last two that the Steelers have appeared in have been the worst as far as how they were officiated. Both games were so one sided it was disgusting. Not even the Cheatriots got as many gifts as the Steelers.

I honestly feel that Tagliabue and now Goodell work for Rooney.

Harrison clearly punched that player in the back while he was on one knee on the ground. that deserves an ejection. period.

it isnt a punch if it is an open hand

i just went back and watched it on you tube. it wasnt exactly a punch, it was more of a forearm shiver to the back. and then he stood him up and took him to the ground.

on second thought he should have gotten ejected.

does anyone have footage of Ward's play. I want to see if it should have been a penalty and an ejection.

Then THROW the RULE OUT! It's a football game played just as any other game or not!

Here is the logic - When Romo gets a intentional grounding it could be the play that stops them from making the playoffs but because it's called it does not make let them play in a game where rules can be bent.

Should points change, holding calls change in playoffs? should they change rules for interleague games?

Play with the rules or throw them out.

I agree. I don't buy into the it's-a-big-game-so-let-them-do-whatever-they-want mentality. I also hate the hindsight opinion that if a team "won," it doesn't matter how the game was officiated. Oh yes it does. I don't care what anyone says, lopsided officiating makes a difference. The officials should not determine the outcome of the game. I would feel the same way if the Cowboys benefitted from a crappy call (which would never happen anyway).

You're starting to get into NBA "star system" territory when you decide when to enforce rules and when not to.

And that system has largely ruined the NBA for me and many others.

If it's a foul, you should call it. No matter when it happens.

And neither of those penalities happened on their game winning TD drive so they had absolutely zero bearing on the final 2 minutes of the game when the Zona defense was given plenty of chances to step up and make a play to win the game.

Those penalties happened earlier in the game when the Steelers went up 20-7.

That's fine, I agree with you to some extent.....but the fact is it was a penalty...do you think T.O, Chad Johnson or B.Marshall wouldn't have been called for that?
