Nick Foles Released **merged**

Look, bottom line if the team can get him here for a really cheap, no risk contract sure. Whatever. Have at it in camp. I have no particular love for Moore either.

But I don't think they are going to be able to do that. He has that miracle season under his belt and has been a starter. If his agent is worth a darn he's going to get more money than a no risk vet minimum contract and I personally don't think its worth the money or time. He's just not a good QB - again, in my "opinion."

I'm with you there. If he's looking to get paid, look elsewhere. He's a reclamation at this point, and not someone I'm willing to pay for either.

I would not have a problem with Foles being tried as a backup as long as we're willing to part ways with him if we see it isn't working. One of the things that bothered me with the Weeden experiment was that it was clear what he was in his first preseason here. Dallas chose to ignore that based on what it thought he could be instead of cutting him after the first year and trying to find a decent backup.

Yes, keeping Weeden another year was the biggest mistake of last offseason.

I think they followed that up by trading for and overpaying a washed-up Matt Cassel. And he came in and pressed, not wanting to be the scared 'Checkdown Charlie' that Weeden somehow became during his time here. And, given his lack of arm strength, it only served to make him more prone to throwing interceptions.

That move took this team from bad (Weeden), to worse (Cassel), and cost the team a draft pick and the better part of a $2 million salary to do it. It was following up one mistake by making an even worse one.

Well, let's hope we don't find out who's better this year between Foles and Moore.

What choice is there at this point? Dallas can't afford to go into the 2016 season
without a viable back up just in case Romo goes down quickly..I say sign him 1
year league minimum pretty much got nothing to lose at this point

The fact that Dallas is interested in Foles indicates to me that there are at least some on our staff who think he'd be an attractive acquisition.

Knowing how our front office works with Stephen and Jerry operating on an ultra-frugal basis, I suspect the $$ offer would be a modest one.

Or that Moore isnt an NFL QB.

Nick Foles is considered a starter. (Not in my opinion) but he is considered one.

He won't be a reclamation project. He will start wherever he goes.

I don't know about that. Don't think many gigs are open for staring QBs.

I'd rather see what Dak has over Moore myself. Foles, who cares.

I think Prescott needs a lot of work. And I would expect this team to exhaust every other resource before they ever put him out on the field. Just like they did last year with Moore, a player they now suddenly 'believe in'.

I'll take that bet. Foles isn't getting a starting job anywhere.

Well, if Romo goes down, won't matter who comes in. We are done. Rather see Dak get the reps.

I would too for the long term. But you and I both know how this bunch thinks. It's about this season and this week and they won't do anything for the future until the numbers say they're completely eliminated from contention.

Hope is their best strategy.

Quite frankly we should't even be having this discussion.

Should have addressed this in the first waive of FA.

List all of the places he can realistically sign right now and start. There aren't too many places:

NYG - No, Eagles - No, Cowboys - No, Commanders - No

Lions - No, Packers - No, Vikings - No, Bears - No

Saints - No, Panthers - No, Falcons - No, Bucs - No

Seahawks - No, 49ers - Ehhhh, Rams - Duh, Cards - No

Pats - No, Dolphins - No, Jets - No, Bills - Maybe

Browns - Possibly, Bengals - No, Ravens - No, Steelers - No

Texans - No, Colts - No, Titans - No, Jags - No

Chiefs - No, Raiders - No, Broncos - No, Chargers - No

So by my count there are three teams he could possibly start - 49ers but Chip seems to want to make Kap work, Browns is an obvious choice as they are always looking for a QB but they did bring in RG3 and seem to want to give him a look and then the Bills, but they seem to like Taylor and there are reports they are talking contract extension with him.

So in reality, there might only be one real spot for him to start right away - Cleveland - and even that's a stretch.

It does indeed appear that Cassel was not the answer. However, to be completely fair, we must mention that he did not have the benefit of training camp or the preseason. Backup quarterbacks typically see such little playing time that you certainly want them to have gone through camp and preseason. I'm not saying that Cassel would have been the answer if that had happened, but he certainly would have had a better chance to play well. After Weeden had played so poorly versus the Cardinals in '14, I was screaming for the team to upgrade in the offseason. If we had picked up a backup the quality of Orton or Kitna, I believe this team could have won about half the games when Romo was out. Given how bad the division was, we would have actually been completing for the division title.

Whoever is your backup must go through camp and preseason! If Moore isn't a good enough backup, they need to figure that out quickly and get the best veteran they can find into camp. If Moore actually is sufficient, better get him all the reps and training he needs. Another implosion due to poor QB play would really suck.
