He was picked to upgrade the blocking by the FG kicker. This kid is a lot bigger than Gammatica, and would have probably thrown a better block for Romo.

Nick Folk (Arizona): He was the one who really impressed me, which was a bit of a surprise. Folk was the most accurate, hitting 13 of his 15 field goal attempts. The two he missed were 45-yard attempts. The ball came off his foot quickly and he got really good rise on the ball. He showed a real powerful leg out there.

Mason Crosby (Colorado): He came in considered to be the No. 1 kicker in the country and clearly had the strongest leg. He made a 58-yard kick in Miami, so his success in kicking long field goals isn't tied to the fact that he kicks in the high altitude in Colorado. He was 11 for 15 on the day during the Combine workouts, missing two from 45 yards out that he simply didn't get enough lift on. They were knocked down by a net that is set up for the drill to ensure proper height. Crosby also missed one from 50 yards out and another from 40 yards away.

Justin Medlock (UCLA): He was the smoothest of the three kickers. His overall operation and consistency to the ball was as good as anyone. He's left-footed, and got very quick lift and rise on the ball. But he didn't have the same explosiveness as the first two kickers. Like Crosby, he was 11 for 15 on the day, showing pretty good accuracy. Surprisingly, he may have been the best kickoff guy out there today.

makes you wonder where someone like crayton would go in this draft.

Who says we won't?

I don't expect all 9 draft picks will make this team-- its how this stuff goes.

Again, it's the 6th round-- take a shot.

Sure, but try having a positive one from time to time but anyways,

Why would he not challenge Gramatica? I know enough about him to say he can challenge and obviously Dallas thinks so as well. After all the years of kicking issus you would tend to think trying to find a answer would be a good thing but if it's more important to find our 6th LB then more power to you

Maybe you should know who you are talking to.

First of all, I have two problems with the draft. A project T and a kicker.

I started a thread on how Jerry was a genius. I loved the move down to get a top 1st round pick next year and I think Spencer will be a real force for us. I even liked the idea of moving down a bit in the second but I didn't want to move completely out of it just to get a project.

Either way, we are all Cowboy fans and we all want the best for the team.

Too bad some people can't allow someone to have an opinion without crucifying them for it.

name recognition carrys a lot of weight even if they know nothing else about him - they knew his name and he got some great pre-draft press.

I'm guilty of that. Even Kiper has him listed as his best remaining kicker. I didn't realize Crosby has missed so many FGs.

That's exactly right.

This draft pretty much sucked after the 5th round... hell I'd take some "flyers" too.

How about this Walter Thomas guy? I'd be down with that... I've just been reading about him. Apparently he's got the motor, the body (too much of it though), and the ability. He isn't very smart, however, and he needs someone to slap the donuts out of his hands. Only 13 games experience....but other than that...I like him.

This is what happens every year. People find one or two recognizable names left in the 6th round and then act like Dallas passed on Walter Payton when they're not selected. Not that they know crap about any of the players left, they just heard one of the players names before, therefore he must be the best player.

It will be more of the same in the 7th round. "What? We selected who? I never heard of this guy !!! Worst draft ever !!!! The Cowboys get an F !!!"

So says the god of the boards!

i think a lot of people can and will be - i was surprised we took folk over crosby - cause of name recognition. but instead of WAH'ing around, i started doing some reading and homework.

at this point - why not? if he fixes the kick off problem - it's a great pick.

You guys are so ridiculous....

WE're in the 6th round...do you think a NT or LB or CB is going to beat out our guys? Remember that Parcells was the old fatman that wanted his linemen to be huge, even if they couldn't move, to hold up blockers. Wade Phillips wants guys who can move and slant into gaps. We have all the quality DL men we need for what he runs...relax.

We have scouts and we have a draft board, but because some guys say a certain kicker is the top rated guy, you want to freak because we left him on the board and took someone else...like you know what's what because you read a draft publication.

Hello...others are leaving Crosby on the board as well...does that tell you anything? If we had Folk at the top of our draft board, a board that JJ does not put together, then you should reserve judgment. Guys always say BPA, but then when we don't take names you've read about, you don't like it.

This kid will make the team...Gramatica, even if he is the best kicker from 40 and in sucks at kickoffs...I'm betting we keep this strong-legged kicker for kickoffs at least and develop him into the full time kicker...and that's worse case scenerio...he may just win the whole job in camp.

It's okay to question or lambast JJ when he trades picks, but when the selection is made, trust your scouts, trust your board, trust your coach.

What's ridiculous is selecting a kid you could have signed as a FA. But, we ARE really thin at punter and kicker, so............
